watching Kaidan dance.
A light-headed feeling.
When he dances.
When he laughs.
When he looks at me.
it's making me feel like-
like I've been shoved out of the airlock.
That sort of thing.
Makes me feel strange, and-
Isn't that what people say?
God dammit, that sounds so fucking
It's been one of those odd days:
the ones where we sudddenly find that we have time on our hands.
Unsure of what exactly normal people do with time,
and I are spending it at the Purgatory.
Just us guys.
The music is good
the drinks are good
and Kaidan is...
A great dancer.
Which is just weird,
because before I could never picture him dancing.
It's been years since I've danced.
Garrus forced me out on the floor.
Laughed as I flailed around.
I've given up.

Well, at least the mission on Therum had gone much better than Eden Prime, Kaidan had to admit. Despite the heavy resistance they'd met from the geth, they'd managed to locate Dr. T'Soni and bring her on board the Normandy safely.
The Mako had also proven useful and very effective against the attacking synthetics. It was equipped with a large mass accelerator cannon that, as Garrus put it, "packed one hell of a punch," as well as a more regular mounted machine gun. Shepard, however, simply preferred to run over any geth that were unfortunate enough to get in his way. Crude, but effective. Thankfully, the shields and armor on the vehicle were very impressive as well. Colliding with a geth armature at top speed was little more than a speed bump on the way to their destination. Garrus did complain that the oil stains would take forever to clean up, though.
He couldn't say that being a passenger in the Mako

“You knew. You knew that Shepard would come to Horizon to investigate and you sent him. You… You encouraged him to go there. Why didn’t you contact me and warn me so I could at the very least have prepared myself?!”
Kaidan wasn’t a man that snapped easily, but when Anderson told him that only a week after Kaidan had left for Horizon, Shepard had appeared in his office, something inside his mind just broke.
And when Kaidan snapped, he seemed to do put as much effort into that as he did with everything else.
‘No point in doing something unless you are going to do it properly,’ his mother had used to say, but he didn’t think she’d had Kaidan’s temper in mind when she had said that.

Kendra Shepard watched Kaidan walk away. It has been two years for him, she thought. It feels like months for me. What does this mean for us? The yellowish grass of Horizon waved, flattened in places by booted feet or the blackened bodies of the Collectors. She could hear Garrus and Grunt breathing behind her, could almost sense their hulking presences. And Kaidan dwindled.
He had been a great friend-a great soldier.
But her new soldiers needed to get out of here, back to the safety of the ship.
She keyed the comm on her glowing arm rig. "Joker. Come get us."

My name is Kaidan Alenko, I am Human, I am a Spectre and I am a Biotic master.
I fought with Shepard on Earth. And before I left, I told him: I would fight hard to get the chance to hold him again.
I told him I would fight fierce and hard because I lost so much time with him, I lost everything with him. When Ashley died on Virmire, I felt a piece of him open up to me. And then when I lost him in the crash on Normandy after the collectors I died inside.
I spent my shore leave, all of it. On the day that we returned back to citadel, and held onto his shirt.
It still smells of him.
I put it in a Mass Effect field and managed to stop the decay of the cells to about 5 years, so regardless of what happened, as long as the field stood, I could still get a chance to smell him.

Chapter 1: Loss
It took him time. Taking a deep breath he stretched a little. The crash had been rough and he was afraid to become aware of the very familiar pain of broken bones. But he could breathe. That at least was a good sign and motivated him to stir a little more in his seat. Only then was his attention drawn away from his body and he became aware of the silence stretching through the ship. It had never been that quiet, not even on a late night in the dry docks. Not after the Council had grounded them. Just never! There was always something, like the metallic sound of footsteps on the tiles or distant murmur.
Fighting against the rising lump of panic in his throat, he closed his eyes and took another deep breath. He held it for a few seconds and that was when he finally heard it: stirring, a murmur and breathing. The breathing of others. Of other people. Of Crewmen. Of his crew.
Hel felt himself calm a little, odd as it was in these circumst

Shepard could barely wrap his head around everything that had just happened. It had only been a few hours ago that he'd stepped off of the Normandy, setting foot on the Citadel for the first time in his life.
It was, for the lack of a better word, an amazing place. A melting pot of diversity, the very epicenter of galactic society. Everything was so pristine and beautiful, like it had been lifted straight from the pages of a novel.
If it weren't for the fact that simply being there was like standing knee-deep in political bullshit and red tape, he might have been inclined to want to stay a while longer. But as it stood, the place was a teeming hive of politicians and authority figures that were so wrapped up in their own agendas that he could barely take a step without smacking into someone with a "problem."
And those "problems" more of than not ended with Shepard and his crewmates have to run from one end of the Citadel to another to find the "solution."

Living on the Citadel with two Spectres as your owners is about as cushy as things could get for a varren like me: guaranteed meals every day, including some snuck-under-the-table treats; a comfy place to sleep, be it in my own bed or theirs (but only when Kaidan isn't around); lots of traveling to places varren have probably never been to; and more love and attention than I could possibly ask for or expect.
If there's anything I could complain about, it's the lack of warmth from the artificial sunlight. I flop over in the mid-afternoon sunbeam and pretend to warm my other side.
Well, that and Kaidan not always being around, which pretty much never fails to disappoint both me and John. But John's not always around either-the difference is he's not gone for nearly as long.

MASS EFFECT 3 ALTERNATE ENDING *SPOILERS OBVIOUSLY*
**EDIT** Holy crap this got way more attention than I was expecting. The comments and support have been amazing everyone!
A few points: Credit where credit is due; this ending, as much as everyone seems to love it, was only created because the amazing team at Bioware created a universe that was so rich and full of life and detail. As much as I know a lot of fans are hurt by what they did, we need to remember that Bioware still created an incredible trilogy, one of the best ever. So hats off to them all round.
Also, this was written really fast and so the ending (specifically the last part on how you actually win using TIM's signal) isn't very fleshed out. I know there are holes, and they can actually be fixed quite easily. This isn't perfect. Also, this doesn't deal with a 'happy' ending. If there were to be one, or you were to even CONSIDER taking the fourth option, you'd need to be damn ready. I'm talking ALL war assets e

Being head of the Marine details meant that there was nothing that Kaidan didn't know about the things that were going on around the ship except for the things he weren't supposed to know. He was fine with that, it was the way he preferred things.
He was also surprised over the amount of people he actually knew, but the one that made him grin when he saw him was Joker. He was not surprised that Anderson and Hackett had chosen him to fly the Normandy.
"This dame needs a special hand to fly her and I got the touch," Joker said, grinning at Kaidan who just chuckled and grinned in return.
The biggest surprise though was when the commander of the ship was announced, making several people gasp. Whispers were already filling the briefing room.
There was not a soul who had not heard about Commander John Shepard, the latest N7 graduate. The hero of Elysium.
People were talking, creating their own images about the man. They had been doing that for the last seven years
The Captive (John Shepard x James Vega)Of all the spineless, cowardly, miserable bureaucratic political bullcrap the Alliance had pulled in the past, this took the damn cake. Why didn’t they just dishonorably discharge him? At this rate, that’s where he was headed anyway. They already gave him a damn medal for his supposed heroics, but were quick to dismiss them behind his back and criticize them as though they were acts of terrorism to be evaluated. Alright granted, he might be willing to admit he didn’t have the best track record lately; and maybe having shore leave after that mission a few months ago on Omega was probably not the best of ideas, but he never wanted to pick a fight with Batarians…Honestly how was he supposed to know that relations between them had nearly exploded into a thousand pieces, the Alliance didn’t tell him anything. No matter how many times Kaidan went into space, he was always fascinated every time he did it. There were simply so many things to see, people to talk to.
And they did talk to a lot of people, alien and human alike.
Kaidan wasn't fuzzed, the universal translators equipped under his skin, just above his ears, helped in understanding their tongue. It didn't matter to him who he worked with, he happily co-operated with whoever he was told to work with.
He liked working with Asaris', at least those who didn't mind working with him. Some frowned over the thought of a human biotic since their skills were "created", not something that was natural to their kind like the Asaris' abilities were.
Others were fascinated by him and his abilities as well as the natural strength to his biotics, telling him that he was rivalling many of the best users in the Asari military. He didn't know how strong the Asari Commandos were, but being compared to the best there was easily understo

The next morning was hell. There was nothing about me that did not stink of alcohol and I felt the familiar stinging of a beginning migraine behind my eyes. I couldn't decide if it was good or bad that I remembered everything I'd done the night before, including, of course, the monologue in front of Shepard's bedroom door. I only could be thankful for not being drunk enough to actually ring the bell on that door.
For now it seemed that I was the only one knowing of what I had done the night before, and I hoped desperately that it would stay that way.
My friend the zombie greeted me again out of the mirror and the cold shower was sadly not enough to get rid of him. But at least I joined the crowd – the greater part of the crew had been celebrating yesterday, and we all shared the same blue rings beneath heavy lidded eyes, squinted to block most of the light out.
