Weekly Spell Corner VThis entry was requested to be entered by dA-pagans member asleeplikewolves, she wished to put forward, one of the more controversial topics of sacrifice. Since this is a very eclectic group and there are members from many different paths here, I figured it might be healthy to get a good discussion going about it.
"Sacrifices vs. Offerings
As a public Pagan, I've seen offerings of all kinds freely and happily given. Gathered through a decade of personal study and experience with many public groups, the characteristics of offerings are:
gifts given to a variety of entities, from land spirits to the Elements, the Fae, or the Ancestors
usually in the form of food and drink, but can include poetry, music, or crafts
can also be organic items like flowers, seeds, tobacco, etc.
the act of giving is a carefree, light-hearted one, usually carried at the close of a ritual
What I very rarely see, or even hear talk of, is the practice of

I ask you grant me the patience, kindness, and will
To assist others, even those who bid me ill.
I seek your guidance and strength
For eternal is its length.
But most of all,
I seek your mercy
And grace me the fortune
Of your daily love and blessing.

Tells me I must go
Suddenly my senses synced
Like a memory from long ago
In the forest I am strong
As I race the wind
Then I hear a song
Something told me to follow the rivers flow
My spirit fierce as fire
My fears only a faint echo
To find this music my only desire
As I reach a glade
I see a woman before me
Her face obscured by the oak trees shade
I was unable to see her clearly
She beckons me forward
And something catches my eye as I near
And my step faltered
She asks me something but I don't hear
For I can't take my eyes
From the warrior next to her
She realizes this and sighs
And he comes silent as a whisper
As I see them standing there together
I realize who they are
As if it were written and the man's armor
My lord and lady, perhaps my savior

Weekly Spell Corner VII know I know, it's been 10 days, I'm slacking, but my internet got cut off and another bunch of crazy stuff and excuses I'm sure none of you are interested in... So! On with this weeks (very belated) Spell Corner!Weekly Spell Corner VI3 years ago in Personal More Like This
As we all know, it's Mabon next week, or Ostara for our friends in the Southern Hemisphere, but I know there are other members with journals on Lore and such, so I'll leave those specifics to them. However, this time of year is great for spells centered around balancing and cleansing. Washing out the old, and welcoming the new, in preparation for Samhain, with the concentration on Life, Death and Rebirth.
To Banish Negative Energy
River stones and an Earthen bowl of water are used in this ritual. Its purpose is to deflect negativity.
Fill the bowl nearly full of river stones, then fill the bowl with water. The chant used here is:
"Bowl of reflection stones of protection
may the reason of my harm feel the power of this charm

There are four traditional Gaelic seasonal festivals involving great feasts, bonfires, and dancing: Samhain (Feast of the Dead), Imbolc (Day of Cailleach), Beltane (Fertility Festival), and Lughnasadh (Feast of Lugh). Samhain is a Celtic Pagan Fire Festival of the Dead signifying the last harvest of the year before winter and is the time when twin bonfires are lit, and animals and people pass between them in a cleansing ritual and the bones of slaughtered livestock were cast into the flames, as well as the day when the last livestock to be taken is killed and prepared, the last foods from the fields are brought in, and a feast is held, leaving a place set for the ancestors to join the living. In addition, all the hearth fires are put out and a flame is taken from a central bonfire to light the hear
A Few Words About Pagan Hostility(Cross posted to my Personal Journal.)A Few Words About Pagan Hostility2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I have been poking at various Pagan and Wiccan books over the years that I am guided to pick up and read (one's Spirit Guides and Spiritual Instincts can be so helpful in this capacity) and in reading them, I take serious consideration of the words written in them and do much meditation and conference with my Spirit Guides, as well as cross referencing to find the truth, or rather what feels right and true. However, as I was reading one book I picked up recently, I found an odd term that I thought I would research, wondering at the meaning and use of it. That is when I found out about a very disturbing trend among the Pagan community - Hate Mongering against other Pagans for their views on Paganism and especially Wiccanism.
The term I came across was "Fluffy Bunny" Pagans. In doing some research, I also found the term "Hardcore" Pagans

Christ is NOT the reason for the SeasonLast year I wrote an editorial for an online interfaith website, Patheos. With the holidays around the corner, I thought some of you might appreciate a chance to read that article, as it talks about how Christ became associated with the season, and some of the pagan origins of the holiday.Christ is NOT the reason for the Season4 years ago in Personal More Like This
Once upon a time I was Christian, specifically I was a devout Born Again Baptist. Yes, I have read the Bible from cover-to-cover six different times. I can still sing a number of hymns from memory, as well as modern Christian songs, and I can quote Bible verses and Church history at you better than some ministers I’ve met through the years (though certainly not all). Long before I ever even conceived of converting, when people would say “Christ is the reason for the season” it irked me, because even then and as a Christian I knew that it simply wasn’t true.
Now that I am Pagan (specifically Heathen) it especially irks me, since so m
