On dA for 10 yearsI'm happy to have been here for this long.On dA for 10 years2 years ago in Personal More Like This
It doesn't feel that long - but in a few more years I'll have been on this site for half my life. Sheesh!
I've improved so much having an audience to show work to, even if the point of the work wasn't an audience - just having a platform from which I could do anything at all has been really amazing for me over the years.
And then... PMD-e... which has been a really tremendous learning experience for me (and others!), in so many ways. I don't want to turn this journal sappy or anything, but I've been lucky to have met so many people and have gotten the chance to help create a community with its ups and downs.
And... speaking of such...
I'll be making a journal later about the state of PMD-e right now - I know the updates have been sporadic, and this has been for a few reasons. I've been thinking about how to word things for a few days now, and I don't think I've quite gotten it yet.
Anyway, for those of you who've been around since

TIPS AND ADVICEOver the last few weeks I’ve been getting lots of requests for tips and advice. So I thought instead of answering each one I will give an overall guide to what I’ve learnt over the last year using graphite. And some of the things I’m going to say may sound very obvious but I’m trying to cater for artists of all levels so just ignore the bits you already know (I apologise for how long this is).TIPS AND ADVICE2 years ago in Personal More Like This
But before I go on I must point out though, that I am no expert and this is just what I’ve found works for me so may not work for everyone. And I have only really started getting used to using graphite pencils recently, as I had not drawn for 11 years until September 2012. And so I am still learning myself and have only found out what works for me from allot of practising and trial and error. Also I am not going to go into doing skin textures as I’m still learning what works and it’s far too complicated to describe on here.

Stay strong and be happy!! :) :)In life, a lot of people may come and go.Stay strong and be happy!! :) :)2 years ago in Personal More Like This
don't be sad when they're leaving.
don't be sad when they forget about you.
don't be sad when they say good bye.
But be thankful for another hello.
because remember, they were there to teach us lessons.
they have to move on, so do we.
but one thing i know, family and true friends will stay.
they will never forget and we will never be forgotten.
no matter how tough things are, no matter how bad the situation is.
stay strong and be happy!
Have a great day!!
Photograph or Pencil Drawing - you decide...First of all I do not claim to be a 'hyper-realism' artist, I am someone who just enjoys drawing, and if what I draw looks a little like the reference I am using then great - I do not draw a pixel at a time, I make long sweeping pencil strokes, layer over lighter work, erase like crazy and basically have fun. In most cases you can still see pencil strokes, un-blended areas of graphite, and lots of mistakes - but to me that what drawing is all aboutPhotograph or Pencil Drawing - you decide...1 year ago in Art Features More Like This
One of the ways I try to improve my work is to compare what I have drawn with the reference image I used to create it, it can be a fun way of seeing just how close - or how far away from the original you have got - I thought I would share a couple of examples with you.
I find placing the drawn picture next to the photograph, cropping them the same and adjusting the tone, contrast and exposure you can see just how close you can get to the original.

Alleyway IncidentHiya Ryceballs. I left out something on my previous journal, something I kinda wanted to talk about but was a bit scared to... But I have decided that maybe its better to get it off my chest. This is a true story and it happened two weeks ago while I was in Melbourne for Armageddon Expo, it was a sunday night, I had a long day selling artworks and I was back in the hotel room chilling, at around 10pm I got hungry and realised I don't have much to eat, I didn't wanna call room service because I wasn't sure if food is still available that late. So knowing the 24/7 grocery store is just a block away, I decided to head out to buy a cup noodle or something. It was pretty dark outside with a bit of rain as well, much to my annoyance, but I was really really hungry. Now the proper way to get to the grocery store is to walk around the block, OR I can take a shortcut and go through the alleyway.... I tend to always walk around the block as I didn't wanna get mugged, if Batman has taught me anytAlleyway Incident2 years ago in Personal More Like This

Stolen WorkUPDATE:Stolen Work2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Thank you for all the messages, and I hope some of you may have recognised some of the other stolen work in her gallery.
I only had time to report one deviation this morning and when I came to report the others this evening, her gallery seemed to be empty, so I assumed all the work had been removed, until I read some of the messages below. I didn't realise you could hide your gallery like that!
I have now reported all 7 deviations....wouldn't it be nice if dA thought of allowing you to do this on one form, if all the work is in one gallery, rather than filling in so many separate forms!
I did send the girl a note this morning, to give her the chance to explain, in case it was some sort of mistake, but had no reply, she just hid her gallery.
Hopefully dA will do something about this!

Art is my DRUG :)Hello everybodyArt is my DRUG :)2 years ago in Personal More Like This
by far, this is the biggest doodle ive ever done in my life and i think im going to make more big artwork like this later in the future.
it took a lot of time to make it , it has so much marker ink that smells really strong ,a lot of inspirations to create the patterns and also a lot of FUN.......!!!!
i think making arts is all about having fun. it is about making yourself happy.
art is about deliberating yourself to make something that you really like. it is your personal taste, your personal choice.
And now that i have finally found my passion, which is obviously art and i enjoy making it, i finally feel free to say that ART IS MY DRUG.
i hope you guys also find what your passion is, and if you want to do something and you know it is good for you, just do it.
just do it like there's no tomorrow. we don't know what will happen in the future, but we k

How did the introduction of Jazz, Crazes and popular media influence the American populace during the early 1920s?
Brilliant question Silverpoint345, well well well firstly the American public heard the music and was like "HELL NAH THIS AINT MUSIC" cos in the 1920s everyone was kinda boring and didn't do much except for talkin about the weather, then after a while they became more open minded and were like "HELL YEAH THIS IS MY KINDA SH*T" and the
