when he showed up in the village.
Her mother, following her father's death, had just moved to a far-off kingdom to start again, leaving the young woman who refused to go with her alone. It had only been two weeks since then that the man collapsed at the outskirts of the small society.
It looked as though he'd been running a very long time and his granite body had finally given out on him. The Laizhous were called to him before anyone would touch himhe was, of course, strange and foreign. The pair looked at him with wide eyes for a few moments before declaring, "He's from the Stone Kingdom." There was a buzz among the crowd.
"Are you gonna just stare at him, then?" Michelle pushed her way to the front of the crowd, kneeling down beside the man.. "He needs help, doesn't he?" She looked up to the older couple.
"No," Mrs. Laizhou said simply. "Only rest. Looks like he just tired himself out. " She bent down beside him and looked the man over, taking note of his heavy breaths. She nod

It was silly. Why was she still crying over him? It'd been so long since she'd last seen him. Three months. Well, definitely less than the three years he'd been gone initially.
Today was especially hard though and she knew why, not that she'd ever say it out loud. When Suco had thought that Cal had died she never cried on this day. She'd meander over to the cemetery and kneel as his grave marker, speaking out loud about mindless things. It left her content and satisfied. Gave her the idea that she could move on some day.
But then he showed up again.
That had changed everything. Just when she was feeling like the wound had healed, that she could carry on, maybe even pack up and move to the Bakery Kingdom, he'd shown up. Everything about him had been so familiarly unfamiliar. His fluorescent orange hair spiked up to a point looked messier, his blue-green eyes tired and dazed. She briefly remembered how those eyes used to look at her. She remembered even longer how they'd looked at the gi

It wasn't unusual for Tex to toss Cal in a place where the inhabitants dislike humans. In some cases his arm could get him off the hook and, considering the gray scale granite that surrounded him he thought this would be a similar case. However the grey, stoney people seemed to actually be glaring at him. And in some cases they seemed to be studying him as though they weren't quite seeing something right. Though he was unsurprised by the odd looks he was not prepared for when two men came up behind him and grabbed him by the arms.
"Come with us," they ordered. Cal didn't seem to get much choice in the matter.
"What thehey, what's the deal?! Lemme go!" He struggled in their grasp though their stone arms didn't budge as they dragged him away. "Where're you takin' me?!"
"You have been summoned," the man to his left said flatly.
"Whatwhy?! I've only been here an hour, what could I've done?!" He continued to struggle in their unbreakable grasp.

"Goodbye, Calvin." echoed between his ears. He jumped a little at thatTex had never talked to him when he wasn't floating in the tunnel of stars. Not that it mattered now, it seemed that that was the last he'd ever hear from the hot-headed young boy. For all he knew, the moment before was the last he'd ever see of life outside the Stone Kingdom. He was nervous of course, he was about to agree to a lifestyle he'd never wanted to get near with a man he'd sworn he'd never make contact with. What am I doing? He took in a deep breath, squeezing Joanna's hand tightly and looking to her for reassurance. She gave him a small smile and a short nod and he let out a sigh.
Okay. He screwed his eyes shut, taking a deep breath. They were already inside the castle, it was just a matter of actually finding the king. He figured it wouldn't be terribly hard, especially once someone spotted them.
"Hey, you're back!" That was quicker than he expected. His eyes shot open and flew

Cal blinked a few times before slowly nodding. The man in front of him burst into a huge grin. "I knew it had to be you!" He went to try and give the younger man a hug but was shoved back. The guards came to attention. "He's fine, boys. You're dismissed." With a salute the men marched off. The moment they shut the door the sunny disposition fell from the older's face. He looked Cal up and down momentarily before taking the crown off his head and running his hand through his hair. "You sure grew up fast " he sighed. Cal stayed silent. There was a moment of nothingness before the older man laughed nervously and gestured to Cal's arm. "I always told her you'd grow into my genes!" His smile seemed to broaden as he remembered fondly how often he'd reassured Michelle it'd happen. " How is your mom ?" his voiced dropped a bit in volume. "Does does she miss me?"
"She died," Cal said flatly, his voice void of any emotion. "Fourteen years ago." Darren seemed as though he'd be

The man's eyes opened half way. He was in a roomhad he made it to civilization before he'd passed out? He couldn't remember. And what was he laying in? It was soft and squishy; he felt as though he'd fall through it. His thoughts were interrupted when a woman entered the room. He quickly became fascinated by her and all of the colors on her bodyher orange hair, the pale, peachy tone of her skin, the bright blue of her eyes. He smirked at her lazily as she came over to him.
"I died, didn't I?" he joked. "And now I'm in heaven."
She looked down at him, surprised to hear a voice. "No," she replied simply, "You're in Atelpo village." He laughed a bit, earning a smile from the girl. "I'm Michelle."
"Well, Darren," she said, sitting at the foot of the bed. "You've been asleep for almost three days now. What in Ooo were you doing?"

He crossed his arms and glared in no particular direction. "You know you coulda gotten Caff killed, throwin' us into the snow like that! She was sick!"
The was a long, annoyed sigh. "Oh get over it," Tex's voice echoed. "She's fine now, isn't she?"
"I wouldn't know, you picked me up and left her at our campsite!"
"She's a big girl!" Tex spat. "I won't keep you longer than twenty minutes okay? My final exam's tomorrow and I've got transport times to make up for, stupid! You had to go and play house with a princess while I was busy falling behind because of it!"
"I never asked for you to do this!" Cal fumed. "You're the one who decided to pick up a 'stupid' guy and toss 'em around Ooo!"

That's what is mother would always tell him. "He loves all three of us so much. And soon, he'll come home." Cal had always found this hard to believe. He didn't remember his father; he'd left when the boy was only three. His mom would say he didn't leave, that he had been taken away. That it was beyond his control and he'd manage to make his way home one day. Michelle never did see that day.
Cal couldn't remember anything about his dad. If he tried hard enough he could dig up one blurry memory about the man. A blue-grey man entirely made of the same stone as his right arm. His mother'd always said if Cal hadn't gotten her orange hair he'd look just like him.
It never mattered much to Cal to find his dad. Even when he was younger and the Laizhous never returned from their search for him did he want to look for the man. He was too proud even as a child to try and find a man who, he felt, had left him and his mother and sister behind.
Recently the idea of his father entered his thoughts m

"Calvin!" She ran up to her brother, tearing him away from a conversation with Jeremy. "I wrote you a letter! If you feel lonely while you're gone, just go ahead and read it and I'll be with you." She handed him a few pieces of paper rolled together.
"I'll only be gone for three days," Cal laughed. He took the papers anyway and tucked them safely away in his pocket.
"That doesn't mean you won't get lonely out there on your own!" She let out a little sigh and crossed her arms. "I still don't see why I can't come with you."
Cal sighed and hooked his arm around her neck. "How many times do I gotta tell ya? I gotta go through the forest and that ain't safe for a girl."
The small teen wiggled out of her brother's grasp. "I'm fifteen Calvin, I can walk through the woods! Besides, what if I get lonely here without you?" She put on her best puppy-dog face hoping that maybe today would be the day she finally won this ongoing argument.

Cal had been her sole caretaker since she was four. She'd never met their father and only had vague memories of their mother. The way they cared for each other was more like a parent and a child than a brother and sister despite their only three year age gap. When it really got down to it, every decision that Cal made revolved around his sister and how it would effect her. Things as simple as what they would have for dinner all the way to something as important as who he could let himself love. He didn't see this as a burden though, simply something he had to do for her. As long as Lilac was happy, so was he.
They got along very well. The closest they ever got to "fighting" was when Cal would need to go to the Shopping Kingdom. The village didn't have everything they needed and so, every couple of months, he would take the three day trip to pick up a few things. Lilac never liked it when he went, the forest that lay between the village and the kingdom being a subject of fear for her. T

and Cal was almost home.
He had gotten caught up in the Shopping Kingdom. Lilac's birthday was coming up and he'd wanted to find the perfect present for her. He figured it would be fine that he'd be a day late; yes he'd promised his sister three days and yes she had been very worried, but this wasn't his first time making this trip. The worst that had ever happened was that she came after him once when he was twelve. He'd caught her just on the outskirts of the forest and walked home with her.
Cal knew these woods like the back of his hand and, consequently, knew that they were dangerous. He kept a small knife easily accessible in his back pocket just in case and had long ago learned how to climb a tree in ten seconds flat. Lost in his thoughts, he stumbled over a tree root. He caught himself quickly but froze when he heard a low growl.
He looked around nervously to find three wolves appearing from the brush. Cal reached into his pocket and grabbed his knife. Holding it out

Ed's eyes drifted open. He exhaled lightly, and turned to see his wife, Brooklyn, in bed next to him. Always a great start to the day, he thought with a smile, as he kissed her head gently. Then he went to move the covers, and caught sight of something alarming- a human hand where his own metal one should be. He gave a shout of alarm- which woke Brooklyn- and pulled the covers back.
Both of his arms and legs were normal again: fleshy, skin-pink and covered in fine hair. Ed moved a hand up his cheek, and his eyes flickered shut as his hand approached- all the proof Ed needed that his eyes were 'normal' too.
Ed looked around in shock. Why was he suddenly no longer a cyborg? 'What the f*** is going on here?' he stammered.
Brook rubbed her eyes and glanced up at him. 'What do you mean, sweetheart?'
'Wh-where are my metal arms? M-my legs? My eyes?'
Brooklyn gave a confused smile. 'Ed, my love, I have no idea what you're talking about.'
Ed shook her gently by the shoulders.
