PE Prose Basics: Pacing ( and Show vs. Tell)Hello, everyone! As you all know, this week over at projecteducate is Prose Basics. We're here to help all you prose writers (whether flash fiction, short stories, or novels) get better at your craft with some basic tips for growth. Today, I'm going to be talking about something you've probably heard about again and again: pacing.PE Prose Basics: Pacing ( and Show vs. Tell)1 year ago in Literature Features More Like This
What is Pacing?
No, it's not what you do when you're stuck on a scene and need to get up and stretch those leg muscles to get your writing juices flowing. It's actually a very important ability that writers have to control the speed their story is read. You as the author get to manipulate the reader in a way and make the speed of the story match the scene. What better way to drop the reader right into the moment? But, pacing also holds the ability to make or break your story and keep or lose your reader's interest. This is why it's so important in writing.
Setting the Scene:
If you could make a new Walking with Dinosaurs...Nope, I´m not talking about that kids movie. If you could make a new Walking with Dinosaurs...1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I think we all have had that idea once (or twice, or thrice) after we had seen the documentary "Walking with Dinosaurs" in 1999. A dinosaur documentary of the same format, but with different settings and other prehistoric animals we thought deserve some CGI screentime. Now I have been thinking about this scenario so many times and in so many different forms during the last, dunno, 15 years of my lifetime (with any new discovery changing the cast and sometimes even the setting), so I was wondering what animals would you, other dinosaur enthusiasts of DeviantArt, feature if you could make an updated "Walking with Dinosaurs"? First some basics:
The original WWD had one Triassic episode, two Jurassic episodes and three Cretaceous episodes, which seems like the best principle for such a show, since the Triassic has little to offer apart from "first dinosaurs" and "reptiles that suppressed the first dinosaurs"
Mass Effect 3 - Happy Ending Mod...Mass Effect 3 - Happy Ending Mod3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Yet again the Mass Effect Fandom proved that it will not leave the ending in the state it was presented in the game. A certain (fan!) mod was created (and is right now in the testing phase) a Happy Ending Mod for ME3. We can destroy the Reapers, Shepard lives (EDI and Geth too) and most importantly of all we don't have to worry about the Star Child.
Instruction how to install it and the mod itself can be found here:
You can also check how the mod works here on youtube:

I finally got around to overhauling my websiteI finally got around to overhauling my website2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Hey guys - those blog posts on giant dinosaurs are still coming, but now they will be coming to my redesigned website ( www.skeletaldrawing.com ), as I'm incorporating my blog into the main site, rather than running it separately on Blogger. I'll cross-post for a while, but if you like to read them you should get in the habit of checking out the site instead.
Plus there's even more skeletal drawings on it!
Dinosaur News #34New dinosaurs include new species of Mochlodon M. vorosi. There are also reportedly three other new iguanodontians, Huxleysaurus hollingtoniensis (formerly a species of Iguanodon), Darwinsaurus evolutionis, and new species of Mantellisaurus M. carpenteri, but no one seems to have the paper (at least not in digital form).Dinosaur News #343 years ago in Personal More Like This
A neonatal Talenkauen santacrucensis specimen, a new specimen of Mei long (miraculously also in a sleeping position), and the soaring cycle of Diomedea exulans are described. Evidence of South American stegosaurs is confirmed. Aphelocoma californica are found to react to their dead and Corvus moneduloides are found to use casual reasoning. Potential cellular and molecular mechanisms for the development of early feather types are suggested. The evolution of quadrupedality in different ornithischian groups is investigated. The backwards flight of trochilids is found to be quite efficient.
Dinosaur News #40New dinosaurs include bird Vadaravis brownae and an unnamed abelisauroid. Sarcoramphus sacer is argued to represent a valid taxon.Dinosaur News #402 years ago in Personal More Like This
The mitochondrial genome of Ectopistes migratorius, the braincase of Alioramus altai, the water vapor conductance of Troodon formosus eggs, the history of African sphenisciforms, gut parasites in dinornithiforms, a new specimen of Austroraptor cabazai, and an ornithomimid bonebed are described. A detailed review of neural spine bifurcation in Morrison sauropods is published. Cacatua goffiniana are documented exhibiting self control. The validity of currently interpreted feather colors of fossil dinosaurs is disputed. All non-euornithine avialan specimens (including new Sapeornis, confuciusornithid, and enantiornithine specimens) that preserve leg and foot feathering are found to have pennaceous feathers on their hind limbs. Jeholornis and enantiornithines are found to have had only one functioni

Beyond the Extended Cut... I will reignite. And so the end creeped upon us. With the Extended Cut behind me I can finally say that I've seen the full extent of how BioWare wanted to end the Mass Effect trilogy... And I disliked it. Don't get me wrong, the Extended Cut is a vast improvement over the vanilla endings and I think that everyone should check it out - but it is still the same unfitting ending, it is still something taken out from another story and sewn onto Mass Effect's glistening skin, with it still kicking and screaming (yes, this is just a personal opinion and no, I am not bitter about that - I just dislike how it ended). The themes that made Mass Effect so great are still either nowhere to be found, or twisted around to present a vision I just cannot accept as something that belongs there. My fanface is itching, my writer sense tingling... Not the way I want to end one of the greatest sci-fi experiences of my nerdy little life.Beyond the Extended Cut... I will reignite.3 years ago in Personal More Like This
There will be no extended cuts to the Extended Cut. Either you love the current finale,
2014 has the dinosaur games of your dreamsFor some reason my Journal about Primal Carnage has disappeared... I can´t remember deleting it...2014 has the dinosaur games of your dreams1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Anyway, due to the slow progress and the increasing number of bugs and class changes which the community disagrees with, I´ve lost interest in the game, for now. Maybe when they reveal what role their Acrocanthosaurus model plays (which is a really nice looking model) I´ll come back, but for now, I´ve got different games I can look forward to.
I already mentioned that I appreciate that the Primal Carnage developers at least met halfway with the accuracy-insisters and created a new feathered raptor skin, gave the Pteranodon a quadrupedal launch and made a short-faced, stubby-armed, fast-running Carnotaurus. Considering scientific accuracy likey wasn´t the first thing the devs had in mind when they wanted to make a military shooter between men and dinosaurs, I didn´t think any other dinosaur game would try to at least stay a little bit close

Dinosaur News #27We have our first new dinosaurs of the year, birds Schizooura lii*, Picavus litencicensis, Kairuku waitaki, Kairuku grebneffi, and an indeterminate enantiornithine, hadrosaur Huehuecanauhtlus tiquichensis, tyrannosauroid and former Stokesosaurus species Juratyrant langhami, and sauropod Rugocaudia cooneyi. Incidentally, the finalized paper describing the ceratopsian "Gryphognathus" (which I mentioned before) amends its name to Gryphoceratops.Dinosaur News #273 years ago in Personal More Like This
Research is published showing that different species of Saurolophus can be distinguished through differences in their skin impressions, as is a study showing that polar Edmontosaurus probably didn't migrate. New Chinese deinonychosaur tracks and new specimens of Nemegtomaia barsboldi (one preserved on its nest) and Tarchia gigantea are described. Liaoningornis longidigitrus is shown to be an enantiornithine. A paper rebutting the idea Torosaurus
A defense for Princess CelestiaNOTE: This is not intended to attack anyone. Please refrain from flaming other people for having different opinions.A defense for Princess Celestia3 years ago in Personal More Like This
In my vision, Princess Celestia is apparently the most hated/disliked/disregarded pony character among the good guys in MLP:FIM. And she also receives a mass amount of false characterization and crude joking from the community.
I find it very difficult to search for her on YouTube, Deviantart, EQD, Google images, ponibooru, without stumbling upon several videos/deviations of Celestia being trollish, tyrannical, cruel, sexual deviant or just an all-out depraved monster. Of all the cartoon characters i've seen so far, i've never seen one being so fanonically butchered as Celestia is.
Here are some arguments that gave origin to all the "Celestia abuse"
She sent Luna to the moon
Now i think i understand why people are so strongly focused on this argument; specially because they think it was too much of a "cruel" fate
How to make a viking dressI used to be a part of one history reenactment group some time ago. Such groups basically reconstruct elements of daily life of people from a selected time period; my group was interested in early Middle Ages, from the 8th to the 11th century, from the Eastern and Northern Europe. Personally, I used to reconstruct a viking woman from today's Sweden areas. Most of you will be shocked, but vikings were not half-naked barbarians with horned helmets. They had no horned helmets. Really. How to make a viking dress2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Anyway, my favourite part of reenactment has always been all the suit making. Buing materials, planning, cutting, sewing (hand sewing!), embroidering. Then, wearing. Generally, viking clothes are very easy to make, though I admit that the materials aren't the cheapest, if you want to make it as much accurate historically as you can.
Our goal: a simple dress, no emboirdery. This is actually my first viking dress I've ever made.
I've prepared a simple tut
OH RAGE OH DISPAIRThis is probably going to end up being a big wall of who-gives-a-fuck, but I REALLY need to get a few things off my chest and then I'll get back to work, I swear. This will probably be very disorganized and contain mean and inciteful shit, so read it or don't. I don't care.OH RAGE OH DISPAIR3 years ago in Personal More Like This
There are things that I like about interacting with others and also a great deal of things that I absolutely hate - like having to bite my tongue for the sake of being polite. If I can't tell someone that they're doing something that's fucking pissing me off without some weird disproportionate reaction, I can at least let it out here so that it doesn't fester into a mental illness. I meditate, yeah, but it takes years of training to be able to do the Vulcan thing and express my emotions internally. That, and THAT'S FUCKING UNNATURAL. So here we go, if you're okay with possibly having your day ruined, go ahead and read on, but don't say I didn't

Judiceratops tigris, Hypselospinus fittoni, and the braincase of Conchoraptor gracilis are redescribed. Numerous papers are published on avian genomes, paleognath hind limb anatomy, and the Danek Edmontosaurus regalis bonebed. New specimens of Haplocanthosaurus, Caenagnathasia martinsoni, and Microraptor zhaoianus (the one used a couple years ago to restore its feather coloration) and the braincase of Sinosaurus triassicus are described. Fossil traces of dinosaur excreta and avian tracks from the Cedar Mountain Formation are reported. The osteology of Shantungosaurus giganteus and Edmontosaurus are compared. The homology of articular soft tissue in the archosaur hip joint is established. The effect of intervertebral cartilage on sauropod neck posture is quantifi
Free Features!Hey everyone!Free Features!1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I am doing a free feature on my profile page! Yep! Absolutely free . No need to do anything for me, watch me, or even look through my gallery.
Feature box status: OPEN!
Oh and, I'd appreciated it if you'd faved this journal so that more people can see it
Because I am busy and still have school, I may close the feature box every once in awhile if I get completely flooded with notes (very unlikely to happen). IF THE FEATURE BOX IS CLOSED, DON'T SEND ME A NOTE FOR A FEATURE! YOU WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY REJECTED AND BANNED FROM THE FEATURE BOX FOR 3 MONTHS, NO QUESTIONS ASKED.
I will only feature an unnoticed artist. This does not mean that you have under whatever amount of watchers, but that you deserve more way more watchers for the art you have. (don't be shy because of this, I'm not that strict about it, I just don't want to feature artists with a whole bunch of watchers already)
