The frozen lagoon in front of Breiđamerkurjökull glacier was an amazing place to visit. Endless fields of blue icebergs, some as big as a house, assumed countless forms and triggered everyone's imagination. The soft morning sun colored the mountaintops red, to complement the scene.

The Aurora Borealis, together with the milky way, created this amazing sight.

A Panorama taken at the climax of the pink Alpine glow we were so lucky to have. The combination of the low angle of the sun and the snowy coating (the volcano itself is, of course, black) is another proof that winter is the best time of the year to shoot in Iceland.
Örćfajökull is the highest mountain and volcano in Iceland. One of the most feared as well, as it has violently erupted twice in historical times. Prior to the first eruption the area around it was challed Hérađ (shire), being green and lush. After the eruption, the area was flooded and covered in ash and volcanic debris. For decades after the eruption the area was uninhabited and since been called Örćfi - badlands.

At the crack of dawn, we were at one of Iceland's most incredible locations - Jökulsárlón, literally- glacier lagoon. I have never seen such an amazing place, and by luck, it was a clear morning, allowing the dormant volcano of Örćfajökull to recieve a wonderful alpine glow under the white moon.
This image was the one of the first I shot there, and the magical light wasn't at its peak yet. But the surreal combination of blue and pink is still embedded deep in my mind.
A lineup of beautiful glaciers was right on the lagoon's bank, as if they had decided to join us in watching the magic unravel.

When nearing the black mountain, the finely-grained sand slowly turns into massive black rocks. The passing waves flow over them, creating a special, eery look.

These were the actual colors on this magical morning in Breiđamerkurjökull. I'd never been in such an environment before, and the hours we spent there were full of beauty and excitement.

Ţingvellir is pure natural beauty. This wonderful lake is comfortably situated very close to Rejkyavik, and so we headed there right after breakfast, to watch the sunrise.
The lake was perfectly calm. It was cold outside, but we couldn't help but enjoy wading on the snowy banks, admiring the striking colors of the vegetation, and the constantly-changing clouds and light. A long exposure gave this image the dreamy feel Ţingvellir had given me.

A frozen icesheet over a flowing river in Fjadrargljufur canyon, Iceland. Wearing thermal fishing waders supplied little protection againt the bitter cold of the river. I'd long lost sensation in both my feet, but I was mesmerized by this unique scenery. The tall spires on both sides of the canyon, the icy environment so unfamiliar to an Israeli, the cristal clear river, all made this visit very special.

Fjadrargljufur will be one of many amazing location we'll visit on my upcoming 'Land of Ice' Iceland winter workshop, next January. If you want to experience and shoot these incredible landscapes, please check out the workshop page.
