Don't get playedAlright, so there was a recent 'happening' in the dA forums concerning a commission offer made by someone with the starting price of $30. The piece they were asking for was supposedly a really highly detailed piece, large resolution, and basically something you'd spend (on the low end of the market) no less than $250.00 on.Don't get played2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Now, from here on out this may be purely opinion and because my participation in the industry has only been for about 10 years (as in being paid for my work) I may not be the best person to speak on this matter. However, I have to say something, if only to put my own opinions on the matter out there.
15 years ago I got my first commission. It was a full colour realism portrait for someone of their dog and I offered to do it for $5.00 using traditional media.
They took up the offer and it took me about a week of working on and off to finish their image. At the time I wasn't anywhere near being sure of my skills even though I'd been drawing comprehensively
Believe In YourselfJust some friendly artistic advice from someone who has been drawing for nearly four decades...Believe In Yourself3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Believe it yourself. When you sit down to draw, believe that the outcome will be successful. Failure at drawing comes from not trying hard enough, not working hard enough, and not believing that you can get the job done. Success comes from working hard, learning from past mistakes, and believing that you can and will rises to the occasion. If you are confident that you will do well each time you sit down to draw, you will do better work than the time before. You might not always get things right, or be satisfied with your outcomes, but you will be moving forward as an artist. Repetition. It's not the only way to improve, but it's the only GUARANTEED way to do it. The more you draw, the better you'll get at it. The more you ink, the better you get at it. The more you color, the better you get at it. Never fear your drawing table (Wacom, etc). You aren't going to be dismantling nuc

Supers V Wonder by JoshJ81
The collective fan community sigh of relief that a female director has been chosen to bring the Amazonian Goddess to life on the big screen has been echoing across the web ever since Monday’s announcement that Michelle McClaren had won that coveted crown. Here at DA HQ, we can’t help but imagine what Joss Whedon might have done with the character.
Pray no one involved in the Catwoman movie gets close to it.

Collection: Blue HarvestCollection: Blue Harvest1 year ago in Art Features More Like This
The Harvest time of year represents the last heroic exertion of labor to gather in for storage the bounty of crops to sustain life through the approaching Autumn and Winter. The health and relative comfort of an entire village or settlement, or a single remote homestead, through the cold and barren months, depends on a successful harvest. A blighted harvest means fear and prayers that the winter will be mild and of short duration, that the limited food might provide enough sustenance. In modern society, the Harvest has come to represent receiving just and due reward for any endeavor one has worked long and hard to make a success. But this gallery of

So the other day, I completed a commission for a friend that was a bondage-themed story, and I was looking for groups in which to post the work. In doing so, I ran across a particular one which I thought would be suitable and proceeded to join and request to add a few works that fit with what I assumed to be the general "bondage" theme of the group.
Upon submitting my contribution requests, I glanced again at the info section and was really rather annoyed by what I found. Among other statements were the following:
"Ropes, cuffs, tentacles...just make 'em tight... I prefer them with high heels. None of those silly assed platform ones. Look at my paintings and you'll see what I like."
"NO MALES...period...I don't give a damn that th

You know these people who keep doing things for others all the time? Like they were spending all their life living for only others. They give, give, and give everything, without thinking about getting anything back...
And I think about these people who are ignorant, egoistic, hurt others with purpose, do bad deeds, and ... get away with everything, achieving what they want. Do they deserve it?
A friend shared this with me;
“Once you’ve lived a while, you will realize that whatever you send out into the world, will come back to you. It may be today, tomorrow, or years from now, but it happens; usually when you least expect it. Those coincidental moments that change your life seem random at the time, but I don’t

The concept presented to me was brilliant, and I loved the design I got to sculpt from. The idea behind this piece is to imagine Obi-Wan Kenobi at the time in his life when he went into hiding on Tatooine, well before the adventures of Luke Skywalker.

Anyone thinking of going into these schools should seriously reconsider. Unfortunately for me I didn't have the foresight to do some research on this institution beyond seeing what kinds of programs they offered, and didn't extensively look into other options because "this is it they have exactly what I want this is where I want to go". As already stated in my last Journal, I have another nine months left of my degree when I start back on Monday, and I'm writing this now because, as someone who's been attending this school since Summer 2010, I can honestly say this is thus far the worst financial decision I've ever made.

There is always a reason. A level of insult. An unprovoked assault. A threat of invasion. A refusal to negotiate in good faith. A refusal to compromise. There is always something so unbearable that it must be righted with no more delay and by any means, by even the last means, necessary. That final means is war.
Ever since mankind became able to produce and possess more than necessary for survival, there has been a surplus of resources. It is the treasure that has built our civilization and shaped the special magic and glory of what it is to be a human being.
The struggle for control and division of that treasure sometimes infects men’s minds with a unique

Definition: A primary source is a document which was created during the time under study.
Author's Note: The first films were done for scientific experiments before they were used by the public to make movies.
Pioneering Britisher Eadweard Muybridge (1830-1904), an early photographer and inventor, was famous for his photographic loco-motion studies (of animals and humans) at the end of the 19th century. He wanted to see if horses always had at least one foot touching the ground when they run.
First motion picture: Race Horse, 1878 (by Eadweard James Muybridge)
True motion pictures, rather than eye-fooling 'animations', could only occur after the development of film (flexible and transparent celluloid) that could record split-second pictures. Some of the first experiments in this regard were conducted by Parisian innovator and physiologist Etienne-Jules Marey (who was often claimed to be the '
