Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.
'Step forward now, you soldier,
How shall I deal with you ?
Have you always turned the other cheek ?
To My Church have you been true?'
The soldier squared his shoulders and said,
'No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry guns,
Can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough.
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep...
Though I worked a lot of overtime,
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God, forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place,
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around,
Except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you d
Why guns?I'm sure many of my fellow dA armorers have experienced that sideways glance you get when you show a friend your gallery full of fictional weapons...like they're wondering if they should call the police and warn them of a potential mass shooter, though they're confused because you don't seem like a violent person. Why guns?2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Well, that's because we're NOT violent people, at least not most of us. If we would only draw a space marine blowing the head off of an alien, that would be cool; but, somehow, drawing the gun by itself is disturbing to many... It makes no sense to me.
Maybe it's because I have more of an eye for the technical than the organic, and guns are more fun to draw than power tools. Maybe I like the functionality of the things. Maybe it's because I spent a great deal of my childhood playing first-person shooters.
Whatever the reason, I draw guns...and I mean you no harm.

Critique and youThere was a small discussion in my last journal about unhelpful tutorials, that touched the topic of critique.Critique and you1 year ago in Art Features More Like This
So, I decided to talk about critique for a bit.
In the online art community there is no unified stance on critique. Some people are totally incapable of recieving any form of critisism of their creation and think it's the devil. Some think that critique is should always be a "sandwich". Some people think that anything goes and the artist should listen to all feedback if he chooses to publish art online. Some say critique is only valid "constructive" and some say that it doesn't take a chef to know the steak was burnt.
I'll talk about how I percieve it - and mind you, my perception had changed over the years. This is more about what I figured during this time.
Point 1: Feedback is essential for development. That's not a solely artistic thing. Every human activity implies there's a trial and error process involved in the honing of any skill and being taught that skill. Thing is,

LAST MAN STANDING - KILLBOOK OF A BOUNTY HUNTERSo, the book is out!LAST MAN STANDING - KILLBOOK OF A BOUNTY HUNTER2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Yes, it's actually in stores now. I know, crazy right?
It's a property I've been working on for the past five years, and started here on DeviantArt. Thanks to the loyal fanbase of it, it was able to be turned into a book first for Heavy Metal. After, it was picked up by Paramount Pictures to be turned into a film, and now picked up by Dark Horse Comics.
I can't tell you how excited I am for you to all finally see it.
But most importantly, to the 2012 Pre-Orders, your books are on the way (TO US!) Once I receive them, I will personalize each one, and send the two signed prints as well. Thank you for your patience, it means the world to me.
To everyone else interested, here are some awesome reviews and link to the book itself.
Much love from Gabriel and I.

2D + 3D CommissionsHello, you arrived at my Commisions page2D + 3D Commissions3 years ago in Personal More Like This
If you are interested in getting a CGI image created for you, please continue to the section you are interested in. There are three sections:
2D section covers all kind of colored, shaded images, preferably drawn with outlines.
3D works is about polygonal objects of all kinds, textured and with some post-processing for nice looks.
Vector images refer to things drawn with hard lines and occasional shading, such as blueprints and ink-like drawings.
I do all kinds of art and I'm opened to different styles (vector drawings of a Star Wars ship, 3D render of a Stargate vehicle, blueprint for a Dune tank and of course every kind of original universe objects and scenes) so don't be afraid to ask for anything that you can think of.
You can also check examples of my commisioned work and private gallery works on the bottom of this entry.
I am looking forward to working with you and seeing a happy finish

The GardenerCold nights and nervous skies greeted him with October. This was where he had left, even if he was still here. The city ached and he longed for fresh memories. The river was ice. There was a new sort of alone, cut from the flesh of the old. It was not the absence of humanity but rather a subtle misalignment that compelled him down the angles of the curving morning.
It wasn't as if there was someplace else to go, if you were nowhere. As a cat all nights were gray. He was much as he had always been, and held some memory of what would yet be. Chasing shadows is easy, given their abundance.
He's gardening, which is peculiar. It's peculiar for him, at least. It's also a strange way to pass time in a desert. Still, things need weeded and general appearances kept up. A gardener is fundamentally an executioner. The thought struck him as he dug thatch

MLeth's Thoughts - We Are CopiesI've been meaning to touch upon this subject a while now so here we go!MLeth's Thoughts - We Are Copies3 years ago in Personal More Like This
How do we become who we are? How we speak, how we behave with certain people or how we paint?
By observing others of course - Wether it be friends, family or the people on TV - We always pick up on things that we like and subconsiously try to emulate it.
A fine example is how you easily pick up new accents wherever you go. We adapt.
The same goes for art in the sense that you rarely draw your own style - Especially when it comes to the cartoon or manga style. Like me! I started drawing manga based on what I'd seen in animes and manga books. The past couple of years I've been trying really hard to find a style that I can call my own though, but in the end it will be a mix between other styles. Of course, this is not what bothers me, because picking up on other peoples styles and techniques is what makes you grow as an artist.
No, what bothers and makes me sad, is when people aim to completely recreate another person

At first, you look at it and hey, its a pretty nice piece of work, and it totally is. But the longer you look at it, you notice that something isn't quiiiiiite right about it. Her arm looks like it has a second joint in her elbow, the tabbard and cloak are flat where her legs are clearly in motion, leaving you to wonder where her knee is under all those clothes. The way she's holding the sword would interfere with the shield, unless her shield arm was pulled back a little further.
Here's a diagram I put together to clarify: http://s30.postimg.org/5xi3i3y4h/58
Our superficial societyLet me begin with a short anecdote:Our superficial society3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I was in a hotel room with friends, on the last day of what had been, until then, an amazing holiday. Much like this journal, the topic of conversation quickly turned to girls and relationships.
We somehow began talking about bases, and to which one each of us had gotten. For those who have yet to come across the term, it's a baseball analogy where 'first base' is kissing, followed by progressively more intimate actions, and there are no prizes for guessing what 'a home run' signifies. I announced, with neither pride nor shame, that I have yet to reach first base at the ripe age of 17; this was received with a mixture of shock and pity, which baffles me. One then went on to say that he should set me up with one of his female friends, which I outright dismissed.
The story gets mildly more interesting here. Fast forward a few hours: after having visited the bar, we return to the hotel room, with one of my friends managing to get himself incredibly drun

Hard SF Feature 03: Rhys TaylorContinuing my feature on Hard SF art, today featuring Rhys Taylor.Hard SF Feature 03: Rhys Taylor7 months ago in Personal More Like This
This series features artists whose work is grounded in hard science, and one cannot get more grounded in science than Blender artist Rhys Taylor, astrophysicist, Arecibo galaxy hunter, currently hailing from the Astronomical Institute, Prague.
When I started researching Project Orion after reading George Dyson’s book on the topic* one of the first things I came across was Rhys Taylor’s now famous youtube video Project Orion: A Re-Imagining. At the time I never dreamed that one day I would be brainstorming nuclear pulse propulsion concepts with Rhys1, nor did I imagine that my nuclear pulse propulsion art would play a role, albeit a small role2, the larger contribution being made by Winchell Chung, who provided Rhys with early concept art for the Discovery spacecraft from Arthur C. Clarke and
Devious Journal EntryWhile the shooting yesterday was very sad, I'm shocked at how both sides of the gun debate have completely flown off the handle. I look at the posts from both sides, and I honestly cannot decide which is worse. So let's straighten some things out:Devious Journal Entry3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Why the Right is wrong: Arming teachers and hall monitors is an abjectly terrible idea. See, there's this thing called "contagious gunfire". What that means is that, in a charged situation, a single shot can set off a chain reaction of shooting by triggering the fight or flight response in the brains of shooters. Police and Military personal are trained specifically to keep their cool in such scenarios, and even they fall victim to this sort of thing. Putting guns in the hands of untrained civilians in a high-stress scenario like a school shooting is more likely to add to the violence than detract from it. Police are trained not to draw, let alone fire, their weapons except as an absolute last resort. Civilians (especially the type likely to

"We are the only species on earth that cooks its food - and we are also the cleverest species on the planet. The question is: do we cook because we're clever and imaginative, or are we clever and imaginative because our ancestors discovered cooking?
Horizon examines the evidence that our ancestors' changing diet and their mastery of fire prompted anatomical and neurological changes that resulted in taking us out of the trees and into the kitchen."

The Pearl Harbor Attack, 7 December 1941Yesterday, 7 December 1941-a date which will live in infamy-the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan. The Pearl Harbor Attack, 7 December 19414 years ago in Personal More Like This
The United States was at peace with that nation and, at the solicitation of Japan, was still in conversation with its Government and its Emperor looking toward the maintenance of peace in the Pacific. Indeed, one hour after Japanese air squadrons had commenced bombing in Oahu, the Japanese Ambassador to the United States and his colleague delivered to the Secretary of State a formal reply to a recent American message. While this reply stated that it seemed useless to continue the existing diplomatic negotiations, it contained no threat or hint of war or armed attack.
It will be recorded that the distance of Hawaii from Japan makes it obvious that the attack was deliberately planned many days or even weeks ago. During the intervening time the Japanese Government had deliberately sought to deceive the United States

While we must never forget the courage and sacrifice of the men on the beach that day and the days to follow, nor the men who planned and led the operation that would make history, we must not overlook the others as well who did their part on those momentous days leading up to and after D-Day:
The men and women behind Operation Bodyguard and Fortitude, who helped deceive and mislead the Axis of the landing plans and operation.
The pilots and aircrew who cleared the sky so the men on the ground would have no reason to fear looking up, while giving the enemy plenty of reason to stay down.
