Why I haven't posted anything this weekI live near an airport that has been practicing all week for an air show, and it's been making things... difficult. Why I haven't posted anything this week2 months ago in Personal More Like This
I can record during the day and sleep at night, or I can sleep during the day and record at night. Usually.
This has not been possible all week. People practicing or competing or whatever during the day using loud aircraft has made doing ANYTHING during the day damn-near impossible. I need to sleep well to be able to do my work well, and with these planes constantly waking me up... that's not possible.
People have been pointing me to sound-proofing my room or getting noise-cancelling headphones. To those people, I say, "do you know how loud a low-flying airplane or jet fighter really is?"
They're low and fast enough to cause vibrations in windows and cause car alarms to go off. It's not possible to do anything against the sound. I wouldn't be surprised if it was loud enough to wake someone out of a coma. And yes, that's why what I'm writing now is kind of disjointed.
My Top 10 Favorite Videos of 2014Happy New Years' Eve everyone. This is a time of year that's great for reflection, to see what we've done and celebrate the positives and examine the negatives. 2014 has been a far more productive year for me than 2013. I mean, one of the reasons I used to do things like 500 subscriber or 1000 subscriber special reviews is to sort of mark how far I've come, and that 1,000 subscriber milestone was in November... of last year. I've made it to 65,000 at last count. And I do think that's because my videos have gotten better. Not only did I take on things that I'd never dream I'd do when I started (Ren Seeks Help and Mega Babies), but I think that I learned to stand my ground much better. And I'll discuss that as we go along. My earliest video this year was my Bats! review, and the last one was my It's a SpongeBob Christmas review. Any review that came before that doesn't count, and the Elf Bowling review I'm making now doesn't count for this year. Why The Uncle Grandpa Review Made Me QuitNot quit as in, done with YouTube. Quit as in, quit reviewing specific cartoons as a whole. Maybe I'll go back to it at some point (Like with Clarence) but right now, I don't really want to. This is mostly based on people's reaction to the Uncle Grandpa Review. Why The Uncle Grandpa Review Made Me Quit10 months ago in Personal More Like This
If you don't know, I like Uncle Grandpa. I don't think it's the greatest show in the world, and I don't think it's for everyone, but I like it. I think it really takes cartoons back to their silly roots. What really surprised me about people's reaction to the review, was not that they disagreed, but it was why they disagreed and how they went about sharing this in the comments. The simple fact that a lot of people didn't watch the review, because my opinion wasn't just theirs parroted back to them. That really leaves a sour taste in my mouth. Like you didn't want to hear what I had to say, both positively, and negatively about the show. I understand that not everyone wants to hear a differing viewpoint, but it was a bit surprisi

Reviews - Story of Brenda Q (Family Guy)I was thinking of doing an atrocity notepage on it, but like many of Family Guy's "OMFG, look at us we're SUPER SRIOUS. We can tackle IMPORTANT issues" episodes like Quagmire's Dad or Brian's a Bad Father, I don't think I could explain myself enough in such a short space. And so, we've got a plain old full review to talk about this. And speaking of Quagmire's Dad, it would be nice to get some opinions on that episode from actual trans people. But for now, this episode. Something that I know more about.Reviews - Story of Brenda Q (Family Guy)3 weeks ago in Personal More Like This
Problems in Format
Let's start with some problems that... make me question this episode's intentions. First of all, it comes right after Seahorse Seashell Party, where the "moral" was that abuse victims should stay in abusive relationships for the abuser's benefit. Whether or not this was a coincidence, it seems... hypocritical, and like a dodge. I think most people seem to get this, so I won't go into it too much.
But there's another problem with
I just KNOW I'm going to regret this, but...A lot of people have been pointing me to and telling me to review something called Tainted Milk, and saying that it's supposed to be the most disturbing thing ever animated. At first I thought that it was just some internet video, but no, doing some research I've figured out that it's one short film in a feature compilation called "Where the Dead Go to Die." The three shorts are: Tainted Milk, Liquid Memories, and The Masks That Monsters Wear. I want anyone who can to describe the events and what goes on in the short films to the best of their abilities. Don't link me to it or anything, just tell me what goes on.I just KNOW I'm going to regret this, but...4 months ago in Personal More Like This

Okay, so some time last night the user "Radical-Hat" decided to post me a comment (16 hours ago at present). And yes, I don't think that names should be hidden this time. This person has made themselves fairly well known. Here is the original comment that they left:
"Your show idea is very bad and won't be picked up. You're going to block me for actual critisism, I know, but I'm going to screencap this for truth.
Your character designs are literally the most generic white people ever. Brown hair. Green/Blue eyes. Anime style. Wow so good. Not. It is so generic and wont get noticed by anyone.
The names are also generic as fuck

In other news, Positively Pink has so little substance that I'm having trouble reviewing it. No seriously, here's the plot. The ponies want to make a surprise party for Pinkie Pie. 10 Things I'd Review if I did Live-ActionThese would be atrocities unless otherwise noted. In no particular order10 Things I'd Review if I did Live-Action1 month ago in Personal More Like This
Number 10: The Adventures of Shark Boy and Lava Girl
This is number 10 because the Nostalgia Critic has already reviewed it, and I don't do things reviewed by him. However, I'll still count this because if I reviewed live-action stuff, there's a good chance that I'd have reviewed this movie before he did. I don't know how much I'd have to explain this one. Intentionally or not, it is one of the stupidest movies I've ever seen in my life. The CGI and the 3D is over-the-top and not done well in the slightest. The story makes very little sense. The characters aren't memorable in the slightest. But, like I said, Nostalgia Critic already did this film, so you probably know of the problems with this film. I guess, you could also throw Spy Kids 4 in this slot too.
Number 9: Silent Hill/Silent Hill Revelations
Silent Hill is one of my favorite video game series, and so I'd have a bone to pick wit
Willpower and LifeAs many people have noticed, I've been a bit behind on this and that. There are reasons for that. There are many reasons for this and that. I don't know if you've noticed but last month I only got three reviews finished and this month I also kinda had to struggle to get to three so far, and the month's half over. That doesn't sound quite bad as it is on the part of my effort, but you realize the full extent of this when two of these reviews were essentially made in advance. One of them was the Mars Needs Moms review, which as you know, had been worked on for quite awhile. And I'm three episodes behind on MLP now, and the more that things pile up, the less likely they are to get done.Willpower and Life3 months ago in Personal More Like This
So, what's the culprit here? It sounds like burnout, right? No, it's not burnout, at least not in the traditional sense. No the user's name is Benjamin Ligeri, and his YouTube channel is BetterStream. He seems to have been posting videos from up to 6 years ago, and the majority of them are parody. Apparently he had a parody of The Girl with a Dragon Tattoo on his account for a whole year before it was removed by user Egeda Pirateria. Egeda Pirateria is not the rights holder of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, but they were able to claim it anyway.
You've heard all of this stuff before.
What do I think about this? Well, the guy is legally representing himself... He's definitely got a good case, although it would probably help if he brought up things like full movies that the content ID system doesn't take down, the ability of companies to claim monetization even after a strike was thoroughly debunked. I really don't know if this is going to go anywhere. Those are big companies and they have lawyers...
Animation Retrospective - The 1970's (Part 1)People have asked me why the 1970's is my least favorite decade in terms of animation, and since it'll take quite a while for my Eras of Animation to get here, I thought that I'd go over it in one of these retrospective journals. Keep in mind: all of this is in hindsight. I was not actually alive during the 70's. Also, if there's a decade (excluding ones I've already done, or the current decade) or a more specific genre you'd like me to do a retrospective of, please let me know.Animation Retrospective - The 1970's (Part 1)2 months ago in Personal More Like This
The 1970's finds itself right smack dab in the middle of something known as the Dark Age of Animation. In the 70's many things of the previous couple of decades compounded. To produce a weekly television series, instead of having theatrical cartoon shorts as things like the Looney Tunes had done in the past, you needed to cut corners or risk not getting a profit at all. Most shows got around this by doing two things:
Number one, they used a technique called limited animation. Like flash animation that came late

The show is called "Cadillacs and Dinosaurs." No, I'm not making that up. I don't know if General Motors payed for this, but I doubt it, since this was apparently based on a comic book, like many of the shows of the 1990's. The intro to the show, I'll be honest, makes it sound like one of the most hilariously bad things you'll ever see/hear.
"In the 26th Century, mankind faces an epic struggle for survival. The forces of nature have spun wildly out of control. Mighty cities have crumbled and the dinosaurs have returned to reclaim the earth. In this savage land, one man stands alone: Jack Tenrec, defending humanity in a world gone mad, a world where only the strong survive, a world of Cadillacs and Dinosaurs."
brought to us by the screen writer of Diehard and 48 Hours.
Now obviously I expected a parody or spoof of similar action movies, but no... it plays it seriously. And it's all the better for it. Honestly, one of the things this show reminds me of the mos

Growing Around General GuidelinesA lot of people have been having a lot of confusion with Growing Around, its concept, and its world. In general, here is "how the world works" in the world of Growing Around. (Even in a cartoon, it's hard to generalize an entire population) Most of the questions that came up when I asked for an FAQ fell into one of these categories, so I thought that I'd just lay everything out.Growing Around General Guidelines3 months ago in Personal More Like This

The First Amendment - Freedom of SpeechThe first Amendment of the United States constitution is first because it is the most important. It grants us the right to free speech, which is generally important to stopping oppressive regimes (and is often the first one that an oppressive regime will try to attack). Worded exactly as it is in the constitutionThe First Amendment - Freedom of Speech1 week ago in Personal More Like This
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."
That's more or less it. Let's talk about what it actually means, or is "supposed" to mean. Most of the amendments of the United States constitution were written in a way to be interpreted to any time, sometimes ones that the people who wrote them can't possibly imagine. And you shouldn't be surprised when people interpret them in... less than ethical ways. The fourteenth amendment was made after the
