My first contest entry ever, for 's "1000 Murk March, Fan-Grilled Bacon...whatsahoosie".
I hope its disturbing and gory enough, it doesn't help I'm working from my brothers computer right now, and not my own. His settings are completely different than mine, and his screen is MUCH smaller, so I've had to sort of work blind on this one. =\ BE AWARE---if it looks THAT shitty when I get home tommorrow morning ((well, TODAY...its six A.M...lots of drinking and I've been up all night working on the murkster)) I MAY upload a scan of it from my puter. m'kay?
Done in copics and ink.
So...whatcha think? Disturbing enough to maybe win a contest? I don't expect to, but hey---gotta start somewhere. If nothing else, its helped me learn a few new things along the way, in any case the outcome has been or may well be positive.
Due to my volunteer work with the Avengers Initiative (as Supergirl), I was asked to submit a Marvel character costume for membership with West Coast Avengers. Originally, I had two other characters of interest, but ultimately neither of them felt right, and I prolonged applying, wondering if I was going to find a Marvel lady who resonated with me as well as Supergirl does.
This is (basically) how the conversation went down: WCA: "Rose, you need a Marvel character to be officially brought into our group." Me: "K." WCA: "Shield agents are very easy to put together for the sake of the initial application." Me: "Mreh." WCA: "Captain America could always use USO girls. How about you do one of the USO girls?" Me: "I'd rather be Captain America." WCA: "In that case, let me introduce you to American Dream."
So. I picked up her comics and I truly loved her, her story, and her history. So I said "yes, Dream, I'll strap myself into a unitard for you."
On a more personal level, my grandparents came to the USA during WW2 from Russia. They didn't like to talk about what happened during the war, and were grateful to have have gotten over here at all. Most of my earliest memories are of my grandpa. Though I mourn the loss of our eastern European culture due to his adamant insistence on assimilation, I know that ultimately, my life was improved because of him. He'd be hella proud of this today. This one's for you, gramps.

By popular request, here are some photos from the charity work I wear Supergirl for. I volunteer with the West Coast Initiative, in league with the West Coast Avengers. Here we're visiting the pediatric ward Halloween weekend to cheer up the kids who weren't well enough to go trick-or-treating this year.
These photos are unshopped and unaltered, and I'm not apologizing for it, so accept my imperfections for what they are and consider what's more important here. 'Sup, reality.
All parents/guardians gave their expressed permission to be photographed for our online galleries.
In early October 2010, Canadian teenager Brittany McMillan promulgated the observance of a new commemoration called Spirit Day, the first observance of which took place on October 20, 2010, in which people wear the color purple to show support for LGBT young people who are victims of bullying. Promoted by GLAAD, many Hollywood celebrities wore purple on this day to show their support of this cause, and many websites added a prominent purple shade to their design. (Font: wikipedia)
Spirit Day Pony, this is to celebrate the LGBQT Community. Spirit Day is an international event to raise awareness of bullying and help prevent it in all forms. The day was started in 2010 as a response to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender youth who took their lives due to bullying. To get involved, paint your avatar purple, show support for your fellow deviants, spread the word, and submit your artwork to the gallery below to honor Spirit Day! Background: Vector:
These are the two 18-month old cheetah brothers. Fritzi is the yawning one and the right one is Hannibal. Have you known that male cheetahs are sometimes found in groups in the wild? They're mostly brothers but also other male cheetahs might join them. These cheetah groups are usually small having two or three cheetahs but even bigger has been seen with more than 10 cheetahs!
Lets celebrate the International Cheetah Day If you care about these magnificent felines you should support the Cheetah Conservation Fund! If you like cheetahs, have a look at this folder containing mainly high quality cheetah photos: [link] more cheetah photos will be posted during the day I'm participating with this photo in the International Cheetah Day Challenge. Follow the link if you would like to know more about it.
Feedback is also highly appreciated Photo 1/17 more are coming during the day
