On the Sea Beneath the SkyGolden flickers danced on the pale faces of the circle, hushed whispers wafting out from the gathering by the glowing coals. It was the third night of the coming-of-age, the no-longer-little ones from each of the surrounding tribes taken out together in the openness of the untamed world. There were a few in the group that stood out, discernible even in the thick coverings of the night. There was Jiu-yeil, son of the carpenters, impressive form already bulging with strength and muscle more fitting of a man twice his size. The brothers, Senniare and Elieten of cloth-maker, sat donned in simple but the finest of all their travelling robes. And very slightly apart from the throng of a dozen others was the quiet Meiella, orphaned as an infant, niece of medicine woman.
The air was cool, but the wind only light. As the flames burned low, a tall figure stepped out of the shadowsOch'jiana, the leader of the rite. She was neither old nor young, hair pulled back in the habit of the femal

pull up a chair to your kitchen table
i'll watch you nibble on your bottom lip
as you furiously try to scrub every last inch
not a bird, nor a plane:
just a shooting star.
just a meteor that will one day orbit right back around and smash our planet into smithereens
(i can only think that that might have been your wish)
so bleach the sand from your table, try all you want
smash meteors into the hundred year old surface
(so it blows to smithereens)

Turn the gray
Into a bright, vibrant landscape.
Illuminate the darkness
Create a beautiful world
With my mind.
I would be satisfied
If I could make
Just one square inch of the earth
A gust of calamity shall sweep across the earth.
Each creation will be seen in it's true light.
I wish to create beautiful things
Though it may be sad
Driven by anger,
It is also driven by
And a never-dying hope

of strange phenomenon,
reflected in your eyes
were kaleidoscope colours;
remnants of that dream
we chased not long ago,
do you remember that day?
that day we lay on our backs,
tall green swaying grass, eyes lost
in the endless indigo of midnight skies
seeking undiscovered mystery
our entwined thoughts sprouted wings,
yet instead of skies
we dived into deep blue seas,
swimming in the wake of red-tailed fishes,
we just danced among the orange coral reefs
on our hips and hearts,
following the curves
and sweet memories of violet

with a smile, i wrap my arms around the frail neck of a paper crane.
delicately it flies, higher and higher, until we soar among the diamonds.
together, we breathe in the colours of light and swim in an ocean of stars.
at the edge of life, i take to the sea. my heart locked in a paper boat,
folded and wrapped ever so gently along my fragile limbs.
i'm only a fragment of the world, sailing upon the waves of life.
unknown and unaware of where the current will lead.
with your soul my only compass, i cling to my true north.
my only destination. i know you'll

I missed your warm breezes touch
I missed the green grass you had
Seeing snow makes me feel sad
I have missed the birds chirping
I have missed the bees lurking
I have longed to see a rose
It's scent rising in my nose
The sound of your rivers
Makes my heart stop its quivers
Where ever are your blue skies
I pray for winter's demise
Reminding me of a thief
Each year this repeats
Fall takes my summer away
Oh I just wish spring would stay

I am fine now."
I can see the wolves clearly now in my head
Licking their jowls for the feast to come
Sorry, I guess I lied
But it's just small and white
Just like yours were...
"...I am over it now."
You hit me like a wave of anguish, washing away my hopes
Washing away my dreams
Twisting my spirit up into a knot
They can't be untied now
Those knots you tied into my every string...
"...I am fine now."
Those pained feelings reverberating in me
Time and time again I find
My mind running back to when you-
It is my fault for offering my head to the chopping block
-And you chopped.
Who can blame you for reaping what you sowed?
And still, I don't want to lose my grasp on what little is left...

When I started walking to the door uncontrollably
I got inside and started wondering and looking around
Then I saw God appreciating an art piece right next to me
I stuttered and asked him in disbelief what he was doing there
He told me he was appreciating art, so I asked him about the wars
He asked me back 'what about the wars?' and I just couldn't believe him
'You should enjoy art instead of killing each other' he said and walked away

there's a clitter-clatter
whirl of a girl with limbs
and she speaks in boxes
her bones clap like an audience
as she grinds her shoulders
and wiggles her fingers
and plays prelude in e minor
for the whole wide world to hear
(she doesn't even really like the song.
she just likes the way the composer's name
sounds in her mouth.)
ghosts slide underneath her nail beds
her bloody, bleeding, bitten nail beds
and when she goes to sleep at night
they crawl out and tangle themselves
right between her shoulder blades
and round her rib cage
and embed themselves in everything
she had ever grown to love.
"these bones are haunted,"
she mutters to herself
as she combs poltergeists
and demons out of her hair,
"these bones are haunted
and there is
nothing you can do."

The SnowIf you spent your whole life travelling the world, tasting exotic foods, drinking foreign wine and living in extraordinary places, you would never come across a place quite like Aeveryn. To the traders that pass with their loaded carts or the road-weary travellers who stop in for a night, it seems nothing more than another of those ordinary little settlements that spring up around the place, big enough to thrive and grow but small enough that everyone to know everyone else and every new arrival founds themselves friends of the whole town within days. But what held Aeveryn apart, were its stories. Every town has them, but for Aeveryn it was different. Starting from a single raconteur, one could spread in a single day, and by the end of the week every child will have heard it with rapt attention and every adult be reciting it with their own vivacious retelling. Instead of slowly fading away into dusty memory, each tale would stay alive and so, generations later, parents wouThe Snow3 years ago in Short Stories More Like This

Under my surrendering tongue
As I laid upon my bed as my pen laid stroke after stroke
The ink stains dripped into my veins
As I looked out the window to see the night
Shimmering in with white bright lights
They added to the blackest ink my bottle held
In the night of nature's once forbidden realm
I folded the parchment in my rightward hand
Stamped it with life's elegant symbol and forward grandeur
As I watched it float away into the darkness
Waiting to find the lover to which it was sent
