"OW! Bloody- Why did you slap me!?" Jessie whined, gingerly touching his reddened cheek.
"O-oh! I'm so sorry!" Chell apologized quickly. She released Rick's arms around her, going toward Jessie's voice, forgetting that the lights were out. Neither of them could see anything. Chell stopped in her tracks. She felt her hand brush against Jessie's she assumed, and grasped it in hers. Chell didn't trust Jessie not to accidentally fall into the acid pit.
Jessie looked up at the ceiling (or so he thought he was.) and as if on cue, a few lights scattered through out the test chamber flickered on dully. Chell promptly dragged Jessie with her into the new opening in the wall, slipping past the slanted panel.
"Hey, where you going?" Rick called squeezing through the panel as well. Chell felt Jessie's grip on her hand tighten, and he suddenly ran toward the elevator awaiting them.
"J-Jessie..!" Chell had no choice but to run along with him, with Rick simply jogging after them,(her) ca

Closing the door behind her, she slid down against the wall beside the door and held her face in her hands.
Why? Why was he calm and unfeeling about everything? She got up and decided a nice bath would do much needed good.
Walking into her bathroom, she closed the door and pulled the blinds before stripping down to nothing. Starting the water, she waited and then saw the water slowly begin to fill into the white tub. Closing her eyes, she opened them to see herself staring back.
Murky water, swirls of steam slowly rising as her reflected flickered softly. She stared deeply at herself. Same bland, tired (e/c) eyes staring back. Bags in place. Messy, choppy dull hair in her face. Touching her cheek, she formed a tight, forced smile.
Sliding in when she decided it was alright, she leaned back and closed her eyes. Sinking slowly into the water.
When she her nose was just above the water, she began

I’d rather believe in something,
Rather than to believe in nothing.
Because to believe in nothing implies there is no purpose.
It implies that there is nothing below or above the earth’s surface.
It suggests that there is no advanced assistance and that our existence
Can be revoked in an instant, despite our apparent spiritual commitments.
It would mean that mankind will not be punished for all their wrong doings.
And that living a good honest life will not grant you a shoe in
To something that is not indefinitely there
And that it was us who made this world unfair.
But if you believe there is something greater in place
And that this something does not have a form, figure or face.
From this something we gain a feeling that cannot be described
And although countless cynics have allied, defied and tried.
They have dedicated their entire lives to proving there is no evidence.
Because disproving that something is the only thing of any relevance.
What if confirming its p

"And why not? Why didn't you kill him like I requested?"
"Why should I have?"
"Ugh, you humans. Honestly, you're too forgiving. So humane."
"You should try that sometime, GLaDOS. Be humane for just a minute."
"Oh, okay. Fine. I'll now act like a human: 'Look at me. Boy, do I love sweating. Let's covert beef and leaves into energy and excrete them later and go shopping.' OopsI forgot to add 'Let's murder someone for no reason.' Oh waitI also forgot 'Let's put said someone into a potato battery and stab said someone on a portal device.' Oh look at thatthat took exactly sixty seconds. You said to be humane for just a minute, and I did."
Chell clapped slowly. "This is the sound of one human clapping sarcastically, congratulating you on your pathetic attempt to mock me
A Life in FlamesTHE ELVEN BOY cowered beneath the bed, as the hulking beast-like creature devoured what remained of his mother. Through his watery blue eyes, tear-stained and red, he watched as the creature slurped the muscles from her bones. It was a terrible sight for the boy to behold, as the beast was unlike any other that he had ever seen. Its neck hung loose, as though broken badly and its face, though humanoid in appearance, was elongated like that of a canine.A Life in Flames2 years ago in Short Stories More Like This
The boy had heard it howling, much like a wolf before it attacked. His father had gone outside to check for the source of the noise and the boy did not see him die. His ears however, had heard everything and even now, he winced at the memory. The sound of his father's legs being torn, his screams of agony and rage as he swung a wood-cutter's axe at the creature. All of it, had been in vain.
Rrrrrgggh! the creature growled as it poked its head up from its meal. The thin scraggly re

We were walking through the jungle. And came upon a vast clearing. 60 feet across. Fearing the dangers of the dark jungle, I decided to lead the team into the clearing to make our camp. We reached the center and began to pitch our tents. Mind you it was pitch black, but for our lanterns. Dead of night with barely a sliver of moon.
Never truly relaxed, I still felt a certain degree of reassurance. I felt this place would be safe. It wasn't until we got the fire going that I felt something watching us. I kept stealing glances into the murky darkness of the jungle that surrounded us. Under our chatter and the clatter of pots, I could hear a dark murmuring. As the meal came to a close, I put my back to the fire. When my colleagues asked why, I bluffed them. I told them my back was cold and I wished to warm it be

"Rain, rain go away, come again some other day," my sister sang to herself as she stared out the large window, resting her head in her hands.
"Tillie, what are you doing?"
"I'm asking the rain to go away. I wanna go outside."
I smiled. "I don't know if that's going to work, little sis."
"But it hasta work, Alice! I wanna go to the playground," she pouted, turning around on the window seat to look at me.
Laughing, I sat down next to her and shook bleached white hair out of my eyes. "If Mom doesn't catch us, and you put your rain coat and boots on, then we can go anyway."
"Really?" she asked in astonishment, her blue eyes widening.
When I nodded she grinned, showing the gap in her where her front tooth was supposed to be, and clapped her hands.

The burn of olive and the argent throb--
Familiar, all whelm madly and surreal
While two veined lilac glows suppress a sob.
Upon a velvet brown, electric blades
Of blue cut clean the curtain, sleeve to hem,
And trim with cords of fiery green, then shades
Of yellow, frightening; I do not know them.
How strange that, it would seem, into my head,
For unknown reasons and without my leave,
An oil slick was leaked, a rainbow bled,
Which begs this question of what I perceive:
Am I to know such pain that pain needs be
Made in some manner pleasanter for me?

Death by SeaI left her dead by the sea shore.Death by Sea3 years ago in Short Stories More Like This
I left her where the waves were sure to pull her out to sea.
This is what she asked of me, you see.
She told me, days before, that she wanted to be buried in the ocean’s gentle, but masterful grasp.
She told me she wanted to always smell of the balmy salt water that always crashed on the shore.
She told me that she wanted to visit the Titanic, and the bottom of the deepest trench.
She told me that it had been her dream to see what it was like under all that water.
I told her that it wasn’t normal to be buried out at sea.
I told her I would miss how she always smelled of lavender after the rains crashed on our meadow.
I told her there wasn’t much to see on the Titanic, or the deepest trench.
I told her I would miss being able to see her, even on a good or bad day.
She sat at the crest of our hill and told me she knew.
She could sit at the crest of our hill overlooking the blue wonder that stretched to the horizon and tell me she knew.

False greetings were exchanged through gritted teeth,
and hollow sounding small talk was made.
That siren sat across her pray.
Flashing her charming smiles with painted lips,
her words were heard over the roar of voices.
They rang in his ears like the sea,
and she began luring him away.
He listened to her sweet voice,
listened until her sound was all he heard.
He reached for her...
His intention, only friendly.
She in turn, gave him a small kiss on the cheek.
And that was all it took,
for the seas to turn violent.
They roared over the voice of reason,
in a passionate fury.

There were two documented dragons left in the world. Both remained tethered in chains mounted on display in the cold atop the highest point in the castle in hopes that with their souls being born of fire, they would be able to drive away the progressing winter.
These were tough times in Eliatha.* A curse had ravaged the land once bathed in sunlight and warmth. The winds carried sleet that cut through the skin like knives, and the snow fell in a ruthless torrent of blankets painting everything with nothing but the empty color of death.
Nowadays, the dragons were nothing more than mere spectacles of times long forgotten, when colorful flames filled the night skies in a dazzling array of both power and beauty. You had been born in a time when the dragons had nearly vanished from the face of the world, in Dragonfall, the period that marked the start of the relentless winter.
Being the dragonkeeper had its ups and downs. Before getting the accidental fortunate of being appointed
