1. Thank You!
I'd like to take a moment to issue a very important "THANK YOU" to YOU! The deviantART Community. On the heels of our 12th Birthday, I've looked back at the projects that my team have undertaken and realized that in the last year, especially, the deviantART community has stepped up and helped to make projects like #projecteducate and #ArtHistoryProject successful. Without your contributions, interest, faves, feedback and participation, projects like these would go no where. I'm looking forward to more community interaction and participation projects and am always open to your feedback regarding projects or endeavors you'd li

People + Portraits Photography Talent Spotlight`Kendra-Paige has been on deviantART for over eight years now and has made a strong mark on the people and portraits gallery especially with her fashion work. Her kit consists of a Canon 5D Mark II and a Canon EF 85mm 1.2L II lens using various other lenses and focal lengths but repeatedly gravitating towards the 85mm. She uses a combination of lightroom and photoshop to post-process her work although she keeps her editing as minimal as possible as she doesn't enjoy the post-processing bit of photography!People + Portraits Photography Talent Spotlight9 months ago in Interviews More Like This
Why did you choose people as a photographical interest?
I have always found people to be fascinating, and I have a particular interest in expressions and eyes. The eyes tend to be the focal point in a lot of my work, and typically dictate the image. Aside from this, it’s the collaborative effort that I enjoy in portraiture. When you take images of animals and nature, there is only so much control you have with the subject - a lot of it is luck

Famous Photographs: The Afghan GirlIf you run a google search on what are the top famous Photographs of all time, The Afghan Girl is sure to appear. She is truly a face from History and one that many across the globe have tried to capture within others time and time again. But what exactly has made this image and its photographer so captivating?Famous Photographs: The Afghan Girl5 months ago in Photography More Like This

Eyes, they say, are the window to the soul. And capturing such a piercing and expressive look in a photograph is a highly sought after skill. The Afghan Girl exhibits suspense, suspicion and a sense of distrust at the person behind the lens, she gives off an air of maturity, a foreboding feeling - a vulnerability behind years of strength. That, is what makes her so captivating.
Sharbat Gula is her name, although few even know this rather important detail. Sh

1. New Submission Process and Thumbnail Examples
In my opinion, one of the greatest advantages to the New Submission Process, are the thumbnail examples and descriptions that appear when you're selecting a category. It's no secret that we have misplaced deviations throughout the galleries and it's probably the most complained about topic I deal with on a daily basis. My team and I have been working hard to improve the descriptions and thumbnail examples for all of the galleries, and I'm happy
PE Daily Deviations- Presentation of your workHello all!PE Daily Deviations- Presentation of your work9 months ago in Projects More Like This
Well we’ve had a fascinating week so far; a week which hopefully has provided some insight not only to the process of DD selection but helped you understand what we look for in DDs as CVs. As we draw to the end of this week, I bring you an article which will whet your Saturday with thoughts that don’t just apply to the DD feature, but something which should be a consideration to everything you submit to dA. I am talking about deviation presentation.
Why is Presentation important?
Art isn’t always about just being “creative”. There are techniques and skills which develop over time which contribute to the quality of the work you produce and alongside this comes a developed understanding of good presentation.
Good presentation could be anything from cropping a photograph, to spell checking your literature. These are common sense things that in the rush of wanting to show off your creativity can sometimes be

"Creativity, like human life itself - begins in Darkness "
-Julia Cameron."
I read a very interesting article this week debating Photography Vs Literature and which one of the two tells us more. Of course there is always the element that a picture could be accompanied by words but neither aspect is enough to tell a whole story. But as the article says, Photography has become a universal constant in the world today and is accessible to nearly everybody. Yet many still believe that only pure narration can truly tell a story. What are your thoughts? As Photographers we can choose to limit what we tell or show with a photograph, we can even mislead. Can we convey more with words? Or more with an image? You could describe a person with words but never truly give an accurate picture of who they are visually without a photograph...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DANIE!
Now a lot of you know Danie as the big chief of the Community Relations team, but I doubt half of you truly know how much of a hard worker Danie is. Not only does she have to look after us lively lot (and by “lot” have you seen how big the CV team is?!), but she works on copious behind the scenes projects on deviantART, making this place just a little bit more devious and better for all us Artists out there in the big dA community. Not only this, but she has to have a life at the same time!
Now we have decided to use Danie’s birthday for three things:
1. To wish her a very happy birthday (of course)
2.

People + Portraits Photography: Body Art RecapWithin the People and Portraits Photography Gallery there are various galleries that have their own Community Volunteer and go to person for Daily Deviation suggestions and so on. Body Art has its own niche within the People & Portraits Gallery and this has been the case since 2010. `Exillior explains the changes more fully in this journal.People + Portraits Photography: Body Art Recap9 months ago in Community Relations More Like This
The Photography Body Art Gallery is for Photographers who would like to showcase the Body Art that has been executed by somebody else. If you've created the Body Art or you have the permission to post the creation of somebody else's Body Art then you need to submit it to Traditional Art -> Body Art. Check out `JZino's latest Daily Deviations Roundup for more information on her Daily Deviation suggestion guidelines. Below is a recap of useful Body Art Blogs and Features
PE DD Week: Why did an icon get a DD?Why did an icon get a DD?PE DD Week: Why did an icon get a DD?9 months ago in Projects More Like This
Daily deviations tend to be a controversial topic within the community and whether or not a DD is worthy of the feature is, as such, often discussed.
As a CV for Icons & Handhelds I often find it interesting to read these discussions, since that way I can see what the community expects of the features, but the recent negativity on the Icons & Handhelds DDs is something I would like to address, which is why I'm thankful I'm given this opportunity during the Daily Deviation PE-week. I will try to explain why I think icons and handhelds are worthy of the feature and why they may be dismissed just a bit too quickly.
Let's begin at the beginning.
When deviantART first started, it was a site that mainly geared towards customization. Be it wallpapers or icons, if you take a look at some of the first DDs. So how come there'

1. Happy Holidays and Merry New Year
As the old year begins to fade into the sunset, it is customary to reflect on the passing year and make plans for the upcoming one. Some do this in the form of resolutions, some people make action plans, some people just swing into the new year the same way they swung out of the old oneWhatever way you intend to welcome in 2013, I hope you're surrounded by love and that you do it safely!
I've been reflecting on the year and like many, with some focus on the unimaginable events of the last few weeks. Specifically, the shooting in Newtown. I know that it's "human nature" to want to find
Project Educate: Expressing and EmotingEssentially, these are mostly the same thing with a few minor differences which are explained below. But before we move onto that, there's an important message to share when it comes to categorising your work. To get the best out of the photography galleries it's vitally important that you categorise your work properly. That' why these weeks exist in some respects, to help educate you through that. With regards to Daily Deviations - Community Volunteers will not give features to pieces of work that are mis-categorised. They might assist you by moving your work or explaining where it should go, but seeing a deliberate miscat is a bit off-putting when it comes to choosing pieces to showcase. Take some time to have a look through your gallery (I'm going to do the same!) and figure out if everything is in the right place. If you're struggling, just ask. We're here to help. What we won't do is rearrange your whole gallery for you. We will however, work with you to try and straighten thingsProject Educate: Expressing and Emoting9 months ago in Community Relations More Like This
