~~~ I finished the last of my much-belated birthday cake with some cherry-chocolate frozen yoghurt, raspberries, and blueberries. Tasty. Next, MacWorld.
~~~ My first lesson in Lapidary at the SFG&MS involves trying to make a proper cabochon out of a small, broken-edged, unevenly-thick slab of jade (marking with aluminum, diamond sawing, dopping, shaping with the array of diamond wheels in stepped grit sizes). At this point, my piece of jade is oval and heading toward dome-shaped. And my back hurts. Long ago, when I switched from walking to riding a bicycle to art school, I discovered that pedaling the bike used different muscles than walking. Similarly, I now know that the posture required for those diamond wheels uses different muscles than my usual carving work. Ouch. But I will get there.

Hi there, I've not got many in the way of watchers as it stands, but I feel this should be recorded for posterity. Hopefully it does not come across as self-indulgent. I doubt I've ever felt such a sincere lack of selfishness. It's about four in the morning. I have not slept and I have work in about two hours. Not an idea situation, granted. Yay I was shopping today with my mom and it was fun.
