Shepard to KaidanThey called me commanderShepard to Kaidan3 years ago in Romance More Like This
They named me theirs
They gave me a rank
They sentenced my years
They never pretended
They did it for me
It was always for them
To strip my identity
Once in blue camo
Then orange and black
They offered me glory
But with no kindness or tact
"You must do this"
"You are our hope"
They spoke to my armor
My gun, and my scope
My name was a word
For the wall they hid behind
It held no meaning
Except to title their design
I stand between Reapers
The dark, and the light
Protecting what they love
When they were too stricken with fright
But what I love?
They made me leave it to stand
Alone in the night
With no hand in my hand
My love, they said
Was a weakness of mine
To be what they needed
I'd have to leave it behind
But darling, it was you
Who saw past my rank
It was you who saw eyes
Who saw heart, and true strength
It was you at my side
That gave me the power
To battle this darkness
Each hour by hour
For any last hero
Has stolen our time

The instant Kaidan had closed the doors to the escape pod he regretted leaving Hope behind. Truthfully, the second she commanded him to go he felt snake-like fingers of terror grip at his insides.
But he had no choice. She was Commander Shepard and he of all people knew she would carry him there if he refused to obey her orders.
And she would do the same with Joker because knowing him he'd think he could still save the ship.
"She's going to be fine, Kaidan." He felt a gentle hand on his shoulder and looked up to meet Liara's wide eyes.
To him, she had always appeared to be less capable than she really was. Her eyes held knowledge of course but he struggled to get past the innocence in them. Although her obvious attraction to Shepard did cast a bit of a negative light on her
Mass Effect 3: The Real Extended CutI don't believe for one minute that Joker would leave Shepard behind without knowing for sure that she was dead. So, while I appreciate the Extended Cut DLC that Bioware gave us, I decided that it still needed to be different. So, while Bioware owns the lovely universe of Mass Effect, I hope you enjoy this bit of fluff.Mass Effect 3: The Real Extended Cut2 years ago in Romance More Like This
Outside, Hackett radioed all the ships. "Alright, everyone, time to evac. Meet up at the rendezvous point."
Joker sat, staring at his controls, completely dumbfounded. He couldn't leave...not yet. Not without EDI. Not without Shepard.
"Joker," Liara prompted him. "Come on, Joker, we need to go."
He shook his head. "No."
"You have orders."
As all the other ships entered the relay he shrugged. "Oops, my comm is down. What orders?" he asked, turning his radio off.
Liara gave him a half smile. "You're right, then. What orders?"
All of a sudden the Citadel lit up a bright red and an energy burst exploded from it- but not before a quick beam left the tower to Earth.
AftermathHis saddening goodbye was the last memory she could recall as the flames of the explosion threw her from her feet, throwing her violently across the platform. Her eyes closed wearily remembering his face, and how much she had lost in order to save the universe and everyone she cared about. The light shone through the shutters of the hospital bay, printing their image on the far side of the wall. Deeper shadows began to over cast, as vehicles pass by in unison. There was a slight tap on the door before it slowly and carefully opened. Major Alenko entered the room, unsure what to find, as was his worry each morning on his arrival. He sat down beside the motionless individual, within the bed.
The scars had healed nicely although her eyes were still covered to protect them from the sensitivity of prolonged exposure to light. He scoffed at the idea; she ha
NameShepard was no stranger to fear.Name3 years ago in General Fiction More Like This
No matter how the vids portrayed her, she was by no means fearless. Running along the maintenance shafts of the Citadel as Sovereign loomed overhead shooting down a Human Reaper watching the skies of Earth darken as the Reapers arrived these were horrors that still haunted her to this day.
But this was a new kind of fear. Trillions of lives had been riding on her actions six years ago as she scrambled around the galaxy gathering support for Earth's fleets. Yet this life seemed more important than any other life that had ever existed. She knew this was a narrow-minded view, but it still didn't change how she felt.
Stretched out on the bed, Shepard let her hand roam down to her belly. The tiny flutters of movement that pressed back against her palm brought a genuine smile to her face.
Several hours earlier, she and Kaidan had found out that this all-important life now kicking around at her inside at all hours of the night was a daughter. Ka

Chapter Four - Landing
Admiral Hackett's voice flooded the cockpit. "All fleets, the Crucible is armed. Disengage and head to the rendezvous point. I repeat, disengage and get the hell out of here."
Joker frantically maneuvered the Normandy to barely miss an incoming piece of shrapnel from a nearby airship explosion. The Reapers were closing in on their position, but he had to get to the Citadel. If Shepard armed the Crucible, it means she's still alive. He could save her. After all she'd done, there was no way he would leave her behind. Not again.
He would risk dying. He had come to terms with his own mortality years ago. In truth, he had thought along with everyone else too scared to admit it that the war was lost to the Reapers

His heels clicked against the floor of the hallway leading to her cell.
Were his thoughts not a jumbled mess, were his heart not in his throat, hammering out any words he might have been able to form, he might have paused to ponder why so few people were in the normally crowded hall. Perhaps that was for the best; he was so anxious he wasn't entirely certain that he could have said anything to anyone how he was going to form words to the one woman he needed to speak to more than anything in the universe was beyond him at this point, but he pressed on nonetheless. He recalled the last time he felt this way, the last time he looked into her sapphire eyes and heard her voice, and his heart sank at the thought that both were in the same memory. His words that day were things he only barely thought of before he said them- and only now was he trying to come to terms with the repercussions. Thoughts flitted in and out of his mind like smoke

'I mean,' he thought absentmindedly as he idly stirred his coffee. 'Isn't it normal for her to hate me?' Though all things considered, there wasn't a thing about their situation that was normal; a Reaper invasion putting your relationship- or what was left of it- on hold wasn't normal. Serving on the same ship during said Reaper invasion while putting your relationship or what was left of it- on hold was even less so. He took a sip of the bitter liquid, its warmth seeping into his chilled bones. It was incredibly late- the last of the crew, save for him, had finally tucked into their bunks for the night, the day's events heavy on their hearts as they attempted to exude a modicum of normalcy, tried to cope by means of routine.
Still, he had expected her to hate him.
How could she not? She had found him as soon as she could, sought for his comfort, his pr

Chapter 1: N7
Fire. Ashes. Blood. Death.
The images are burned into her brain, hounding her dreams. If only they were just nightmares and not memories. Maybe then she would be able to forget them and not have them plague her very being until the point of utter exhaustion.
Ricocheting bullets. Gunfire. Screams. Pain. Hopelessness. Calls for help. More and more death.
She is once more awakened by a fellow soldier who heard her crying out softly during the night. The face of her friend asks questions wordlessly, but they are left unanswered as she shrugs it off and rises silently.
Fear. Fear of the unknown. Fear of what's attacking. Fear of the end.
The vivid memory of her fear makes bile rise in her throat as she pulls on her blue fatigues and exits the barracks. The silence in the station's hallway is welcome. It's a nice reprieve from the noise of the memory. It is also a curse, though. A curse that cannot chase away the remnants of what her sleeping body experienced w

A dream without beginning, middle and end. Stuck inside memories, her memories. Their memories. Some place between sanity and insanity. Some place between undying love and infinite death.
A sea of people .So many faces, so many different races stuck in one place. She gulps, overcrowded places make her anxious. No familiar smiles there. She is alone, her N7 armor overweighting her presence there. An unknown among unknowns. Shadows. Figures. Her green eyes widened, her lips concretely closed.
"Where are you?" her brain whispers. Turning her head nervously, she starts searching for him, his steady form, his inky hair, his warm, chocolate-brown eyes, his graceful smile, his energy giving her strength.
She walks, surpassing all the unknowns blocking her path. Then she rushes, she runs. He is nowhere to be found. Tears start appearing at the lines of her face, crossing her cheeks. She is desperate and alone.

He fired his gun without looking, but since none of them had reached him yet, he had hit at least some of them.
He heard screams around him. Both human and alien, and the terrifying screams of those Asari Reapers Banshees; the humans called them after those mystic creatures that would kill anybody who heard their screams. He had always found that fitting.
He was desperately scanning the battlefield - to which the way towards the beam up to the Citadel had changed into. She had been right in front of him at the beginning of their assault.
But then Harbinger had arrived and killed hundreds of good soldiers within seconds.
Somehow she had managed not to be hit by its laser, at least until two minutes ago. Kaidan had lost her some time before and had been trying to shorten the distance between them ever since.
He had screamed her name

Eden Prime Continued...
There was a very loud and powerful groaning of metal that sounded all around Kaidan and Shepard. Both of them looked up in time to so a large object with red smoke billowing out from the bottom as it rose higher and higher in the sky. There was red electricity dancing off of the outer shell. The shape of the object reminded Shepard of an upside-down trilobite with three, maybe four, legs coming off of the "head" of the trilobite and roughly six legs running along the sides of it; three per side.
"What is that? Off in the distance," Kaidan exclaimed.
"It's a...it's a ship!" Shepard answered in shock and wonder. "Look at the size of it." Now she knew what that claw was in Eden Prime's last transmission.
Then, there was silence as the abnormally large ship became a large dot, and then a spec in the sky before it was completely gone; all in the blink of an eye.
"Do any fleets, alien or ours, have ships that size? Other than the geth, that is," Kaidan asked.

Something old was playing on the sound system. Something really old. Kaidan looked up from his drink and over to the stage where the musicians played. The front woman was blonde and hugged the microphone, pressing it to her lips like the romance would make all the difference. She had a low voice that slanted sweetly in all of the right places. He turned completely in his seat to give his full attention to the stage.

Her eyes met Kaidan's and she smiled as she moved in time with the piano and the guitar.

Re: About Horizon...
You don't have to apologize. If anything, I should be sorry for making you suffer like that for two years. Waking up and finding out that I had been gone for two years has been difficult. I know a lot has changed. It was selfish of me to ask you to come with me. I know now that asking you to work with Cerberus was wrong.
Working with them makes me nervous, but they gave me a ship, a good crew, and they're fighting the Collectors. As much as I don't trust them, I need to stop these attacks on our colonies. It's just...seeing you

Step one, roll to my back, complete. Now how the hell do I get out of here? I guess I should be grateful to Cerberus, these cybernetic implants have probably saved my life a second time. How else can you explain that I'm still breathing? That's not to say everything's fine. I'm in bad shape. I can barely move and no one is going to come looking for me. Maybe in a week or two to give me a proper burial, but when you take into consideration that I only have the required emergency rations stashed in my uniform I don't see myself lasting more than a few days.
After my third attempt I manage to sit up. Score one for Shepard. I might be moving slowly, but It counts. My conversation with Anderson comes to mind. "I feel like death, but I'm moving." Tears come to my eyes as I remember yet another person I was unable to save, my friend and mentor David Anderson. I blink away the tears. Now is not the time.

Kaidan Alenko stood at the outside of the airlock of the Normandy SR-2, which had recently docked on Earth and had been claimed by the Alliance. The ship was sleek, with the silhouette of the original, though Kaidan couldn't associate a Cerberus vessel with the original Normandy without a pang of guilt. He wasn't sure why he had wanted to see the ship, though Councilor Anderson had encouraged him and assured clearance, though being a Spectre already granted such perks.
Kaidan turned to see a young Alliance engineer, bright eyed and bushy tailed, open the airlock door and usher the Spectre inside. Hesitantly at first, he stepped inside, the door sealing silently behind him.
"Cerberus can certainly make a good copy, huh? I mean, it isn't the original Normandy, but it is an excellent copy."
The engineer chattered

Taking my Time A few days later, she found him at Apollo's Café, sitting at a table and looking as though he was trying desperately to keep his mind off their impending date he had asked her on. She was grateful that Dr. Chakwas had held onto her old dress from when she aided Kasumi in recovering Keiji's graybox. 'That PVC dress in my closet that Traynor found ' she suppressed a shudder at how downright unflattering that dress looked. Traynor had good intentions in adding that to Samus' wardrobe, but this one was more stunning, to say the very least. Midnight ComfortIt was late when Shepard left the med bay, which was probably a good thing. Dr Chakwas had left many hours before, not wanting to relive the painful hangover she had had last time they were drinking together. Jenkins was bouncing with excitement. Literally. He was dancing on one foot to the other and would occasionally take a few swings, punching the air like he was preparing for a fight, which he was. Or, like an idiot. Shepard decided on the latter.
The scene changed, however, when she stepped away from the confinement and safety of the elevator, with its wonderful ability to muffle all sounds and make most of them inaudible. When Jenkins saw her, he stopped messing around and stood rigid next to Nihlus. As she approached, Jenkins saluted her, and
