Odyssey Propulsion 6
We want to especially thank an elite core of Odyssey II writers:
Those deviants truly embodying the spirit of the project by continuing to create and submit next chapters – no matter the story’s refusal to go along with their proposed direction. The zeitgeist is a powerful force, but the artist must know when to sail against the been-there-done-that. And our writers, artists and poets have been doing that week after week. So many artists and writers continue to send in wonderful material week after week.
We have decided to extend the writing deadline for the last chapter to December 31 and we're

GAHDcan't i just draw my stupid little pony comics without someone bitching about how i'm supposedly committing art theft by using copyrighted charactersGAHD5 months ago in Personal More Like This
I'm doing these FOR FUN. FOR FUN! No obligation to my +watchers, no profits being made from them, couldn't give two shits about how popular they've been. I just want to draw silly comic things to entertain people.
Damn, if that isn't a revelation.
In regards to my latest comic, Totally Original, which has spurred much more backlash than is necessary;
- The title is intentionally ironic. There is nothing original about it.
- Discord is an ass with ulterior motives. Understanding these motives also requires an understanding of the type of backlash recolors typically get.
- Art Thief Pony is a satirized depiction of an art thief/over-the-top pony fan. Not a ponysona.

Transliterations: Modernising Myths So it's Valentine's Day here and I'm off to buy shoes to go with my posh frock for my fancy dinner because blue moons just come around sometimes, but I thought I'd pop in to remind you that there's approximately forty-eight hours left to submit something for the contest. So to all you stragglers, you revisers and last-minute magic-makers, you photo finishers: pull all the stops out, stop arsing about and get those entries in. Think of it as a Valentine's gift to words.Transliterations: Modernising Myths3 years ago in Personal More Like This
At the request of participants and for the sake of my own failing sanity, the Modernising Myths Contest will be extended by ten days. This means that the new deadline is February 15, giving you until the day after Valentine's Day to complete your entry--and if you still need more time, I suggest cancelling your Valentine's Day plans and finishing it then. Because we all know you love writing more than you love your partner. And if they're reading over your shoulder, I'm sorry, but they had to know som

Resources For Artists: Colour Scheme ToolsColour Scheme ToolsResources For Artists: Colour Scheme Tools2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
So I have been thinking of doing a few articles apart from feature articles to link some useful resources for artists and this is the first one of these. While this is a mini one, it's helped me a lot on several occassions.
Sometimes it gets confusing to decide which colours to choose. "'Should I go with a turquoise and a gold for the face? What about the room? I was going for a chic cool modern palette which is minimalistic!" Surely, a lot of us have gone through those decisive moments. Below are some colour scheme tools that would help you with your colour scheme choices. Click the titles or the links in asterisk to go to the following sites.

Beastly Diaries #1: DragonsI adore dragons - I always have done and probably always will and after re-watching The Hobbit and seeing - well, seeing but not seeing - Smaug, I just felt like sharing a few dragon works that I think deserve featuring.Beastly Diaries #1: Dragons1 year ago in Personal More Like This
This is my first feature journal out of several that I will be doing daily (until my membership runs out) - Most of them will be winged-beasties but I will also be slipping in a few medieval & mythological creatures every once in awhile too.
So, anyway, enjoy!

Beastly Diaries #5: CentaursThis is mostly for a follow up on Unicorns (I thought I might as well carry on with the majesty of horses since I forgot to with the Colossus's and giants follow through), but to be really honest, I'm not really fond of Centaurs. Whilst I cannot deny I admire their brute strength, that's about it. They remind me too much of Satyr's (a human and got humanoid) which, after having to write an essay for about PPR's paintings of them, I never really want to look at again.Beastly Diaries #5: Centaurs1 year ago in Personal More Like This
But, even they're not my favourite mythical beast, there really are some fantastic stories and works about them all over the internet - especially here (Ha, who would have guessed?), so I thought I might as well feature my favourites among them in my beast diaries (they really are amazing you guys).
So, anyway, enjoy!

The 101 Guide To Digital Painting Hardware #1An input device for a computer seems to be a no-brainer, mouse, trackpad, keyboard all there but ...err, wait what? A graphic tablet is missing or should I get a pen display? The 101 Guide To Digital Painting Hardware #14 months ago in Personal More Like This
This guide is based on my personal experience and opinion, I´m in no way affiliated with any of these companies and I try to be as objective as possible.
As instructor but also on conventions, I often get asked what hardware, tablet or other input devices I use and what I´d recommend for someone just starting out.
Until 2013 I´d nearly always have said: "Go get a Wacom", but the competition and the tablet market is developing so fast that there are more products out there than ever and artists can be overwhelmed by the sheer volume and opinions.
I will just offer some options and add a comment or two that may help you decide.
Let´s stick with the basics:

CT WIPs - Here They Come Just In TimeA couple of things: GIMP lags on me now which makes it a pain on me and my laptop to record process videos. And since tumblr has a following size that's a third of my dA, a lot of people may be missing my WIP shots. So I hope it won't bother anyone that I make and update journals that show my process. I hope you'll find them interesting and inspiring. And also, I hope people will stop asking me what program I work in lol on top of the fact that it's listed in my interests under Tools of the Trade, I've also had a FAQ made so please check those before asking questions. Further info about my process will be located under each WIP shot!CT WIPs - Here They Come Just In Time9 months ago in Personal More Like This

Being called talented is an insultBeing called talented is an insult1 year ago in Personal More Like This
be careful with the title, as this is only my personal opinion and "insult" should not be taken literally.
there are different sorts of artists, I like to classify them in two big groups according to their "kind of skill", the first group are the "virtuoso" or "talented", virtuoso artists just have a natural skill and their work exceed any human parameter, they are "born artists" so to speak, their skill is so ridiculous amazing that they generally are accompanied by some sort of mental disorder like autism (this skilled humans are also known as "autistic savant")
"This astonishing 18ft drawing of the world’s most famous skyline was created by autistic artist Stephen Wiltshire after he spent just 20 minutes in a helicopter gazing at the panorama."

IT'S CONTEST-TIME!Hey all!IT'S CONTEST-TIME!8 months ago in Personal More Like This
It's that time again - time for a little raffle!
The prize is relatively small this time; basically a line-art portrait of the character chosen by the winner... I might slap some basecolor onto it, or polish it a bit, but I really can't promise that as the time I have available for art has become really really seriously limited.
Also I will not give a set time when I'll be finished with it. It might take months, it might take weeks, or it might take hours. It depends so if you're the winner, please be patient and no rushing, k? I will finish it, but at my own pace.
[Edit] People, please note that the prize-art is lineart only, and will only show the neck, head, hair, ears, face, and possible horns/hat/head-gear or -accessories!
SO. On to the rules. There are two.
1. Fave this journal. Once I'm picking the winner I will use a random number-generator to create a number, then find the participant from the faves list with

Quick Tips: On Referencing AnatomyReference from real life whenever possible.Quick Tips: On Referencing Anatomy3 years ago in Personal More Like This
When you reference or copy from another artist's studies/sketches/art, you may be copying their mistakes as well. Furthermore, an artist's studies are their notes and --just like with history or chemistry notes-- copying someone else's notes will not help you fully understand the material. To completely understand anatomy, you must take your own notes and build your own understanding through observation.
This is probably a no-brainer for many artists but... scruffynerfherder and I were talking about this last night, and with the increase of "anatomy studies" showing up on dA's front page, it's been on my mind. DA's resource category has some great material, but I also feel like there is a lot of misleading information taught by amateurs who really probably shouldn't be teaching things like shading or anatomy, because they have a less-than-stellar grasp on it themselves. I'm not trying to knock anyone here, but it's a bit tr
