Warm early morning sunlight lifts the cold night's veil of fog high in Aigüestortes y Sant Maurici National Park in the Spanish Pyrenees. A dead, withered pine tree stood out against the bright flare lightening up the valley. Dead trees like this one can be constantly found at the higher altitude plateaus throughout Aigüestortes and are a constant reminder of the powerful forces of nature, lightning strikes in this case.
Sunset light hits the shores of Lake Magog while Mt. Assiniboine, the Canadian Rockies "Matterhorn" towers in the background. While I was taking this photo I had to sit through 2 rain storms and a hail storm!
After a cruel 3,800 ft. elevation gain over 9.6 miles, I was treated to a pretty nice sunset over the iconic twin peaks of Els Encantats and Subenoix (in the distance) in the Spanish part of the Pyrenees and I enjoyed every minute of it. The gentle breeze coming off the nearby ridge was a nice change from the sweltering heat of the day, as I sat above this little pond, taking in the view down the deep carved valley towards Espot, where I started my day.
Ostler Peak in Utah's High Uintas mountain range catches the last rays of a sunset. The smoke from the fires spread across the state give the unobstructed sunset light a fiery orange haze, adding to the drama of an already dramatic landscape. You can see the nearly full moon making an early appearance in the top left of the image.
