All the characters from the Lord of the Rings, including Aragorn, belong to JRR Tolkien (c)
Ink's wonderful Grima! Quite proud of this one. The collar/shawl thingy was smocked by , proving she's mad. I've forgotten the exact yardage that went in to that thing, but it was a monster. A few thing we might try and change in the future.. One, we have to find some better boots, two we really need to get the necklace right...What you see there is a large ear ring, painted with nail polish! And a little bit more wear and tear on it, but those are minor. This might be my most screen "accurate" costume I've done, in terms of color and layout compared to the original.
Advent Calendar (with 31 compartments, so it can be used in ANY month) based on Tolkien's "The Hobbit" -- I made this with a wide variety of materials including watercolor, colored pencil, ink (including gold and silver ink), card stock and an assortment of papers, matboard, and lots and lots of patience with scissors, glue, and exacto knife. Each window or door opens onto a little compartment; compartments vary in depth -- from right at the surface of the calendar to an inch deep, and each features a drawing of a character or important object from "The Hobbit" (you may've guessed already, but #1 is of course The One Ring while the largest, 31, opens onto Bilbo in his hallway). All of my drawings are based on the book descriptions; I tried not to be too influenced by the movies (even though I really love them!)
as Pippin as Merry Photography: Deep Dive Cosplay Location: Hobbiton in Matamata, New Zealand
Over the Christmas and New Year holidays, ~venntus and I went to New Zealand!! It's such a beautiful country! We went for almost a month and already want to go back. *O*
Of course, with The Hobbit which came out just as we were there, we had to dress for the occasion! We went to Hobbiton, the movie set of The Shire in both Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, dressed as Merry and Pippin. A lot of people asked if we were headed home when they saw us dressed as hobbits heading to Hobbiton. XD
We also waltzed around Wellington as hobbits and took the LOTR tour to see the filming locations of Rivendell, Isengard and a couple of others sites.
These cosplays were a blast to wear and New Zealand is just lovely! *o* It's seriously LOTR/Hobbit land.
Cosplays and props made by each respective cosplayer~
Cosplay Construction Notes: For Merry, I sewed the vest, trousers, coat, and cloak from scratch using homemade patterns. I used suede for the vest with extra large buttons, and corduroy for the pants. Also styled the wig and added hobbit ears!
We even made our feet hairy and walked around barefoot! XD
