My favorite ART suppliesI get asked a lot what pens and pencils I use. So I thought I'd post an updated list of my favorites. I'm a big fan of trying new things, I'm always buying lots of different pens to try out and in my search for the best tools to use for creating comics Ive found these to work the best for my needs. My favorite ART supplies3 years ago in Personal More Like This
My number one question that others ask me is "What do you ink with?"
I use Kuretake brush pens. Here's a link to a sable hair brush pen that I love, it's the closest thing to a real brush I've used. It is pricey though. http://www.jetpens.com/Kuretake-No.-40-Fountain-Hair-Brush-Pen-Sable-Hair-Refill/pd/3958
The less expensive version is the synthetic hair, http://www.jetpens.com/Kuretake-No.-13-Fountain-Hair-Brush-Pen-Red-Body/pd/2661 this brush pen is similar to a Pentel brush pen. http://www.jetpens.com/Pentel-Pocket-Brush-Pen-for-Calligraphy/pd/1793
The cool thing about these Kuretake brush pens is the refill cartridges have nice ink in them that I use, but if you find you don't like the
Tools of the TradeHey guys. I figured I'd go ahead and do a FAQ journal entry. Just a basic list of the tools I'm currently using for my marker work. I have a new tutorial for my markers that I'll post when I'm able to share the art I used for the progress shots. Feel free to fire away with any questions and hopefully, this can be a go to guide for basic info on my tools. I'm not going to talk about oil painting materials as I'm still figuring all that out and I doubt an answer I give today will hold up in the future.Tools of the Trade2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Ok Here goes...
Markers: Prismacolor Cool and French grey markers. I think "Copic" has become another word for "marker" these days, so it's assumed that I'm using Copics for all of my work, but I actually use Prismacolor for all of my figures and detail work and only use Copic markers for backgrounds. I use to use "Warm" greys but I like the sepia look of French more now. I also occasionally use Copic color markers when I'm doing a full color marker piece. Why do I like Prismacolor markers
Mini-Tutorial de como personalizar tu dA.Hola! Hoy decidí hacer un mini-tutorial para aquellas personas nuevas en deviantART o las que simplemente nunca han escuchado que se podía hacer esto. Bueno, Aquí va:Mini-Tutorial de como personalizar tu dA.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Ej: < strike > OLA KE ASE
Le sacas los espacios y te queda:
OLA KE ASE

I had no idea I was being so bitter - but when I thought about it I had to concede the point. And that made me start wondering why - Why did I feel so angry about the UK? What was my problem?
But here's the thing - Some 14 years ago I couldn't get any work. We had just had baby no.2, and I had done a run on 'Spawn: the Dark Ages', and had been suddenly replaced, along with the rest of the team on the book, because McFarlane wanted 'a change of direction'. And then there was literally no work. I went to NY to see DC and Marvel, but they had nothing. I pitched company after company, to no avail. I tried to get on illustration agency books, but was refused by all of them. I tried children's book publishers, Core Design, and other computer game companies. Nobody wanted me. Even Frank Frazetta criticized my art in his book 'Icon' - just to add insult to injury!
We ended up having to sel

F**k-ugly watermarks.I follow a lot of insanely talented artists here on DA, people whose work I look at in sheer awe and whose skill I can only dream of one day matching.F**k-ugly watermarks.1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Unsurprisingly, that high quality of work leads to them either having their work ripped off or operating in fear of that happening. They, quite rightly, want to protect their art with a watermark, something which I'm not against at all.
What I am against, what I hate, is people using that god-awful DA watermark.
If you are a good artist: don't be a lazy git. Make your own watermark, use your own logo. You'll protect your work without doing it the disservice of having some automatically-generated arse-smear ruining it.
2014 Werewolf moviesWolfcop2014 Werewolf movies3 months ago in Personal More Like This
As the year draws to a close, let's take a look at the werewolf movies released in 2014.
Seven werewolf movies have been released in 2014, a surprising number for a creature that's usually ignored in favor of serial killers, zombies, vampires, found footage ghosties and other creeps that are a bit easier on the special effects budget. The plots don't seem to go anywhere new, following the usual tropes such as hapless schmucks getting picked off one by one and regular joes contracting lycanthropy and suddenly having to cope with bloodlust and body hair. With the exception of When Animals Dream the werewolves themselves when actual characters are white, hetero, relatively youthful and reasonably well-off males. No new ground is being broken, but that's pretty much par for the course with werewolf flicks. Admittedly, it takes lowered expectations (and sometimes a lobotomy) to enjoy the genre. For every genuine classic like Ginger Snaps

’Tis The Season
Every year our minds and souls embrace a period of giving, a time when we think of others and spend time with family and friends. For many though there is no time off. They have to work or are on emergency standby to help those who have accidents.
Then there are those who have nothing to share, no money to buy gifts, who can only give the love in their hearts to others. Those are the greatest gifts.
We all know someone that could do with some love this season. Knock on a door or make a phone call, share a meal or just make someone a cup of tea and listen to their stories. We will all benefit from giving others a little of our time.
The 10 CommandmentsHello esteemed colleagues! This blog is particularly targeted to those of you who are considering pursuing a career in an art/creative field and those of you who are in art school as well. If you're not doing either of those things, the concepts here are good general advice for anything you're striving for, so definitely hang around and read on!The 10 Commandments2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
These '10 Commandments' were formulated by curator/artist/designer/entrepreneur/amazinginlyawesomehumanbeing Sergio Gomez. I had the opportunity of going to a lecture of his a few months back and it was very inspiring. So without any further ado, here they are!
10. You shall be PATIENT and CONSISTENT
One of the biggest lies you can tell yourself is that you will be an overnight success. Like any skill set, developing your artwork will take time. This is the same when looking for ways to advance your career, it won't fall into your lap. You must be earnest in looking for opportunities to show and sell your work, you

As some of you people know, I am a fan of Kill La Kill and have been riffing on the "uniforms" of the rebel group Nudist Beach with crossover characters.
As you can see from the recruiting poster, there is a basic uniform design but you can customize it - as I have - for the various characters I have drawn.
Even the 4 Devas have their very own version of a Nudist Beach uniform so there really aren't any limits except that you can't technically be wearing clothes - you can only wear accessories such as hats, belts, straps, s

Glamour porn? Sorry guys, but this time I am very upset.Glamour porn?1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I'm a member since ten years and in the past we had a first site with many creative works and awesome artists!
Now I can see just vagina and breast shots with a very bad quality and I guess that's a huge problem!
And that's also a problem from every other art platform in the internet!
When I upload a "glamour portrait" my work is in the middle of "spread your legs open" works and I am very sad when I see the quality.
I love Deviantart and know this site since the first day (from my beloved friend).
I use this site as board for my own works, for other artists and people.
I struggle with myself if I really want to publish my works on this platform any longer.
(No worries, I wouldn't leave, I would create a new private account or use my writer account, cause I have so many great friends here).
It would be a pity but as a model you always have to confront yourself with all the differen

I promise the people that said all that: I’m just as paranoid and untrusting of the world as you guys, which is why I question everything before opening my mouth.
There is constant talk of conspiracy and media manipulation, and I believe that it does occur, but it is not as long lasting as it was prior to the dawn of the digital age. In the past, information could be controlled very easily, but now, with everyone who owns a phone being a potential source of news, the truth will surface much faster. Lies are now exposed within hours, not decades.
Within the comments of a recent deviation I made mention of how I assess information, but it probably go lost so I shall repeat it here: I don’t just look at one news source, I study three. The BBC, RT a

Octavia Butler the Slayer of Stereotypes…
How many times have artists been dismissed or discouraged because of someone else interpreting their audacity as egotism? Octavia Butler started writing science fiction because of the film Devil Girl From Mars. Don’t misunderstand–she wasn’t inspired by the movie, she knew that she could write a better story.
Growing up in Pasadena, California, Butler was shy and introverted. She preferred writing stories over socializing. When she was twelve years old she saw Devil Girl From Mars, and began writing science fiction in an effort to do the genre some justice.
In the end she succeeded by leaps and bounds. Butler’s work is recognized as groundbreaking, not least of all b
SPECTRE returns.Holy f**k! I didn’t see this one coming! The next James Bond film is called “Spectre”.SPECTRE returns.3 months ago in Personal More Like This
For those not in the know; SPECTRE was the villainous organisation that was constantly trying to trigger World War 3 in the early Bond movies and pretty much every super-villain that 007 was sent out to stop was a member of the SPECTER hierarchy. At the top of this criminal network was the shadowy figure known only as “Number One”, who, after a multi-film build-up, personally introduced himself to Bond (and the audience) during You Only Live Twice as Ernst Stavro Blofeld.
Now, the last anyone saw of Blofeld was when Roger Moore dropped him down a chimney, and SPECTRE was never mentioned again because of an ongoing squabble over ownership of the name. During Daniel Craig’s tenure as Bond, an underworld organisation identical to SPECTRE was hinted at but, disappointingly, named “Quantum”. More disappointingly, despite being really rather goo

A line that is all I can hear when I look at the recently released photo of Ben Afflicted as he will be seen in Superman 2: The Quest for More Money.
I'm not gonna refer to him as "Batman" when discussing that movie. He's Ben Affleck. It's Superman Vs Ben Affleck, now.
(Edit: My problem isn't the costume. The costume is ace. It's the person wearing it.)

SORRY IT'S TAKING SO LONG!! USPS raised their rates for people outside the US and I have to make sure I have shipping for everyone in one action. Thank you everyone for your patience. I love you all. (it's true)
I wasn't able to get rid of these books as easily as I was thinking...so I still have them.
I'm running low on the couples books but I still have plenty of the rest.
I'm open back up and would really like to sell them all. Please! 8D
They're super useful and I really want to see people use them. So stop by the store!
The USPS did away with surface to air shipping overseas. That means I, unfortunately, have to charge an additional $40+ to anyone outside of the US (except for Canada, I think). So be aware of that.
How is everyone doing, btw? ...school started and everything else!

I do not fave pictures that have watermarks right across them.
This isn’t me being monumentally arrogant and thinking that I alone faving a piece of work bestows upon it some kind of greatness. This is just me having an artistic eye.
If you’ve slaved to create the most astounding piece of work to have ever graced the galleries of deviantart, something that puts all your peers to shame and will remain a benchmark that others aim to match for years to come…..and then across the middle of it you decide to slap a watermark that you spent 5 minutes farting out: you just f**ked up your artwork. You have added something that detracts from my enjoyment of the piece and I’m not going to fave it.
There are a number of brilliant artists out there who I’m on the verge of unfollowing, simply because it irks me so much to see a

Let's ruin it.
Despite being a story of people who usually make it, The Walking Dead comics aren't that positively oriented. What's positive about a world full of mindless brain-eating zombies with very few living healthy humans left? (Don't answer, I know that for some of you it's a paradise). Come and take a closer look at these comics from a diffrent way than usual.
The basics. The Walking Dead is a black and white monthly comic book series, written by Robert Kirkman and brought to its visual life by Tony Moore. These two guys are the creators of the serie, however, Tony Moore was replaced from issue #7 by Charlie Adlard (which didn't stop him from making the covers through issue #24). And, of course, there's also Cliff Rathburn, who's

Some rather prudish individuals have complained that it looks a mite dubious, while the owner of Dirty Bird has insisted that people are seeing what they want to see, and not what was intended.
It is claimed that the logo is simply the lower case initials of the company placed back to back in order to form the neck and wings of a cockerel.
Seeing one of Dirty Bird’s recent promotional images, however; one might be given cause to doubt their professed innocence.
And people ask why I like living on this spiteful little island

I listen to Hollywood Babble On, a thoroughly puerile show (probably one of the reasons it’s on my playlist) which is hosted by Ralph Garman and Kevin Smith. A little while back, a teacher of Garman’s kid was said to be in the audience and Garman joked that he’d better be on his best behaviour otherwise the teacher would call child protective services ‘round.
Smith’s jokingly sexual humour over the course of the show didn’t help out with this at all, AND it gave me an idea for a quick pin-up to draw….. which I did….. and which I thought, at the time, would be really funny to send to them….. which I did…. along with a gag about me drawing smutty comics…… which has come back to bite me…..
Oh, god, there isn’t a rock big enough for me to hide under.
