What is a Daily Deviation?
The Daily Deviation is a daily feature chosen from the galleries here on deviantART.
A small assortment of submissions are chosen each day by a select group of staff/volunteer members who wish to showcase an image which they found impressive or otherwise interesting enough to deserve being brought to the attention of the community-at-large.
The staff/volunteer members responsible for selecting submissions for the daily feature often are open to suggestions and individual community members may direct their attention by noting the appropriate Community Volunteer or staff member with a direct link to the deviation which you are suggesting and a brief description about why you think the work in question should be featured.

Sans serif — Italics & weights
In the previous article of the typography series I presented some of the basic principles of type design and we started designing a geometric sans typeface such as Futura. In this article we will expand that typeface and add italics and alternate weights. Or rather, I will show you how to design italics and briefly present how you can modify your regular weight typeface to create alternate weights rather than having to re-draw the whole letter.

Serif — Roman
In the last two article of the type design series we made a geometric sans serif and added italics and a bold weight. The geometric sans serif is the easiest style to do, but for me personally things really get interesting with serif typefaces. Of course there is the addition of serifs, but the structure and weight distribution is also much more advanced. In this article I will make an introduction to designing serif typefaces. This article won’t be as detailed as the previous ones because this third article serves as an expansion on the first two. In other words, I won’t get into the basic vector tools or type principles, nor will I show you how to design the letters step by step. I will explain techniques in detail when necessary, but generally I will refer to the techniques described in the first article particularly. So if necessary go back to the pre

I would assume as long as you have the dependencies met it should work but this is just a guess. As Always make sure to back up your stuff before trying anything new like this!

Sans serif — Roman
In this article/tutorial I will show you how to design a typeface. I will cover the basics and show you how to design advanced letters as well. There is so much I can talk about though, so if people like this article I might expand on this with future articles and get more into detail. I will only cover the design though, so you will have to research how to do the spacing and programming and turn your typeface into a usable font—or wait until I might do an article on that as well, but I don’t have such an article planned anytime soon.
What will we design?
I will first show you how to design some basic letters for a geometric sans typeface like Futura, because it utilizes geometric shapes, which is always my starting point for every typeface regardless of style. O
Rainmeter Workshop: Autoscaling and YouI've been beating my head against a wall working on a new suite. The hardest, and most tedious thing has been making the skins resizable. It involves a lot of simple math, and trial and error. Over the course of the next few Workshops I'm going to share some of the things that I've learned about resizing skins, as well as other cool things to do with position formulas and dynamic variables. They'll start off pretty basic and work towards more complicated topics.Rainmeter Workshop: Autoscaling and You4 years ago in Personal More Like This
I keep seeing taskbar skins that fit only one specific desktop resolution. It's possible to make a skin fit any resolution, and usually it's fairly simple. A decent grasp on simple algebra, geometry and arithmetic helps greatly though. The taskbar below fits any resolution. I'm assuming that you're somewhat familiar with Rainmet
Design tips: Typography Avoid the use of the font Optima, particularly for luxury or similarly "fancy" types of clients. It looks generally dated and plain.Design tips: Typography2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Try not to pair different sans-serif fonts (ex: Arial and Helvetica), but if you do, do not use fonts that are similar. The key is to use fonts that are distinctly different, such as a condensed sans for headlines and regular sans like Helvetica or Verdana for subheads or body copy. If you use two that are similar, it will look like you mistakenly didn't update all your text with the same font.
If you want to pair a serif font with a sans-serif or vice versa, there are 3 options you should use to make your decisions:
1) Select fonts made by the same typographer, or
2) Select fonts made around the same time period, or
3) Select fonts with similarly shaped characters
(Note: The reason why the rules may be different between pairing serif/sans-serif fonts and pairing two sans-serif fonts is that serif fonts have ex
How to (sort of) get Truetransparency on Win7A lot of people ask me how to make TrueTransparency play nice with Windows 7.How to (sort of) get Truetransparency on Win74 years ago in Personal More Like This
The short answer is: You can... well sort of.
Here are the general problems (I'm going to assume people with Win7 are on the 64-bit version, or Win7 x64).
1) Explorer windows are not skinned (or any 64-bit programs for that matter).
2) Explorer windows skin, but the toolbar is completely transparent.
First, you will need both TrueTransparency x86 and x64.
For your convenience, here is a zip with both (x64 can be hard to find): http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7100381/TrueTransparency.zip
To skin all windows, you will need to run both the TrueTransparency.exe in the TrueTransparency x64 AND TrueTransparency x86 folders.
At this point, all windows should be skinned (with the exclusion of "special" windows like Google chrome, Command Prompt, GIMP/Photoshop, Task Manager, etc.
You may notice that the explorer toolbar is completely transparent. There are two workarounds for this.
One involves removing the too

Lumi, a first previewHey ! :]Lumi, a first preview3 years ago in Personal More Like This
So I've made some new changes on Lumi, my future Visual Style for Windows 7. It will continue to change in some details, and it's certainly not over yet, different parts are still the one from Soft7.
Anyway here's the actual result :
White isn't it ? ^^
My main ideas were :
more "minimal", less transparent, and add a tiny color.
The window on top left is active, the others are inactive (mainly a difference in the shadow, but the windows themselves are a bit more transparent).
The "Yes" button is hovered, like the Music icons. The DVD drive is selected
I believe the caption buttons are too subtle right now, and I'm still trying to do a nice hover effect, subtle but visible.
It includes the new icons on the Navigation Pane, obviously based on the icons in Mac OS Lion, entirely made from scratch (all of them) with the subtle blue of the theme.
By the way, don't get it wrong, I hardly have time to play all t

IMPORTANT : IF YOU DO THIS WITH AN OLD VERSION, IT WILL HAVE SOME BIG RENDERING PROBLEMS !!!!!!
Follow these steps :
1) Download latest beta (v2 beta 2) from http://fav.me/d5h2q4r and unzip it
2) Go to the folder called "lockscreen" or "start"
3) Open index.html with notepad
4) Paste the following code after the title tag:
5) Save as index.hta
DON'T FORGET TO CHANGE THE FILE TYPE TO "ALL FILES"
6) Open index.hta
7) Enjoy !!
You might get some script errors, or some small rendering problems, that's because it uses IE rendering engine.
1M Downloads & GithubThis day marks a special milestone of achievement for the developers of Omnimo. A humble project that started almost two years ago reached one million downloads today. Most of you probably don't know that this project was supposed to be much smaller. When I came up with the early concept in the middle of March, I intended it to have approximately 12 panels and several text items.1M Downloads & Github3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Omnimo: The Beginning
Nothing more. However, shortly after the concept, Xyrfo joined the project. And with our combined passion and ambition, as well as with some help from others, we managed to create the biggest Rainmeter suite ever. Xyrfo did some amazing stuff for the project. Things without which it would just remain but a dream of a madman. But he did it! For that, he deserves no less recognition than I do.
And of course, we would like to thank the community for all the support! You guys are awesome! Nothing motivates doing a project better than to see people use and enjoy the product. W

Of Angels and Demons Vol. 1
“Hush, my friends. Let me tell you of those gods whose lore has left our lands, of the long–dead songs of angels and demons; let your hearts brave the ill–luck of broken vows and breathe the influx of borrowed spells. Walk with me on the winds of a victory of kings, and tell me now: whose flock will be crushed under the blow of defeat? Will you bathe in the white solace of the banners of salvation, or burn in the fiery fire of the warriors of damnation?”

StarCraft II is the hot tournament videogame that just may breakthrough as the harbinger of the esports phenomenon and one of the great cultural game-changers of all time.
Midnight in Anaheim. Caffeinated casters boom rapid fire commentary rattling the packed hall. Elite Starcraft players from around the globe execute complex strats that would have made Rommel the Desert Fox himself proud. 20,000 are in attendance, on the edge of their seats, and cheering as loudly as any soccer match as they watch the 30-foot screens hanging from the rafters. Another four and a half million are watching the streams live. The feeling is that of an NCAA Final Four game, set in a European soccer stadium, somehow shoehorned into a casino showroom in Las Vegas. It’s all of the skill, the fan devotion and the spectacle anyone could pos
When did we decide that......the best way to view a GUI is on an angle, mocked up on an iPhone screen, with epically shallow depth of field? When did we decide that...2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I don't care whether or not it's an app designed FOR the iPhone. If you take a photo of an iPhone on an angle with low DoF, absolutely ANYTHING will look good on it, even a pure white screen. I shit you not. The details and reflections in the phone's body make up at least 90% of the visual satisfaction, completely taking focus away from the actual GUI. "But it shows how it would look in the real world." No mate it doesn't. My human eyes don't have the DoF of an expensive Canon macro lens, nor do I use my phone holding it at a 45 degree angle, and sat in the middle of a professionally lit photography studio. When I buy food, I don't need to see a picture of somebody eating it.
On the flip side to making otherwise hideous designs look like the most amazing thing ever, a photo mock up also makes truly beautiful design look like crap. If you've spent days on end hammering away
Draw Me!?Hey Everybody!!Draw Me!?1 year ago in Personal More Like This
So I think it's about time I made this post.
A lot of you have asked this question: Can I draw you?
And to that I say YESSSS (as long as it's not vulgar or porn)
You are allowed to:
draw, paint, sketch or use my poses as inspiration no problem,
But please let me know when you do and please credit me as the model (link to my DA page would be nice!)
You are not allowed to do (WHATSOEVER):
any photo manipulation, retouching or use my image on a product (specially if you benefit money-wise from it)
All drawings of me will go into my favorites and from time to time I will be featuring the art in my journals
To all those who have already drawn me, thank you very much
Makes me smile everytime and I'm always impressed by your work and honored to have inspired you.
Here are the art works of me that I have found so far!
If I missed any of you let me know!
PS: This is not a critique journal, this is to honor the artist that were so kind to tak the time and d

If you're new to Stash, find out more about it here: http://devbug.deviantart.com/journal/Stash-215498179
The latest changes: Sta.sh is now a separate section of the deviantART Network - with its own header, and its own look.
Here's a sneak peek!
"Stash" no longer exists on your Submit menu, but instead can be gotten to one of two ways:
You can pick "Sta.sh" from your main profile menu.. next to Logout and Settings
Or, you can type http://sta.sh into your address bar
Note: to switch back to deviantART, pick the "deviantART" item from the Sta.sh main menu.

Photography Troubleshooting: How to work with MistGetting the camera out, and the scarf, hat and gloves, and heading into a misty morning or hazy evening can result in the best kind of photographs. Atmospheric, moody and ultimately a fine example of whatever current season you're in - these kinds of shots present themselves at awkward moments so it's vitally important to be prepared. In previous years I've got up at the crack of dawn and ventured out with all the excitement of a young child on their first day of school - only to come home with a grazed knee and broken felt tip pens. Fog is a popular mist - we often get confused and just term it all as fog or all as mist. It's not quite like that. It's all about the visibility, if we can see less than 1km through it then it's fog. If we can see between 1 - 2 km then it's mist. So when is the best time to catch these ground level clouds at their best? Fo

SoapyHamHocks and I started working on Stratiform 4.0 a fair while back but we hit many setbacks including time availability and personal stuff. That plus this is essentially a complete rewrite of Stratiform in every sense.
Check out the screenshots to get a feel for the new UI and options. This new version works quite a bit differently to what you've used in the past but it is much more flexible and just a better platform for us to develop from. It's safe to say there's nothing out there quite like this add-on right now.
