The Mass Effect OC team Competition!Oh it is on like Donkey Kong! We have quite the large list of talented contenders already and are still looking for more! The Mass Effect OC team Competition!1 year ago in Personal More Like This
The challenge? To create your own team of original Mass Effect characters and display them using a medium of your choice. You can draw them, make them using 3d models, write character dossiers or upload an interpretive dance with yourself acting out all your characters. First Captain Planet gave you the power, now I'M giving you the power to choose as you will how to display your kickass team!
The prize: 1000 DA POINTS!!!
The deadline: 31st of October 2013
- You cannot use characters from the games. They can be related but must otherwise have all original character stories
- Your characters must have names. Backstory to each would be nice but not compulsory
- One team per entry
- The minimum number of characters for a team is three. The maximum is seven million, twenty eight thousand and two.
- You must be prepared for the community to comment on you

Pixar's 22 Rules of Storytelling
(Originally tweeted by Emma Coates, Pixar's Story Artist.)
You admire a character for trying more than for their successes. You gotta keep in mind what's interesting to you as an audience, not what's fun to do as a writer. They can be very different.Trying for theme is important, but you won't see what the story is actually about til you're at the end of it. Now rewrite.Once upon a time there was ___. Every day, ___. One day ___. Because of that, ___. Because of that, ___. Until finally ___.Simplify. Focus. Combine characters. Hop over detours. You'll feel like you're losing valuable stuff but it sets you free. What is your character good at, comfortable with? Throw the polar opposite at them. Challenge them. How do they deal?Come up with your ending before you figure out your middle. Seriously. Endings are hard, get yours working up front.Finish your story, let go even if it'
Mass Effect 3 Mercer ModFor those of you that STILL don't know why I've not been doing anything productive recently it's because I've been working on a mod for ME3 that replaces Kaidan Alenko with Alex Mercer.Mass Effect 3 Mercer Mod7 months ago in Personal More Like This
This is starting to feel like an important thing… so I gave it it’s own tag on my tumblr blog #ME3MercerMod
Check out the progression of the mod there.
I’m attempting to make a link to said tag on my blog… it appears that tumblr needs time to figure this shit out.
in the meantime I had a small realization while working out bits and pieces of the mod…
because of the stupidly inefficient way ME3’s PCC system works, Kaiden’s armor retexture available in the N7 Collector’s edition/Digital Deluxe Edition etc. is actually a completely separate mesh along with the retexture. What does this mean? It means I can replace it with a whole new mesh and set of textures… and I FUCKING D

Yet again the Mass Effect Fandom proved that it will not leave the ending in the state it was presented in the game. A certain (fan!) mod was created (and is right now in the testing phase) a Happy Ending Mod for ME3. We can destroy the Reapers, Shepard lives (EDI and Geth too) and most importantly of all we don't have to worry about the Star Child.
Instruction how to install it and the mod itself can be found here:

Mass Effect 4 is coming, Omega DLC is confirmedBefore we get into it, I'd like to preface this with the sad fact that both of Bioware's co-founders Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuck have retired from the company.Mass Effect 4 is coming, Omega DLC is confirmed2 years ago in Personal More Like This
On the marginally plus side, I won't have to be constantly double-checking my blogs to make sure I got their names right.
To read both of their personally written farewell letters, please go to here http://blog.bioware.com/2012/09/18/from-ray-muzyka/ for Ray's, and here http://blog.bioware.com/2012/09/18/from-greg-zeschuk/ for Greg's
For those of you who would like to pay their respects to the departing minds which have supporting Bioware through the years with their own thank yous and other supportive messages... do not go to the Bioware Social Network. Really, go anywhere but there. The Dragon Age forums are busy talking about Dragon Age 3 and discussing how terribly they are suffering, and the Mass Effect forums are busy talking about Mass Effect 4... and how terribly they are suffering.

Character Feature: Shyla ShepardThe seemingly indomitable Shyla Shepard has lived a harsh and tragic past. After losing her family at sixteen to a bloody Batarian pirate attack on an Alliance colony, the young fighter joined the Alliance military only to lose her entire squad in a deadly thresher maw attack. In the years since, these early scars have forged a new identity out of the shattered ruins of the child whose family died on Mindoir. Known for her “tough but fair” approach, Shepard’s fight against the geth incursion broke new grounds for humanity when she became the first human Spectre on the galactic Council’s elite forces. But recent rumors have put in question Shepard’s loyalty to the Alliance forces. Our investigator setup an exclusive interview to delve into the truth behind the legend.Character Feature: Shyla Shepard3 years ago in Personal More Like This

It's called Write or Die. http://writeordie.com/ It's like a other tools, wherein you set a word goal and a time limit, but with a twist. You can set it to "kamikase" and if you don't write for a few seconds, it slowly turns red, and then deletes the last word you wrote. Then the word before that, and so on, until you start typing again. You can also disable backspace, making this a phenomenal freewriting tool. You can't edit or fix typos.
I was stuck with getting started writing chapter 13, which I already had plotted out but couldn't seem to get rolling, when I tried it. I powered through the miasma of fractured thoughts and worries in about fifteen minutes. At the end of the session, my heart was pounding. That's what good writing feels like to me, so I wanted to pass the word alon

both as a gamer and the influences that helped shape me as a developer.
Almost a year from when I touched my last save file, I finally "finished" the Mass Effect series. I played all the DLC and I beat the game, one last time. It was a somber ending, because it put a final end to a character I have played since 2007. I have games that I love, games stretching back to my childhood, and games that I would consider myself to be a huge fan of. I can count on one hand though (and not using all my fingers), franchises that have sucked me in and crafted characters that made me care about them in such a way, that turns this 6'5 developer into your everyday excitable fan (not Justin Beiber level though, that'd be just plain crazy). The Mass Effect series is one of those few titles.
I have looked up to Bioware for many years. Combined with my love for Point & Click advent

Rama :Why and when did you start writing?
Abstract: I started writing stories when I was eight years old. The first one was an episodic adventure called "Cindy and the Witch". I don't even remember the premise of the story now, though my older sister thought it was the coolest thing ever and still talks about it.
As to why, I suppose it started when I was about three years old. That's when I started reading. If my mother is to be believed - and I have no reason not to - I just started reading one day. I remember a lot of Sesame Street, so that's undoubtedly where I learned. In any case, I started reading everything I could get my hands on

The extended cut of Mass Effect 3 did more than just add a slideshow (although there actually was one at one point). BioWare has given players a new ending as well. Shepard can now tell the star child to go to hell and refuse to make a decision.
Here are all "4" endings, in case you don't want to waste your time playing the final 2 missions again.

Ten Things I Learned Playing Mass Effect 1. Don’t take the wrong gun to the boss fight.Ten Things I Learned Playing Mass Effect9 months ago in Personal More Like This
This is so important, I can’t stress it enough. If you don’t have the right equipment, you can’t win. (This was especially true at the Collector base when I faced the Human Reaper. I once forgot to change my heavy weapon from the Avalanche, to something that could actually kill the damn thing. I died. Repeatedly.)
And on that note…
2. Life works better when you have the right gun.
Having bigger, better equipment, does matter.
3. You pay your money, you take your chances.
I thought that a game that cost $60 x 3 would have an ending that would leave me feeling victorious. Who knew?
4. The world still sees women as sex objects even when we're the ones playing the game.
This is why Kaiden gets to wag his tongue over Asari strippe

Mass Effect: The End of an Era (SPOILERS)SPOILERS!!!Mass Effect: The End of an Era (SPOILERS)3 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
So this is the end of Mass Effect. Not just of the last game, but of the trilogy as a whole. Right now, I am of two minds. I am not wholly satisfied with the so called Extended Cut but at the same time it has some redeeming qualities to it that I can not, in good conscience, ignore:
It provides closure: For those who wanted to see what happened to the characters they came to love and the galaxy as a whole.
Injected some measure of reasoning to the actions/words of the God Child: They showed more of the logic behind the Reapers actions and how the Catalyst works.
There is something for everyone: The endings appear to be based on fan input/outcry.
The filled in some of the plot holes and contradictions: Not all of them, but by lessing the impact of the Catalyst, it showed that the damage was reversible.
It brings back some elements of classic science fiction.
Yet, two facts remain. One, the underlying logic behind the God Child is still flawed, although the designers lampsahe
Still Here, Still Writing, Still DreamingWell, it's the end of 2012 and the world still exists, and for that I can only be grateful. You see, life can be a funny thing. One minute you're sat at a desk, on your Packard-Bell desktop, forgoing your usual spates of Delta Force and Red Alert to place your first written words on a page. The next, you're here, with a couple of fan stories under your belt and work underway on a novel you've envisioned since you were a spotty, awkward teenager. I'm now ready to turn professional with my craft. I'm motivated, consistent and productive, though this has all come about within the last six months alone.Still Here, Still Writing, Still Dreaming2 years ago in Personal More Like This
How did I reach this point? A combination of the right words, the right places and the right people would be the obvious answer and yet it's not quite as simple as that. I've had to make some huge changes in both my life and what lies deep inside. Not my internal organs of course, I'm talking about my very outlook towards what I love to do.
