I do not like you, Benny-Holmes,
Though acknowledging your fine cheekbones.
I do not like your Johnlock fans,
(though rather admire gay Moriarty's plans).
I do adore your awkward Martin,
But Bilbo is his finest castin'!
Inspector Lestrade is a true silver fox,
that "Not My Division" gif everywhere rocks!
Though Lara Pulver made a gorgeous Adler,
Her character arc was a sexist disaster.
And that Black Lotus Triad Chinese ninja assassin!?
OMG, what is this, a 1950s Tintin?
'Sherlock' your plots are just clever as can be,
and a twist! the setting's twenty-twelve AD!
Still I join not in your writers' adulation,
nor, post "Reichenbach", their vituperation...
Aye, Bundersnatch is a very fine actor -
I admired his turn as Frankenstein's Monster -
But BBC Sherlock does little for me
(btw that intro? sounds a lot like Ritchie).
I cannot quite twig why exactly this is,
But this whole fangirl favourite for me does n
The DB Community Campaign #1Hurrah! Our first night running a campaign? A success! For some, this was the first time we participated in a D&D game in some time. For others, it was their first time. Everyone had a good time.
Anywho, what happened in the campaign, what was the story? How far have we gotten in the span of two hours and a half, maybe three hours if you include breaks?
First, allow me to introduce to you our dramatic personae:

Back in the 2Ks, there was a little show on Cartoon Network that was seemingly made to cash-in on the success of the anime craze at the time. This show took five out of eight superheroes from a comic series lots of people loved, especially in the 80's, and made a TV show that is now widely regarded as among the best shows produced by DC and Warner Bros. Entertainment. That show is Teen Titans, and what a show it was.
The show had it all. Teen Titans had plot, it had character depth and development, it had a good soundtrack, it had marvelous voice acting, and while the anime style may have made some people miss out on the series, many others flocked to the TV screen, hungry for more of the proverbial eye candy. But after episode 65, "Things Change", which is, for all intents and purposes, a disservice in and of itself (I'll delve into that some other
Why The Author Can't DieRemember awhile back I was talking about Lovecraft's At the Mountains of Madness? Or, more precisely, the problematic subtext - if not, at times, text - that underlines his entire bibliography? Well, I finished my re-reading of the book, all the while this very topic I'm about to lay down gestated and simmered in the back of my mind, taking form as I read every line and analyzed every contour of Lovecraft's... unique choice of language. Why The Author Can't Die6 months ago in Personal More Like This
Ladies and gentlemen, I put it to you... l'auteur ne peut pas mourir.
The topic of "Death of the Author" has always fascinated me. Its simplest definition? The writing is divorced from the writer.
Once the author has produced a body of work, it becomes a separate entity, not an extension. The argument goes that to read aspects of the author's life onto the text - to impose a biography, if you will, gleaned from his political views, personal experiences and so forth - "limits interpretation of text." Improving image composition!Sometimes the details of our illustration look great, but then when we step back and look at the composition... it's a little boring or muddy or crowded or our eyes wander away from the parts that looked so good up close... Where are our focal points? Why doesn't this illustration grab my attention and hold it? Composition can make or break a piece. Here are some links that show examples of good and bad compositions and describe why certain layouts are more successful than others. Various tips and rules are described and illustrated. How to promote your graphic novel: Part 1.For this first installment of my "How to promote..." series I'll be addressing one of the most common (and most misunderstood) aspects of the promotion game conventions. With any luck I'll help you not only get the most out of your convention experience, but also make it profitable. Yes, profitable. There is no reason conventions have to be a monetary sinkhole that creators must toss money into to get noticed. If you are willing to put in the work (and do a little math) you can almost always leave the convention hall with more money than you arrived with. For those who have not read it yet, this is a follow-up to my previous article, "So You Want To Publish A Graphic novel..." which you can read here: http://joshfinney.com/so-you-want-to-publish-a-graphic-novel/How to promote your graphic novel: Part 1.3 years ago in Personal More Like This

So, for the longest time, I've had this idea for a game. You can think of it as a mishmash of the following games, each of which nicely encapsulate certain gameplay elements I've always adored (exploration, incredible creatures, secondhand storytelling, organic storytelling, etc).
Shadow of the Colossus
Weird combination, right?
And for awhile, I couldn't figure out how to streamline the general gist into something more cohesive. That is, until I spoke to my fellow DB writers/buddies on our Skype group chat about it this morning.
I dedicate this journal to them, for helping me troubleshoot the concept, work out the kinks, and brainstorm. You guys are the best.
Now, as I've said, I love exploration. I love amazing creatures. I love both secondhand and organic storytelling. Nothing quite feels like a personalized journey in a game world like 1) havi

“(Y/n) wake up.” I groaned feeling (Y/n)’s slight weight on my chest.
“Noooo. I don’t want to.” She said burying her face deeper into my chest.
“(Y/n) if you don’t wake up then I will find your grandmother and force a bunny to eat her.” I growled.
“No not my grandma.” She cried pounding her small fists as small anime tears came out of her eyes.
“Then get up.” I growled once again.
“Fine I’m up. Sheesh.” She said. (Y/n) picked her clothes off the floor and stepped into the bathroom. If you don’t understand the situation right now (Y/n) is living with my family and me for the next few months or maybe a year. That’s because her parents were killed when she was younger and her older brother (b/n) was working abridged and no one was taking care of her. While he was gone (

I visited her.
Regardless of rain or sleet, I paid a visit to my grandmother in the old folks home. I had a heart-to-heart with her. I got down on one knee, took her hand, tears in my eyes... and I begged her to forgive me, for being a shitty grandchild. For not visiting her as often as I could, or even should.
She squeezed my hand and said, "You have nothing to be sorry for... if anything..."
She began to cry. She squeezed harder.
I knew what she meant.
We hugged and cried together. She told me the truth. She told me the truth of why she was in the home. She told me that the image I have of her, in my mind, this idealized vision... was deliberate, on her part. She cut down on the drinking and attitude around me, because I was her favourite. I was her favourite grandchild. She gave others shit - my siblings, my folks, other friends and relatives, complete strangers -, but me? Not so much.
... She didn't want me to see

So Tammy here, just wanting to post a journal and talk how things are going.
First I'd like to talk about my health. You may remember that about two months ago I posted a journal and told you I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. I've been eating the medicine now two months and I went to take the laboratory tests again a few days ago. I got some of the results already and I am happy to tell that my results are way better now! My hormone levels are not perfect yet but I already feel good and thinking that I should be feeling even better makes me excited! I'll still wait for a call from my other doctor but I think I we will agree that I'll start eating one full pill per day.
So yeah! I am feeling great! I started taking the medicine and also extra iron to raise my defence iron levels and I feel a lot more vivacious now! Normally I used to sleep till noon on weekends but now I have no problems waking up on 8 or 9 am!

Sometimes I'll assume (mistakenly) that everyone I chat with and meet online is as familiar with as many hypnotic hangouts and kinky corners of the internet as I am. Fairly often though I'll meet someone who's just getting into the hypno-scene that has never heard of MCStories or is getting their hypnotic kicks by reading the "Hypnosis" section of wikipedia.
As a result, I think it's only good and proper if I compile my list of the:

Snowball fights, snow angels, building snowmen and skating (with or without actual skates) on naturally frozen ponds and lakes. These are the universally enjoyed activities of wintertime. They are the joys that off–set the woes of the hazardous driving, the colds and flu, and the heating bills. Encourage your children to pursue their winter fun activities just as tenaciously as they do their school studies. The greater the multitude of happy winter memories banked in youth, the easier it is when the arthritis arrives, shutting us indoors, with only our colds and flu and heating bills. That’s when having the fullest possible bank of happy holiday memories is of such incalculable v

If you ask when we will see that bee… well not sure but at least you have the info ^^
Here I will post now and then some info about the reboot of the hypno hive concept.
And no I will not redraw all the bee pics.
What we so far know about the Hypno Bees:

The California surfboarder has been the symbol of youthful rebellion and non–conformal lifestyles since the 1950s. The siren call of a unique experience tinged with great danger, an ever–tempting “rush” for American males, has always made surfers and surfing the subjects of “freedom” themed photography and paintings.
But what of land–locked urban youth with no ocean access? The skateboard was originally invented by surfers to have something to do when waves were flat. It wasn’t until the 1970s that these surfboards–with–wheels took on their unique identity as a separate pastime and competi

The Three problems with how we learn art: pt.2 I've been thinking about how and why we learn to draw for a few years now. I started self-analazing my own drawing and character design thought process when I began writing my first art instruction book, "Creating Characters with Personality". It was harder than I thought to verbalize how I've learned and how I process drawing. This has led me to start looking back at my artistic life and how I learned art. What made me learn the most? What drove me to draw and stick with it? What led to others I knew as a child to stop drawing? I think I'm ready to present some of those thoughts here on DA and hear what you think. This is part 2 of three in a series. I'm not sure where this is leading, but step one is my establishing an online art instruction school called Taught ByA PRO (http://taughtbyapro.com) that will (in phase one) concentrate on drawing instruction for all forms of media. This summer, you can just take your child to see Tomorrowland.
Mind you, I am open to the possibility this movie could actually subvert any Objectivist leaning and perhaps become a critique, showing what would happen if a society of the "best and brightest" abandoned the rest of humanity for selfish reasons and continued to mire in their selfishness. In other words, if it absolutely became something like a g-rated version of BioShock, illustrating the logical extreme of such a society (in which said society utterly collapsed upon itself).

You want to get better at representational art.
Here on deviantart its often the case where a noobie will ask a question and another noobie will answer with the very uninspired answer of "practice practice practice." At its core this advice is sound, but the noobie-teacher has just regurgitated what he or she has heard a thousand times over from other would-be noobie-teachers and has not expressed much else. Diligence is the key, but without a direction or goal this diligence might be

To me those men didn't mean that much, they never brought me anything.
On November 28th, 2 weeks ago, somebody very close to me passed away. Somebody who also meant a lot to this group.
Danny Wells, was a Canadian movie and television actor and voice actor. He taught me a lot, he was a childhood hero of mine and he was a big part of my growing love for Luigi.
Danny Wells, born Jack Westelman was the actor who played Luigi in the old school Television show of the Super Mario Bros 'Super Show'. He played both Luigi in the live action segments and also voiced the animated character.
Rest In Peace Danny Wells, at the very least, you meant something to me...to this group.

Any of you who have read my journals for some time will have find out by now that I'm an atheist. Initially raised Catholic, I eventually renounced the faith thanks to a healthy scientific curiosity that compelled me to - perhaps - an unhealthy amount of research, moral disgust after reading the Bible front to cover, and simple skepticism. The amount of abuse I received at the hands of my religion for my being... "different," likely helped.
I've long held science as infinitely superior to religion, that the real miracles are in the laws of nature and how manipulating those laws could make, say, a certain carpenter of Nazareth, a former Prince of Egypt and a bearded sky tyrant obsolete. What's walking on water compared to the moon landing of 1969? What's the Red Sea compared to the Hubble Telescope? What're the Plagues of Egypt compared to the discovery
How To Photograph Your CraftsThe absolute number one cause of rejection of DD suggestions for most Artisan Craft CVs is poor photography. There is nothing worse than seeing an otherwise brilliant piece ruined by a dodgy photo. But even beyond DD acceptance, if you want to people on dA to be able to appreciate your skill you need to be able to show your work off to advantage. How To Photograph Your Crafts2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Sometimes I'll tell a self-suggester that I can't feature their work because of the quality of the photography and they'll inevitably reply, "Oh, I'll have to get a better camera."
Repeat after me: the tools never make the artist.
You don't need a $9000 sewing machine to stitch a dress, you don't need a $1000 stand mixer to bake a cake, and you similarly don't need a top of the range SLR to take a brilliant photograph. It's all in how you take the photo.
To help us understand photography concepts a little more, Fella is going to help us out. Say hi Fella!
