Auri jerks out of bed for a moment and glances around the her dark bedroom, waiting for her eyes to adjust. She sits up in bed and yawns before she reaches for the light switch on her lamp nearby when she hears a sudden creak of metal outside. The Four freezes for a moment and listens hard.
She hears the creak again only this time it is fainter, sounding off farther down.
Is someone trying to get in? the commander thinks to herself as she gets out of from under the warm covers. Once her bare feet hit the cold metal flooring, she's grateful she had slept in warm clothes. The winters at this base were brutal, the captain had told her and he was right. The Four reaches into her nightstand nearby and picks up her pistol before she pads quietly across the room to her door. She eases it open and glances out. Blue eyes squint into the darkness before she opens the door.
Silence greets the Spartan as she steps out into the dark hallway. She looks left and right before walking forw

The viewport in front of Ponds was painted various hues of red and orange with splashes of bright blue. Around him the handful of Clones fought to control the desent into atmosphere, but Endurance blanched at the thought. Instead she pushed them faster in an uncontrollable pull. Through it all he stayed rooted beside the elderly man in case he turned for aide. No one paid Ponds any heed; he was a ghost. He could give no help besides what little he had already given. So, he was a statue who watched the fading paint turn into looming ground. Strangely he felt no fear. Only one thought went through his mind. He had always expected to die on the battlefield.
"I bet you wish you had left now, son," Admiral Kilian said, stepping away from the console he had been working at.

NicknamesKat stared down at the data on the screen before her. She was completely engrossed in it and didn't notice the man come up behind her. "Hey there, Kitten." Kat rounded on him and glared up at Thom. "Oh come on, why can't I call you that? I heard Carter call you it."Nicknames4 years ago in Sci-Fi More Like This
"That's his nickname for me. You don't get to use it." Kat crossed her arms and continued to glare.
Thom's shoulders slumped and he sat down in the seat beside her. "Fine, I won't call you Kitten." He looked away for a moment and Kat returned to her work. "How about call you Kitty?"
"No." Kat glanced over at him. "Why don't you do something more productive? Work on your aim, or maybe study some strategy?"
"Aw, you trying to tell me I'm not perfect?" Thom slumped a bit, becoming completely relaxed. "You know, why don't we have nicknames? I mean, don't most teams have nicknames?"
"Because we are serious soldiers. We don't have time for nicknames." Kat didn't look away from the screen.
"I think it would be a good team building

It is the 41st millennium. For more than a hundred centuries the Corpse-Emperor has sat immobile on the Golden
ThroneToilet of Earth. He was the master of mankind by the will of his own gigantic ego and is the dead master of a million worlds by the might of "his" inexhaustible armies. He is a rotting carcass writhing with power from the Dark Age of Technology. He is the Carrion Lord of the Imperium for whom a thousand souls are sacrificed every day, so that he may never truly die. (What a bunch of dumb asses do that?)
Yet even in his deathless state, the Corpse-Emperor, idiots see him as eternally vigilant. Mighty battlefleets cross the daemon-infested miasma of the warp, the only route between distant stars, their way lit by the Astronomicon, the psychic manifestation of the dead guy's will. Vast armies give battle in his name on uncounted worlds. Greatest amongst His soldiers are the

afterlifeHe remembered the hunters, being shot, and how the strength had been zapped from him. He'd woken up here and he didn't really know where here was. From the looks of it, it looked like the base they had trained at when he was a kid. He moved across the familiar base and toward the exercise fields.afterlife4 years ago in Sci-Fi More Like This
He didn't find what he expected. Rather than finding trainees doing daily exercise he found a group of Spartans playing catch. He moved toward them and frowned as he realized who they were. The Spartan closest to him was Joshua and the one to his right was Grace. Both of them had died before he'd even reached Onyx.
"So, we're dead?" The other Spartans stopped and turned to Will when he spoke.
"Not so happy to see you here, Will." Joshua moved over. "You need a glove?" He tossed a baseball glove over to Will who caught it. Joshua grinned at him. "You'll get used to it."
"I don't think I understand." Will slipped the glove on and looked around. "Is this what the afterlife, cause it looks a lot l
A Night for Knights: Part 1Recently, I have noticed a renewed interest in the ancient warrior classes from Earth's past. Names like Spartan, Ninja, Pirate, Apache; and Gladiator are now well known. These warrior classes, particularly the Pirates, Spartans and Feudal Japanese fighters have been fairly glorified in recent years through movies, games; and television. All for better or for worse; no matter how far it deviates from the source material.A Night for Knights: Part 14 years ago in General Fiction More Like This
For instance, as any 7 year old American boy who pirates were, you'll likely get a praise of a response. Ask anyone who's seen the 300 who the Spartans were, they'll probably say something along the lines of unstoppable. Ask any young anime or Japan fan who the Samurai and Ninjette were, words like 'invincible', unbeatable; and unique will likely be said.
But I'm not here to down talk pop culture, no no. I love Pirates of the Caribbean, respect Sparta; and find modern practitioners of Ninjustu and Kendo very respectable, well trained; and honorable people.
