A little story...Wanted to share this story with you guys, and future creators:A little story...1 year ago in Personal More Like This
After getting out of a slump, I wanted to share this story of something I went through a few years back. Bit of a read, but thanks for sticking through it
As you know, Comic-Con is arriving and as I prepare for it, I grow more and more anticipated with anxiety/joy in regards to the re-release of Last Man Standing.
As long, challenging, and mind-opening the creation of LMS was, something really stuck with me.
Before I had created LMS, I wanted to work for WETA Workshop. To those that don't know them, they've created props, designs, sets, costumes, and more for The Lord of the Rings, Avatar, District-9, Elysium, The Hobbit and many more films.
I was obsessed and inspired with them. The creator, Richard Taylor was always a huge inspiration to me. After viewing supplements on the Extended Editions of The Lord of the Rings DVDS, I knew right there: I HAD TO WORK FOR THEM.
So I al

Frequently Asked QuestionsI noticed that the same questions seem to pop up so I thought I'd save myself a couple minutes in the future by answering some of them here. Also if there are any more questions that pop up feel free to ask it here and I'll added it to the questionnaire. Anyways on with it.Frequently Asked Questions5 years ago in Personal More Like This
1. What kind of paper do you use?
I either use the DC supplied art board smooth finish, but since I've started inking my own work with the washes I've been using Canson 14x17 Bristol with the Smooth finish. It comes in a pad which contains 15 pages http://www.amazon.com/Canson-Smooth-Bristol-Pads-sheets/dp/B0013USWEM . I usually rule out the page to 11.5 x 17. I use the extra space on the side to do ink tests and run my brush and washes.
2. What kind of pencil do you use?
I use a .05 staedtler mechanical pencil with an HB lead. http://www.staedtler.com/graphite_925_eng.Staedtler I also use a kneaded eraser http://www.amazon.com/Sanford-Design-Kneaded-Eraser-Large/dp/B00006IFAJ to lightly erase my roughs but it leave
ARTISTS BEWARE! Ad Agency Paying in Exposure"If we had money for this, we'd be going after real artists…who paint on real canvases. Not the digital fake stuff."ARTISTS BEWARE! Ad Agency Paying in Exposure9 months ago in Personal More Like This
When I received the original Email from Roy of a famous New York Advertising Agency asking me to work for 'exposure' for one of his multimillion dollar clients, I was going to just let it go and chalk it up to another day, another non-paying offer in the life of an artist. We get this kind of nonsense all the time. That doesn't make it right but there isn't much we can do to stop this kind of thinking and behavior from the people that wish to use our very specialized set of skills… right?
After considering it for a couple of days, I decided that I didn't have to just accept this. No artist should… ever! You would never ask a Doctor to give you free treatment for good word of mouth. You would never tell a Coffee shop that in lieu of payment, you're going to tell everyone how great the coffee you just bought is.
I decided to reply to Mr. Creativ

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!
In the midst of my studies I decided to put together this special feature. Some of these works are from my most recent forum thread, encouraging people to post their work. Some I found on #Getwatchers - a place I do encourage you to join; it'd be nice to see some new works! Maybe it's just me but the place is becoming less active... Others are from snooping the newest deviations on the front page. Hope you like!

Congratulations. Your prize: free art picture.
The whole "fave the journal"-rule was a scientific experiment. Getting this extra-attention is nice, of course, but I think I'll keep these lotteries small and personal in the future. I don't, understandably, want someone to come in just for the lottery and free art potentiality. But we'll see...
The next sirtiefling-event should be one of them "use your creativity"-contests. So be ready.

The Top Reasons for Manuscript RejectionOne of the things that the literary agency I work for does some weekends out of the year is teach seminars on query writing and the first 5 pages of manuscripts (which, basically just means the first page of the manuscript). The seminars last only a day or two, but aim to help writers improve their queries and start of their books so that they have a better chance of standing out in the ever-growing slush pile. Since I know many members of the literature community here aim to one day be published writers, I thought I would share our sheet of the top reasons for manuscript rejections. Please note: These are in no particular order. The Top Reasons for Manuscript Rejection1 year ago in Literature Features More Like This
Wrong genre Agents have guidelines for specific genres that they like to represent. Just like you and me, they have certain genres they love and certain genres they don't. Sometimes, it's not because of personal preference, but because they don't know the market for some books as well as other agents who are very passionate about

The Inevitability of IndividualityI've been working on this for quite a while and I really hope you guys enjoy the result. I was looking through my favourites and it struck me how images with a similar composition can look so different, particularly of people. The phrase "The inevitability of individuality" came to me, and thus this project was born. Now, posting it, it feels like a piece of artwork in itself but sadly all the images belong to other people (click through and fave!). In any case the point of this art piece is to remind us all that no matter what we do we are uniquely ourselves. There's no point, and no need, to try and be someone else. You're perfect as you are.The Inevitability of Individuality10 months ago in Art Features More Like This

My fellow gamers! What're you waiting for? It's a good year to be a gamer, isn't it? There are so many releases slated for the following months.. it makes NOT burning a hole right through your wallet very difficult. At least for me. Where awesome games are concerned, I have little to no restraint. Probably a good reason as to why I got into game development in the first place. Haha.My fellow gamers! What're you waiting for?2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I'm curious. What game has you waiting with baited breath for its release?
Mine's kind of a toss-up.. there's a lot of really good stuff coming. There are two indie titles in the works that I'm really excited about, for starters. One is called Cube World , being developed by a one-man army that goes by the handle "Wollay". The first thing anyone would likely say upon seeing the game would be "minecraft clone", but the reality is the game seems to have more in common with Diablo and other loot-happy action RPGs. There's less crafting and house-building, and more exploring caves and forests and such

Gesture/pose drawing for beginners!Hey guys!Gesture/pose drawing for beginners!2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I got a lot of emails after the last poll about gesture drawing. So I want to recommend one of the best book about it and a few helpful sites.
There are plenty of publications about body drawing. Some are worse than others. But one definitely amazed me! It is Mastering Drawing the Human Figure From Life, Memory, Imagination by Jack Faragasso. Perfectly explains the proportions and shapes. Friendly for beginners and advanced! I often use it. You can buy it online or look for pdf form.
If you want to try a gesture drawing ( wikipedia: typical situations involve an artist drawing a series of poses taken by a model in a short amount of time, often as little as 30 seconds, or as long as 2 minutes ) - I think there are three useful sites:
They help to catch the correct
the myth about talentMany people are under the assumption many of the high profile artists in the digital art community are mainly good because of talent. This is not completely true(in my opinion). What does make them great is the simple fact of constant and regular practice. But if you still like to cling to the word, then talent is just in other words an ambition and motivation. This word,"talent" has been branded with something that you think is something that can only be inherited and if you dont have it you are doomed to fail. Many people has lost potential careers because of this.the myth about talent1 year ago in Personal More Like This
well folks let me put that myth to rest because i think anyone with ambition and motivation can learn any tool and any skill. And if you are not learning it, it is because you are not working hard enough on it.its simple as that. The practice will open your eyes and you will develop to see things in different ways, once again this has nothing to do with talent. Once your understanding of all the levels of art gets wide
