A Sweet Lesson On PatienceA NYC Taxi driver wrote:A Sweet Lesson On Patience2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I arrived at the address and honked the horn. After waiting a few minutes I honked again. Since this was going to be my last ride of my shift I thought about just driving away, but instead I put the car in park and walked up to the door and knocked.. 'Just a minute', answered a frail, elderly voice. I could hear something being dragged across the floor.
After a long pause, the door opened. A small woman in her 90's stood before me. She was wearing a print dress and a pillbox hat with a veil pinned on it, like somebody out of a 1940's movie.
By her side was a small nylon suitcase. The apartment looked as if no one had lived in it for years. All the furniture was covered with sheets.
There were no clocks on the walls, no knickknacks or utensils on the counters. In the corner was a cardboard
box filled with photos and glassware.
'Would you carry my bag out to the car?' she said. I took the suitcase to the cab, then returned to assist the woman.
She took my arm and

Are You Ready, Kids?A few days ago I was surfing the watery webpage of the SpongeBob wiki. Paul Tibbit posted a tweet saying that Stephen Hillenburg is returning to SpongeBob NEXT MONTH on January 2015!Are You Ready, Kids?3 months ago in Personal More Like This
I'm just as excited as the rest of you. Though I was kinda expecting him to return, I thought it was going to take a few months, but this is much earlier that I anticipated. And this means the new episodes will come sooner.
According to an interview, Steve plans to help his good friend Paul Tibbitt brainstorm for new ideas to soak up America's favourite sea creature. I for one don't blame Paul for the decline of SpongeBob in the first place. After all, the changes happened because the old writers left, and the new ones just happened to have some sort of fascination in the sick and twisted (heck, one of them used to work on Ren & Stimpy!).
Speaking of writers, Casey

Me.3 years ago in Personal More Like This

Live the dream, don't talk about it!Doug TenNapel, independent comics creator, is an inspiration to me in many ways. He has a fun, accessible art style that is dramatic and fresh. His story telling is always askew in the best of ways. I don't think I've read one of his graphic novels without having some smiles and a surprise or two along the way. On top of that, he is outspoken about almost everything in his life. (I think of him as the Rush Limbaugh of comics- oh man, that sounds really bad, but early Rush, not present day Rush, if that helps.) I agree with most things he states on Facebook. BUT- the thing I am most inspired about him is his drive (in the old days we would call that "work ethic"). The guy does NOT give up. Because of that, he single-handedly will put out a new graphic novel a year. While creating a webcomic. While pitching new TV show development ideas in Hollywood. While running a half marathon. While working freelance jobs.Live the dream, don't talk about it!2 years ago in Personal More Like This

(...) Everyone has a moment when they think “I am a bad artist.” and they think that because they see a level of skill they have not achieved yet. If this is the case, every artist ever is a bad artist, because every artist ever has had some idea, some plan, some goal of a skill level or creation that they have not achieved yet. And that’s good. Learning and growth and moving forward are all good things, so instead of trying to be some fictionalized version of a good artist, let’s all be bad artists together.

Honestly I can't brag enough of how many wonderful friends I have. I even consider all of my followers my friends and children. I just wanna spoil you all with cookies, ice-cream, strawberries and nutella, but since I don't have food or money, my art is all I can provide. I hope as time goes I can give you guys more entertainment.
There are so many friends that I strongly admire and some that I have admired for years and it amazes me that they take interest in little ol' me. It blows me away.
I hope to never lose any of that. You guys are so special to me and I want to keep you guys for the rest of my life and continue spoiling you.
And if there are times when I act depressed or "emo", then I really apologize. I don't want to return to my young years when I was dull and a hater to absolutely everything. I hope to stay happy and optimistic every single day despite my overwhelming university and other personal issues.
And to my really good friends, I hope to keep g

Animation and YoutubeI watched two youtube videos about animations and... youtube hahaha!!Animation and Youtube7 months ago in Personal More Like This
They're very interesting because it's a topic I'm super passionate about, in terms of art career vs financial stability.
I won't rant for too long, but I hope some of you guys understand the hard work artists go through. when I see comments like "art isn't a real job" or "make cartoons faster", I get livid.
With me, derogatory insults don't matter. You can call me whatever you want, I've been called worse by people I know. But ignorance on the animation process and business really gets to me. At least understand that even a minute animation takes a super long.
Having over 100,000 subscribers does not equate success for a youtube animator. And it's much more than not using adblocks.
OTHER TOPIC I've been feeling a little better. Thanks everyone for the nice comments! I've been surrounding myself lately with wonderful friends that are super positive and inspirational. It was rough before because I didn't use to have

My Progression as an Animator at DisneyA friend of mine is writing a book on animation fundamentals and asked me for a "paragraph or two" (which I can't do) on the subject of timing. I considered it and ended up writing about my progression of learning while a Disney animator in the traditional animation days. It was good therapy for me to really think this through and consider the order of things. I hope you enjoy it. "Like" or "fav" this so others will see it too. My Progression As A Disney Animator
by Tom Bancroft
Walt Disney is quoted as saying that it takes 10 years to make a great animator.
When I was first coming out of California Institute of the Arts and joining a Disney internship in 1988, hearing that quote was devastating. 10 years? That's FOREVER! I wanted to be a full-fledged Disney animator in TWO years! I rationalized that that was a way of thinking from the 40s and today, we move at a quicker pace, so-

Small Hints how to get views, faves etc.For a lot of you it might be nothing new, but since a lot of you are either new on dA or not experienced with something like "strategies" to get views, comments and faves for their works i (your most favourite dA group guy :icongbk666: ) thought i write up a few hopefully useful hints for you.Small Hints how to get views, faves etc.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
1. Upload as many drawings / photos etc. as you can. Some of you would argue now that it can be counterproductive if the deviations are not good, but i come to that point in #2
2. Join Groups. A Ton of them.. at least 15-25 . And submit your stuff to them on a regular base. BUT only the things you consider by yourself as "good" . The rest is for your gallery only, and interesting for those deviants who want to see sketches, WIP's etc.
Always care about the theme of the dA groups of course and about their rules. If you are not Alvin Lee, Artgerm or Genzoman or have over 100k views on your profile already and over 400-500 watchers at least you really need dA groups to g

For our Group: :iconMario-Bros-Movie:....We will be posting "challenges" for volunteers to create "concept art" for our Group's gallery.
For the 1st challenge (Princess Peach), we want to see artwork of Peach, following the example set by the picture below...

To me, this is the PERFECT example of what Princess Peach should look like in a serious epic animated movie. I honestly can't find a single thing in this picture that needs improvement (well, except for one small-but-important detail).
