Opinions on the fake NatMorleyYes I'm posting a journal as well.
This is about the ever so famous natmorley
This journal is not really meant as proof of anything, only opinions on the matter.
You may have seen her drawings somewhere on this site, and maybe you are a fan. A good number of pencil artists, me included, believe them all to be utter rubbish. Fake rubbish that is.
Now why on earth would you say such a thing?
Well let's have a look at them, shall we?
First of all they all match the reference 100%. Even tracing won't do that for you. Also the drawing looks to be perfect and smooth underneath, and then she's scribbled on top as I there was no tomorrow. I would say that is a bit curious. Why make a perfect drawing only to ruin it with scribbling?
That's her style you might say. Well lets then look at what she says about her drawings. Oh she uses about 5 hours on a portrait. Trust me, if the drawing is perfect (minus the ugly scribbling on top) then you'd use a LOT more than 5 hours.

which states clear cut facts so as to why the whole issue about someone faking their art creates rage waves through the art community!
The last week has been a riot which ended up in me getting blocked by two deviants here who clearly have something to hide!
I obviously care much less about the fact that there are many artists here on dA who get more famous than others considering the skill work. Some people get lucky and some don't. It's not easy getting known around this site.
But the fact that people would want to fake art to get accolades makes me angrier than ever.
Here are two examples on what happens when you try to confront artists whom you are suspicious about!
Example 1- The "awesome":iconnatmorley:

This is a journal I've been meaning to write for a while but I don't know where to begin.
I'm going to list some scenarios that have bothered me and afterwards give a short comment.
Just to be clear:
- This concerns traditional art only.
- I don't disapprove or dislike all of these examples but I want all media and alterations be listed in the artist's notes.
- This is just my pet peeves.
- there are many deviants that I like that use effects.
- I'm not an art-nazi, this is for those who pretend to be something they're not.
ONE LAST UPDATE:
- This does not include correcting scanning and photography quality loss - I have no problem with that.
1. Sepia color overlay.
There are many deviants that change the color of their graphite drawings from black & white to a faded brown in Photoshop. Fundamentally I don't have a problem with that but it should be listed in the media since
FAQWhat pencils and supplies do you most often use? (Including coloured pencils )FAQ2 years ago in Personal More Like This
For graphite drawings I use a fairly basic set of tools and I do have preferred brands. I mainly use Tombow Mono 100 pencils, Tombow Mono Zero Erasers, Blu-Tack (instead of a kneaded eraser), Tortillions, colour shaper and Tissue if I'm blending. I mainly use a smooth plate finish paper for graphite drawings, my preferred brand is Mellotex, but I also use Winsor and Newton Extra Smooth Bristol board. My essential kit is here http://pbird12.deviantart.com/gallery/30897635#/d5euwgp it's not exhaustive, but it's what I use most of all.
For coloured pencil drawings I use Faber-Castell Polychromos pencils and Blu-Tack and occasionally a touch of white acrylic for highlights if I've lost them in the colouring process. I like a Hot Pressed Watercolour paper for colour pencil drawings. It's smooth enough to keep everything looking ni
Fake art - why care and what to look forI posted this last week for anyone looking for help to spot fake art. This is not law, if you don't care, feel free to move on. But if you do care that there are fakers out there, then maybe this could be of some use to you too. We have a serial faker on the loose on dA today so it sparked this little lot once more.Fake art - why care and what to look for3 years ago in Personal More Like This
So, the questions/scenarios asked are always the same and the responses/justifications are always the same, but give them a minute to sink in before replying and insulting.
(Q1) Why do you care if someone is cheating what does it have to do with you?
(A1) Well, this is a public ART site and if people are submitting art that is not actually what they claim it to be, then they are dishonest. This will annoy some people and not others. If your passionate about your work then the chances are you'll find it insulting to the artistic community as a whole. Additionally, a lot of admins of groups HAVE to deal with fakes as a daily occure

What's the point?
* For fun
* For the challenge
* To try something new with a non standard medium
* I'll feature everyone on my page for a week with the art from this challenge
* For my favourite piece, I'll give away my coffee creation as a prize (and if it sucks, I'll do you a drawing instead)
What are the rules?
* Paint a portrait using coffee as your medium and nothing else (well, maybe a tiny bit of graphite for your sketch and tiny touches of your choice of white/black medium for highlighting/darkening choice areas, but that's it!) Your art must be at least 90% coffee.
* Paint whoever you like, but it must be a painting that you have put time into; I won't accept halfhearted or obviously rushed entr
A rant on 'professional' elitismI haven't submitted a journal entry to dA in almost a year. I had art block, and I've been very ill. For like, six months at a time. But I seem to be drawing now. So here I am. Submitting this as a journal instead of news article because I don't particularly want a bazillion people flaming me. I've pieced this together from conversations with people on twitter ( https://twitter.com/crimefish ).A rant on 'professional' elitism3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I'd like to bitch about elitism. So here goes.
"I should know, I'm a professional."
Yes. And I should know because I work out of love for my craft, not for money. One is not innately better than the other! I can't count how many times I've seen some bonehead say someone is creating art 'wrong', and justify it with "I should know. I'm a professional." Really? REALLY? Do you know what the word means? At bare minimum, it means someone is dumb enough to pay you to draw. On its own, having professional status does not mean you know any better than I do. Being a professional
Respect...I'm not sure what has happened to DA lately, but sadly I'm noticing more and more people are becoming rude and obnoxious when commenting on others work. This isn't just my work, I've noticed it across the whole site.Respect...2 years ago in Personal More Like This
It seems some people think it's absolutely ok to insult people, with absolutely no provocation, other than the fact they don't like their work or are jealous for some reason (the person's work makes them feel bad about themselves or they feel the person is getting more attention than them, for what they consider invalid reasons).
If you have something constructive or relevant to say about someone's work, no matter how negative, then that is absolutely ok. But to just be negative or plain rude to make yourself feel better, is never ok under any circumstances. Think before you type, how would you feel if someone wrote what you were about to write, to you, your partner or your friend? Would you find it helpful, hurtful, insulting? Would you have the guts to
Fake artLately, there have been a lot of discussions about fake art here, at dA. I've been a member of dA for 5 years and have seen hundreds of deviations which owners claimed/claim they are real, hand-made drawings. In fact, they are photoshopped photos, overdrawn printouts and so on. What is horrifying, these cheaters are getting better and better at faking art! It's becoming harder to recognize whether the deviation is a real drawing, or a scribbled doodle over the fade printout. The sad thing is, LOTS OF people actually fall for it and get deceived!Fake art2 years ago in Personal Journal More Like This
At the beginning I chickened out and I didn't want to say out loud names of the dA cheaters. You see, I'm too sensitive and I was afraid I'd had been flamed by their aggressive fans [oh yes, some of them are quite unpolite when defending their fav "artists"!]. Once I was involved in such issue and ended up feeling sad and unfairly mistreated. It hurt.
But since my dA friends and couple of other folks have written journals about the p

I will not post any WIP, so it could be this month, next month, end of this year, next yearContest - Can't Turn Back the Years2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Almost end of the year, time for a new contest. A lot of entries were posted for my last one, and I am at this moment busy at drawing the prices for the 2 winners. So it's a good time for something different and new...
I have been working for about 3 weeks on my new drawing now. Nothing on paper yet, but I have been creating my reference in Photoshop. I call it 'Beauty and the Beast' for now, but that is just a working title.
There is a big difference with my other work. There I just use a photo created by fellow artists on dA. For this one, I had an image in my head that would not be easy to find in a single reference. Therefore I worked for already about 10 hours on creating my own, using multiple sources.
How did I ca

I normally wouldn't send a journal out to you all about things I have published or for sale, but this one is of no benefit to me and it's all about fundraising, so I made an exception
This is the piece I drew -
There are some dA friends in there too with beautiful work and you can preview all pages before buying.

Since it's my 10th art anniversary this year [I took up drawing exactly 10 years ago], I decided to make a contest. I asked the readers of my Polish blog what kind of contest they want, a raffle or they want to draw something, if yes, what technique and what theme do they prefer. Basing on their choices and my own ideas, I came up with this contest:

Women as Sex ObjectsWarning: Imma 'bout to rant.Women as Sex Objects2 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
First off I'd like to point out that I'm not a raving feminist. I acknowledge that women are not equal in western society (despite corporate efforts that seem to be more about statements and false enthusiasm on the subject rather than actually taking women seriously) and I don't think we will be equal for a long time, if ever. Just how it is. Unfortunate (from the perspective of a woman), but just how it is.
ANYWAY. Here's my rant. I'm really tired of a female character being undermined by her being half nude. Really, really tired of it. And I'm not talking about artistic nudity, I'm talking about ass-cheek flashing skirts, bikini tops and little else (I'm looking at you, Japan).
I love a strong female lead, but they're so rare. Writers find it so hard to create a complex female character; they're either so brave and outspoken that they become butch and unattractive by design, or they're a sex object. A hopeless damsel in distress or someone who can hold th

This contest is somewhat different: We will provide you with different stock images: Four of people, four of interior shots, four of outdoor/landscape images and four 'unusual or 'difficult' images. Now your mission is to choose one (or more) of those and get as creative with it as possible! You can use any part of the stock images in any way you like--so long as it's recognizable as having come from the image. Imagine all the different possibles!
Here pure skill is not as important- A perfect portrait might get not as much recognition as a really creative piece with the same stock base.

An artwork of your animal friend
By an animal friend, I mean your own pet, but it can also be your family pet, family dog for example, as well as some animal you're closely connected to and love very much, like that one special horse of your granddad's you made friends with and love to ride.
Does my animal friend have to be..uhm...alive?
No. I even encourage making an artwork of an animal you loved very much, but unfortunately is no longer with you, for whichever reason. Always wanted to draw your dog you spent so many wonderful years together? Now's a good time.
