Adoptables, Writing an Artist's DescriptionA Good DescriptionAdoptables, Writing an Artist's Description3 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Concerning adoption, a good description is always needed. It informs the purchaser about everything they need to know about the character and the adoption itself.
Basics of a Good Description:
Use proper grammar
A lot of deviants are *not* native english speakers and all the english they know is what they have been taught in school so try to use proper grammar. Talking and writing are not the same thing, 'your' and 'you're' do not mean the same thing and should *not* be written in the same way. Some mistakes or 'typos' can always happen, but as long as most of your writing is correct, the odd mistake is forgivable.
Unless you're a writer working on a stream of consciousness, periods and commas are not optional. (And remember that the first letter after a period is always capitalized)
No walls of text
Writing every sentence after the other without leaving spaces ever so often is

Create a new account
This is not necessary, per se, but if you have in mind to do more than just one or two sheets of adoptables, it might be a good idea to start a new account. This way you won't spam your watchers' inbox, if they're not interested in adoptables, and you can organize your gallery in a better way.
Be a member of Adoptables Groups
dA is a big community and the sheer amount of new deviations every day makes it hard for your art to be seen. Considering that you just made a new account for your adoptables, you have basically no watchers whatsoever so how can you get the exposure you need to sell your characters? The answer is join Adoptables Groups. By doing this you can do two things, the first is submit your adoptables to their gallery and advertise them, the second is observing the trends, what people like to draw and buy more.
Artist ConfessionsI was talking with a friend recently and it made me think about things. Maybe this isn't the place for a post like this but DA is really the only online site I use so I have no other output.Artist Confessions2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I will start off by saying that DA is a really great site. I've had so many wonderful experiences on this site and met many people that I'm so thankful for knowing. The support I've received has been amazing, and when I joined, I never thought in a million years that I'd have the amount of followers I do or that people would like my art to the extent they do. It's remarkable and gives me a wonderful feeling.
Unfortunately, I've also noticed some alarming trends in recent years. I'm not sure if it's just me but I feel like the internet is becoming a place of increased 'meanness'. It's not necessarily that people are becoming meaner; it's more that the internet makes it easy for people to anonymously post hurtful things towards artists/people they dislike for whatever reason (it removes our inhibitio

Reading up David Hume's texts on "Problems of Induction" inspired me to compile an essential list pertaining to systematic workings of (canon) Sherlock Holmes in my personal journal, and :iconwindmaedchen: encouraged me to share it here; so here we are.
Let's face it: I'm not a criminal investigator. Far from it! However, especially because I'm more of an artist, writer, literature lover and conceptionist, the philosophy of logic appeals to me as much as the philosophy of... well, everything! I've compiled the following list of self-applied codes of Sherlock Holmes -- a character imagined by the ingenious writer, physician and logician, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle -- from the canon, of certain axioms and theories to consider in contemplation and practice. These comma
Art in Contemplation of Its Own BecomingDuchamp finds a discarded urinal. He alters it (by signing a name to it not even his own, but obviously “the artist’s”) and names it “The Fountain”. The most mundane, even off-putting, of objects is transformed by Duchamp into art. He submits it for exhibition and it is rejected. You might say the judges “pissed on” his idea. But the idea was born and persisted. Duchamp insisted the object was art because he as an artist presented it as such. “Conceptual Art” was born.Art in Contemplation of Its Own Becoming3 years ago in Personal More Like This

Every year is like a chapter of our lives.
The object of a new year is not a celebration of a new year, nor having a new number displaying in our callendar but it is where we should have a new soul.
To sit down and think over how to improve up our lives.
Also is not a day to cry out loudly how our past year was unsuccessful and impatiently wait when it will be over, start a new, but to learn who we are and how we can move forward.
I'm not here to wish a good New Year Eve since it's not the only day which will decide how our new year will be like… however what I truly wish you guys lots of joy for every day for this year, as well for next year- regardless what is the day or what's happening. Every day is a miracle and a proof of our existence.
Smile to yourself while looking at your image reflected by mirror and don't be shy to say "I love you" to yourself. And lots of love to all livings forms, animals and nature and less interest to mater

How To Photograph Your Paintings
In this article I want to discuss a common problem that some traditional artists have. That's photographing your paintings. Whether it be for selling prints or just getting your art noticed online the importance of having paintings look great is key. If your fortunate enough to have a scanner for smaller pieces then that's great! But if your working on large canvases or paper then you can run into issues. The most common problem artists have are Glare, Blur and Color. All of which will be discussed in this article.
Anyone who has worked with acrylics and oils knows what a problem this can be when your trying to take a picture of a painting. This is not as much a issues for a artist working with watercolors

For those who need a refresher, GrimFace242 say, "A write in is when we're all in the chat, but working on our own writing at the same time. Like word wars, but without the timer or need for a word count. It's mellow and laid back. But if you need an assist, there are peoples in the chat to help you out." It encourages socializing, and writing progress. There are no rules and it's a friendly atmosphere, which makes it a great opportunity to work and get to know other writers. :

So I was just stopped by a cop....I wasn't driving. I was walking. He drives up, rolls down the window, and says something I don't quite hear. I say hello. He repeats it. "How old are you?"So I was just stopped by a cop....2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I'm in shock. I ask, "How OLD am I?"
"I'm 29!!" (I'm sure I sounded incredulous.)
I say, "I have my license if you want to see it." He wants to see it so I give it to him. He looks and hands it back.
He thought I was a highschool truant.
The moral of the story is that I should stop wearing clothing a teenager might wear because as I continue to get older and not to age it will become more and more unbelievable that I am as old as I say I am and I don't look forward to being driven in the back of a police car to the nearest high school, in tears BECAUSE I HAVE ALREADY DONE MY TIME!

The daily life of a Wolfaboo. Please read before reading the rest of the text below:The daily life of a Wolfaboo.3 years ago in Personal More Like This
After seeing the amount of wolfaboos on places such as deviantART, YouTube, Facebook etc, I thought it would be interesting to try and reconstruct the life of the average wolfaboo and get an insight to just how arrogant and pathetic these uneducated people are. Another thing to point out is that the text below is written in decent-enough English, and that a wolfaboo would rarely, if ever, type/ write like that, just so you know.
The daily life of a Wolfaboo...
Saturday morning. I woke up and saw it was 11:00am, but I remembered that having the wolf as my inner animal meant I had to stay up late last night and howl at the moon when my mother had gone out. I growled and stretched like a wolf would, because after all, I am a wolf, right? I looked at all my wolf books and stories all over my messy bedroom. I saw my Wolf's Rain DVDs, and I sighed with happiness. It was all true. Wolves really can leap at very high altitude, have a pa

We accept other applications, however, you will go through an rp test and test your creativeness in character and writing. Applications are also judged based on:
- Quality, because it's only a mascot and weapon, we'll go through your gallery to look at your humans+bg skills and see if you're able to handle the missions to come.
- Correctness, if you make big and obvious mistakes as if you didn't read our rules AT ALL, you'll be automatically rejected without provided reason.
- Writing, though it's not a big part since we're a art group, we still like to read pretty writing
If you have a friend you'd like to invite into the group, comment or note to us and we'll consider the invitation. They'll still be judged on art and writing samples if they have it. Just note that one their accepted, they have 2 months to finish their application, failure to meet the deadline will resul
Why would a loving God send someone to hell?takirkpatrick from Twitter, reposted by a friend on Facebook -Why would a loving God send someone to hell?2 years ago in Personal More Like This
The question is not "Why would a loving God send someone to hell?"
The question is "Why would anyone choose hell over a loving god?"
Nonsense. As a Christian, you must believe that God created hell and indeed the capacity to do evil. It's part of the divine plan for billions of people to grow up and encounter such information during their lives that they would "choose" hell. For example me, since I encountered critical thinking. It now dictates to me that the bronze age literature is laughably unconvincing, demonstrably self-contradicting, and is frankly barbaric. The justifications religion uses for various laws are nothing more than an argument from authority - a logical fallacy in itself - and a flawed one at that! Arguments from authority only work if the party being convinced respects that authority. Needless to say, even the existence of god (not merely respect for him) is not something anyone should just take for gr
