Resources For Artists: Colour Scheme ToolsColour Scheme ToolsResources For Artists: Colour Scheme Tools3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
So I have been thinking of doing a few articles apart from feature articles to link some useful resources for artists and this is the first one of these. While this is a mini one, it's helped me a lot on several occassions.
Sometimes it gets confusing to decide which colours to choose. "'Should I go with a turquoise and a gold for the face? What about the room? I was going for a chic cool modern palette which is minimalistic!" Surely, a lot of us have gone through those decisive moments. Below are some colour scheme tools that would help you with your colour scheme choices. Click the titles or the links in asterisk to go to the following sites.

In 2008 I thought my work was pretty good, now I cringe at the sight of it. In the future, I hope to have a similar reaction to the work I'm making now.
Artisan Crafts Feature: KnivesWhen I was looking at the artisan crafts gallery I noticed a beautiful knife and that lead me into the world of knives here on dA - there are so many, made in so many different ways that it was really difficult to choose which categories to use and which knives to use in them - hopefully you will enjoy these as much as I did.Artisan Crafts Feature: Knives2 years ago in Art Features More Like This

CT WIPs - Here They Come Just In TimeA couple of things: GIMP lags on me now which makes it a pain on me and my laptop to record process videos. And since tumblr has a following size that's a third of my dA, a lot of people may be missing my WIP shots. So I hope it won't bother anyone that I make and update journals that show my process. I hope you'll find them interesting and inspiring. And also, I hope people will stop asking me what program I work in lol on top of the fact that it's listed in my interests under Tools of the Trade, I've also had a FAQ made so please check those before asking questions. Further info about my process will be located under each WIP shot!CT WIPs - Here They Come Just In Time2 years ago in Personal More Like This

"Why do we fall, Bruce? So we can learn to pick ourselves back up."
One of my favorite lines from Batman Begins. However, there are moments where it's rather difficult to get back up, and sometimes we require that one special kick in the ass.
From each tumble, we learn a valuable lesson. A year or so ago, I had hit a personal wall that was proving too difficult to force through. Art, which is usually front and center, took a back sea--and while we've all had art blocks--that wasn't the only issue.
It began with my roommate of two years, whom had decided it was time to move else where. With such a sudden interruption, I had to find a new home and in less than 30 days.
Having also been through a bleak breakup months prior, and finding myself with no pending freelance work and

Those deviants truly embodying the spirit of the project by continuing to create and submit next chapters – no matter the story’s refusal to go along with their proposed direction. The zeitgeist is a powerful force, but the artist must know when to sail against the been-there-done-that. And our writers, artists and poets have been doing that week after week. So many artists and writers continue to send in wonderful material week after week.
We have decided to extend the writing deadline for the last chapter to December 31 and we're

Joan of Arc
Joan of Arc (1412—1431) is the ultimate iconic rebellious teenager. In nineteen years she lived a fuller and more exciting life, effecting the future histories of the two most powerful nations on Earth, than most can even dream of, and then died a martyr’s death for her cause and beliefs, for which she was declared a saint 500 years later. Her story has been told in many novels, movies and comic books. She was the girl who God gave a mission to drive the occupying English out of northern France. So fervid was her demand for action that she was made an advisor to the French high command and led them to victory after victory in the cause of F

The Matter of the MassesI've been painting for a few years now, but I feel like I'm only beginning to grasp the importance of this concept. I'll quote Robert Henri (1865-1929) from his book, The Art Spirit, which is packed full of such profound wisdom. The Matter of the Masses2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Robert Henri stresses this point:
"Insist on the beauty of form and color to be obtained from the composition of the largest masses, the four or five large masses which cover your canvas. Let these above all things have fine shapes, have fine colors. Let them be as meaningful of your subject as they possibly can be. It is wonderful how much real finish can be obtained through them, how much of gesture and modeling can be obtained through their contours, what satisfactions can be obtained from the fine measures in area, color and value. Most students and most painters in fact rush over this; they are in a hurry to get on to other matters, minor matters."
"The beauty of the larger mass is primary
'I want to be a better artist.'This is a sentiment I hear often on dA. It's usually followed by a question regarding how one should go ABOUT becoming a better artist.'I want to be a better artist.'4 years ago in Personal More Like This
I've no doubt made journals like this in the past, but here's another one. This page was in dire need of an update, either way. : )
I could probably talk your ear off for a mile and a half about why I should be the last person you ask for creativity-boosting advice. Aaaand I have my reasons for this, but that's not really what anyone who writes me wants to hear, I think. It's just a fair warning. I'm not an accredited teacher, I was far from the most capable person at my college, I've made a metric crapton of mistakes, and I am nowhere near where I'd like to be in my own personal artistic endeavors. If that doesn't bother you, well, keep on reading!
The best way I could aid anyone interested in bettering themselves would probably be by giving you the advice that inspires me the most. Stuff I've heard from frie

How to: AnatomyHuman anatomy is, for sure, one of the hardest things to draw. But at the same time it's one of the most interesting things to draw, because... hey... we love making characters, and it's nice if they at least look a bit like a human being. I'm still far from perfect at drawing the human body, yet I've accumulated some very useful tips, tricks and websites. How to: Anatomy5 months ago in Art Features More Like This
Drawing from life
Drawing from life is awesome!
Look for life drawing classes in your environment, or if they're not available; ask your friends to pose for you. Go have a drink in the city when the weather is nice, and sketch people passing by. There's nowhere you learn more about human anatomy than by observing and sketching real people. There's only one downside to this; dynamic poses are tricky, as it's hard for any model to hold a difficult pose for a long time.
And no... drawing (nearly) naked people in a drawing class isn't awkward. I

The acclaimed warrior race of sentient constructs forged for war and conditioned for its practice. The Last War leaves them to wander for purpose or continue to fight, yet even now; their military might outshines even the greatest of peoples.
Antisocial and often hesitant to speak to outsiders, Warforged tirelessly trudge along in search of purpose. Others become hired hands, workers that offer their services to any that offer shelter from storms and a means to keep their idol hands and ever working minds busy. Still some rise up agains

Quick Tips: On Referencing AnatomyReference from real life whenever possible.Quick Tips: On Referencing Anatomy4 years ago in Personal More Like This
When you reference or copy from another artist's studies/sketches/art, you may be copying their mistakes as well. Furthermore, an artist's studies are their notes and --just like with history or chemistry notes-- copying someone else's notes will not help you fully understand the material. To completely understand anatomy, you must take your own notes and build your own understanding through observation.
This is probably a no-brainer for many artists but... scruffynerfherder and I were talking about this last night, and with the increase of "anatomy studies" showing up on dA's front page, it's been on my mind. DA's resource category has some great material, but I also feel like there is a lot of misleading information taught by amateurs who really probably shouldn't be teaching things like shading or anatomy, because they have a less-than-stellar grasp on it themselves. I'm not trying to knock anyone here, but it's a bit tr
5e Warforged Fighter Progression Archetype of the Juggernaut5e Warforged Fighter Progression8 months ago in Personal More Like This
This variant class progression can be taken by a Warforged character of the Fighter Class, taking the place of their usual progression paths. A Warforged character taking this class variant must possess the Adamantine Composite Plating ability granted from their race at character creation.
Embracing their true nature as created beings, a Warforged that follows this path sheds their guise as Living Constructs and step gradually towards their construct heritage. The magic that animates their body begins a metamorphosis, gradually altering their body over time until they emerge from the process as a true construct.

I'm doing these FOR FUN. FOR FUN! No obligation to my +watchers, no profits being made from them, couldn't give two shits about how popular they've been. I just want to draw silly comic things to entertain people.
Damn, if that isn't a revelation.
In regards to my latest comic, Totally Original, which has spurred much more backlash than is necessary;
- The title is intentionally ironic. There is nothing original about it.
- Discord is an ass with ulterior motives. Understanding these motives also requires an understanding of the type of backlash recolors typically get.
- Art Thief Pony is a satirized depiction of an art thief/over-the-top pony fan. Not a ponysona.
