Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.
'Step forward now, you soldier,
How shall I deal with you ?
Have you always turned the other cheek ?
To My Church have you been true?'
The soldier squared his shoulders and said,
'No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry guns,
Can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough.
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep...
Though I worked a lot of overtime,
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God, forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place,
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around,
Except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,

Young artists are our futureI’m proud of young artists, it makes me happy to see so many young teens dare to aim for what they love to do and be appreciated for it.Young artists are our future3 months ago in Art Features More Like This
If you’re 25+ and get anxious seeing really young people make great art; please don’t.
Just because they’re 13-16 doesn’t make you any less successful as an artist.
Remember: today it’s so much easier to start taking commissions, find tutorials and references, lots of art youtube channels, paypal, free digital art software, cheaper drawing tablets, art livestreaming, online communities willing to give feedback etc…
When I was 13 I didn’t even know how to browse the web - I wasn’t yet fluent in english.
I didn’t know what “deviantart” was
nor did I not know about “tutorials” or “commissions”.
Heck drawing tablets weren’t that common either for what I know, my first tablet had a battery-driven pen and it sr

Only one day left for The Protectorate Wars art book kickstarter guys! http://kck.st/1dkwhua
We're also only $72 away from a stretch goal to add 10 more pages to the book (going up to 110). Not much left to say other than my continued thanks for all the support you've shown so far. Now to wait and see what we end up with.
Just hit 100% funding! Time to start gearing up for full production.
There are still 8 days left in the campaign however, so there's still room to raise more funding. Every additional $1000 in funding will add 10 pages to the book.
Go pledge and share! http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1261104315/the-protectorate-wars-art-book
Another reminder to all existing backers. If you've previously pledged $5, $12, or, $15 (Transmission Interception, Hot Dropped Marine, and Hardened Marine options), you can increase your pledge by $2 to add the Elemental 30 page side booklet to your rewards.

I consider technical drawings to be an art form, art raised to an exacting level of precision, and Scott is a master of the craft.
In Aerospace Projects Review issue Volume 2, Number 2, available here Scott offers a beautifully illustrated 56-page article on Project Orion. This is one of the most definitive articles on the subject, covering the large designs, 20 meters and diameter and larger. The 4,000 ton nuclear pulse propulsion orbital battleship design for the USAF is shown in never-before-published detail. Scott was able to interview one of the surviving members of the original Ge

PMG Tips and TricksIn the past I've been working on a full PimpMyGun Guide. Unfortunately my laptop crashed, losing the already nearly finished guide. I'm still working on a way to retrieve it. Anyways, here's a small part of that, the tips and tricks section, which I've saved on my phone.PMG Tips and Tricks7 months ago in Art Features More Like This
I hope this helps anyone who enjoys using PMG, beginner or experienced.
Tips and tricks
This might be the most powerful tip I have to share. PMG'ing should be fun. The builds that aren't even that good, but were the most fun building are probably the best builds, feeling-wise. So having fun using PMG is very important.
You can't become a PMG master in a couple of days. Sure, this guide will be of help, but most of it really depends on yourself. Being persistent is important. You will get stuck on a build, you will forget to save and lose hours of work because you pressed the wrong button or your computer or Flash crashes, and you will have a moment when you don't know how to build something.
Armed Standoff at Nevada RanchUPDATES: FINAL?: BLM appears to have backed off for the time being. The cattle have been returned to Cliven Bundy, but not until after a reported 130 head died of heat exhaustion after being chased by helicopters, two more were shot by BLM agents, and one bicyclist was murdered by a BLM agent at a checkpoint around the ranch in days prior to this citizen revolt.Armed Standoff at Nevada Ranch2 years ago in Personal More Like This
This battle has been won, but the war is still being waged. The BLM is still going after cattle ranchers in other states, trying to shut them out of their land as well. Stay vigilant, friends. When you see injustice, remember that silence is acceptance.
6: BLM claims they will stand down; Bundy demands disarming of park service, dismantling of checkpoints government signs around ranch, and for BLM to prove that they will leave Bunkerville alone for good
5: AT&T messaged the Bundy's phones, stating: "AT&T supports Cliven Bundy and family in their time of struggle."

I’ll start with an apology to anyone who’s shown up late and has had trouble reconciling jflaxman the sci-fi/horror illustrator with jflaxman the cartoonist. Hey, remember when you made art about weird shit happening in post-apocalyptic landscapes, never visiting the same idea twice, always finding something fresh to draw/say, and basically just making things that were actually interesting? Yeah, me too. But I guess nothing good ever lasts in this world.
I've always had a love-hate affair with "Scorched Earth." I did a lot in 2012, took a long break in 2013, did a whole lot more at the start of this year and feel like

Why guns?I'm sure many of my fellow dA armorers have experienced that sideways glance you get when you show a friend your gallery full of fictional weapons...like they're wondering if they should call the police and warn them of a potential mass shooter, though they're confused because you don't seem like a violent person. Why guns?2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Well, that's because we're NOT violent people, at least not most of us. If we would only draw a space marine blowing the head off of an alien, that would be cool; but, somehow, drawing the gun by itself is disturbing to many... It makes no sense to me.
Maybe it's because I have more of an eye for the technical than the organic, and guns are more fun to draw than power tools. Maybe I like the functionality of the things. Maybe it's because I spent a great deal of my childhood playing first-person shooters.
Whatever the reason, I draw guns...and I mean you no harm.

"You can find this image on many wallpapers websites and there is no copyrights on it.
You should start with all these websites who are permitting everybody to download the image and do whatever you like with it."
Oh, la di da.
Let me just go after millions of blogs all around the world that re-post my art and write all of them to delete everything.
Because that's the most logical thing to do.

The Day of the Dead(Crossposted from my Tumblr)The Day of the Dead2 years ago in Personal More Like This
The local classical station had a remarkable program yesterday that was well in keeping with the holiday. In counterpoint to the mountain of self-conscious kitsch that flows over Halloween, they played composers who died far too young.
It's a subtle point, that might be mistaken for gloom. From the 'Spanish Mozart' who died in 1736 barely out of his teens to a brilliant young woman that might have changed the face of the interbellum symphony had she not died of the Spanish Flu with tens of millions of others, there is loss beyond real measure.
Yet, the music lives on. Not as much as we would like, as the silence seems oppressive in the shadow of winter, yet their work outlives them. Likely it will outlive us as well.
The relationship between the living and the dead is a contentious issue, full of vulgar proclamations and all the certainty of hearsay. We are caught between two fires in the dark, and as simple a thing as the sound of strings can make all the
Technology in AraeaI've touched on this subject before in the vignettes and in responses to comments but I figure I will devote a journal entry to this as well.Technology in Araea2 years ago in Personal More Like This
What is the technology level in Araea?
Araea's technological development is inconsistent, most likely as a result of the circumstances under which the island was colonized. Certain technologies have advanced more than others and certain regions are more advanced than others. The large population centers are the most technologically advanced, broadly equivalent to a real-world late 1940s/early 1950s level of development with the occasional foray into near-1960s level. Out in the far-flung regions of the provinces it is less developed, with electricity not even being available to some of the more remote homesteads.
Things that don't exist in Araea include: cell phones, video games, personal computers and digital clocks. Cinemas play black and white films regularly but there is no television. Radio is the pr

Critique and youThere was a small discussion in my last journal about unhelpful tutorials, that touched the topic of critique.Critique and you1 year ago in Art Features More Like This
So, I decided to talk about critique for a bit.
In the online art community there is no unified stance on critique. Some people are totally incapable of recieving any form of critisism of their creation and think it's the devil. Some think that critique is should always be a "sandwich". Some people think that anything goes and the artist should listen to all feedback if he chooses to publish art online. Some say critique is only valid "constructive" and some say that it doesn't take a chef to know the steak was burnt.
I'll talk about how I percieve it - and mind you, my perception had changed over the years. This is more about what I figured during this time.
Point 1: Feedback is essential for development. That's not a solely artistic thing. Every human activity implies there's a trial and error process involved in the honing of any skill and being taught that skill. Thing is,

Produced by Steven Spielberg, the new show would build on the success of the Halo 4 mini-series, Forward Unto Dawn. But it was the failure of the Halo movie that gave birth to the new show.
The film was first announced in 2005.
