If you want the truth, I need to confess
Ziva resisted the temptation to hit the wall of the elevator but couldnt help clenching her fists. She shouldnt have been late; shed just been overall slow in the morning and had somehow ended up half an hour late. Tony had shot her a slightly pitying look and told her Gibbs was down in autopsy and she should probably go and explain herself now.
Gibbs trusted her, and he was much closer to all the team than he had been a few years ago, but he could still make her feel like a teenager in high school when he wanted to. She hated apologies; they always seemed so fake, or so like feeble excuses, but sometimes she wished Gibbs would just let you say sorry and leave it at that.
The elevator dinged and she breathed in, preparing to be humiliated, and stepped out. Just as she was about to open the automatic doors to the long room of cold table

Over whether or not he witnessed a murder on a mansion floor,
While I prodded, nearly smacking, suddenly there came a cracking,
As of someone's neck snapping, snapping behind the courtroom door.
"Tis some murderer," I muttered, "whacking behind the courtroom door.
Only this and nothing more."
Ah, we linked the oft dismembered mobsters of a chic September,
Yes, the mob's each dying member spilt their guts upon the floor.
Eagerly I swished espresso on the morn I named the torso,

A wry and wise defense attorney whose office door had read 'Dior.'
Jobless here for evermore.
And the sulking, sad and witless weeping from each extra witness,
Chilled, fulfilled me, raging 'tween the jury's and the judge's snores.
Yet now to hush my unbelieving mind, standing there conceiving:
"Tis some nameless witless witness bleeding 'hind the courtroom door,

You marched into the starry night,
prepared for war beneath the moon.
You always fought for what you believed to be right,
knowing death could come to you soon.
Morning arrives and brings the sun,
and you are prepared to fire at blue.
You gaze down the barrel of your borrowed gun,
for every shot you take brings freedom closer to you.
Across the field, your brother sees
a Confederate boy behind stone.
But you take aim and fire through the trees,
and now that Union boy is gone.
At the battle's end, one soldier finds another...
a Union boy, shot in the heart...
and beside him lays your brother.

As my fellow crew members and I saw sat wearily eating our breakfasts of hardtack and coffee, the events of the last few hours raced through my mind. The day before had been fraught with tension thanks to the menace of the rebel ironclad Merrimac. No one had ever seen anything quite like her before. Armored like a turtle with metal impervious to our shelling and belching black smoke through her large smokestack, she reminded me most of the coal trains back in Pennsylvania. But the ship known to the rebels as the Virginia was instead a deadly machine of war. Our ship, the USS Minnesota, managed to avoid the Merrimac's wrath by heading for shallower waters, but we accidently grounded ourselves near the banks of the James River in the process. Fortunately, darkness fell before she could attack and she and her companions returned to port in rebel-controlled Norfolk, Virginia. We spent most of the night with th

It was hallowed ground well, is hallowed ground. Haunted ground, if anything; my grandfather always said that the spirits still fought across the land, kept the grass as bloodstained and dirty as the day those 23,000 men lost their lives.
Pick 'em up and put 'em down again and watch the miles roll on
I could see the sea of grass clear as day. Steady rain kept falling; nobody else was at the memorial this day. The only reason I was there was because of the funeral, after all, for my boss insisted that I stayed out of the office for at least another week to grieve. What he doesn't understand is that I absorb my grief within doing things. I cannot sit around in sorrow; I have to bury it in something, for I am a man of sustenance, not of idleness. What compelled me to drive over forty miles into the state of Maryland that day was far beyond even my own comprehending, however.
How many miles, how many fears

Your lips remain painted with the scars of torment
Carved so as to split with every word of speech
The glass that slices through your softened flesh
Bears the marking we know as 'Vinashuka'
And now he lies beneath the falling sand
Drowning in a world that is sinking away
Though his feet will seek the stability of ground
He finds himself caught by 'Vinashuka'
A disturbing word that rings hollow at best
For it carries the tone of a tainted solitude
A heart that has been corrupted by physical pain
Can only scream 'Vinashuka!'
How does a man know when he has gone insane?
To descend into a world where logic is naught
A moon that carries the colour of blood
Shall paint my skin with 'Vinashuka'
I have lost all sense of meaning in this place
There is no where else for my soul to flee
Caught within the whispers of delusory madness
I can only repeat Vinashuka...

PlaygroundPlayground2 years ago in Free Verse More Like This
All that autumn her ghost haunted the playground;
no wisping phantom, but strident bits and pieces
clamoring for attention - a pair of black patent
leather shoes waiting expectantly by the teeter-totter.
And Sister Teresa had to pry red woolen mittens
off the jungle gym every morning.
Jimmy Boyle kept seeing her sweater at the swings,
its green wooly arms daring him to go higher
and trying to tag him "it".
And her best friend, Jenny Black
could see the flash of her pigtails
throwing copper across the kickball field
where recess waited to swallow them.
The toys vanished from the sandbox every evening
leaving nothing but a soft trail of disappointment
in their wake -
their accusations of neglect
and longing crouched under the
maple trees, swarming with the bees.
But winter proved a discordant grave -
the protest of frozen ground
an errant melody in the schoolyard
and her shoes kept shrinking
and stumbled down the slide,
leaving a thick crust of frost
like somber tracks that said good-bye

Latios carried Blaze on his back and I carried Ralts on mine as we headed up the mountains, where Flarewhip, the keeper of the Flame Sword awaits us and Blaze's battle. Blaze leaped off of Latios and started to jog quickly. I have no idea why he's doing that. Then, as the top reaches our sight, Blaze stops in front of a small oasis. He looks down at his refection.
I slowly look over his shoulder to see his reflection, mine, Jen's, and another. It's weird, but I think the Legendary Pokemon Jirachi is here. I jerk my head backwards to see him floating in fron of us. Lstios heads over to my side. Blaze turns around to see him.
"You seek a wish, don't you?" Jirachi calmly asks Blaze. Blaze nods. He reaches his hand out and holds a star peice. Jirachi stares happily at it and accepts it from him. "Ok, what is your wish?"
"I wish to find Flarewhip and battle him," he says back. Jirachi's head jerks up with eyes wide open. He's completely shocked by his answer.

Rivalry of the Moon
I had snuck out my bedroom window and dropped to the ground on all-fours. Dashing away from my landing spot, I quickly located my bike in the moon-lit gloom. I then gripped the handle bar with hands not quite made for it and awkwardly pedaled away.
I lived in the country, on a 92 acre ranch. It was a lot of fun living there, riding horses and herding cattle. I got lots of exercise.
After pedaling past open pasture and wooded forest I reached my destination point. A large culvert under the road. I jumped off my bike, walked it over to the culvert, and climbed inside. There was my best friend, grinning at me. "There you are, Archie!" He said. "I was starting to get worried."
I grinned, my teeth glinting in the moon. "Were you really, David?"
"No," He said, also grinning. "I know you're always just fine in the dark, creepy night. Unlike me."
David was just about the minimum requirement for being brave enough to go outside in the night by himself. Besides being brave, h

But you can always see the passion burning in their eyes.
Being an artist does not always mean you're creative.
It just means that you want to create something,
And never want to give up.

History is not just names and dates. It's about people as well. But often, while studying their accomplishments and failures, the humanity of historical figures is lost. Robert E. Lee was known for his military actions, but he was more than a general. He was a man, and a complex one at that.
Called the "Marble Model" at West Point, Lee is universally remembered for his quiet dignity as well as his generalship of the Confederate army. He came from fine breeding, received superb scores and no demerits at West Point, and was admired both by his troops and Americans of generations to come. As shown in the documentary, Robert E. Lee, however, that's not all there was to him. From the moment he was born, he yearned to shine. He was a family man and a romantic who had struggled to win the heart of his wife, Mary. He was ambitious and always strove to be the best. He was a workaholic and could be organized to a fault. He hated insubordination and he could be short-tempered and frightening when

Locked in the center of my heart / All that is left is the traumatized part
Laugh, smile, blink, and focus. You just need to act as normal as possible.
You cannot let this pain get the best of you. Don't do anything irresponsible.
The damage you do to yourself also effects everyone else, so don't let it become irreversible.
You're being too hard on yourself, no one is perfect in life, you're only human, you're not invincible!
Shock waves of guilt enter my system / While a deathly peace is in the distance
And aftershocks of regret strike me down / I can't show that I'm hurt when they're around
Tremors of anxiety / Infest my entire body

Up until today I've asked for what I don't deserve

Because everyone else chooses to ignore my words
So please, please; I want you to take me, and hide me far away
I need you to do this for me; I never, ever want to be found again
Take my will, take my heart, take my tears, take my name
Take my life, take my soul, take my fear, take my pain
Pull me into you, and keep me close to your void of a heart, so I can lose myself
Hold me in your arms, and keep everything in your palms, I yearn to be held
I can no longer stay
So please take me, and hide me before it's too late
I never wanted you to know that I don't care about myself anymore
You need to know up until this day I still feel so, so hollow
It's okay, it's okay, feel my peace, I'm giving it to you, so don't worry
Because you need it more

The one you went crying to.
The one who never ran out of hugs.
The one who soaked up your tears.
The one who you carried around everywhere.
The one who always slept by your side.
He's your teddy bear.
He guards over you at night,

They come at night

Hand over the destiny I've been waiting for
Let me finish off this unbearable dirge
Weep not for singed sins
Leave behind the memories
Mourn not for scarred skin
Forgive every tragedy
Set ablaze that darkness within
Grasp onto serenity
Fuel the flame for the ending
Cling onto clarity
There's peace after pain
Calm can engulf chaos
There's love behind hate
Freedom masks weakness
I've abandoned every promise
I couldn't complete what was said
My hope cannot rise from the ashes
Please, do not follow my footprints of flame
They only lead down a path where infernos cascade
There is no honorable life or even death for what I became
Consume this cruel reality
