Court of Madness
Bellatrix stood slowly after Haskill had gone, grimacing as pain shot through the back of her leg. She felt blood trickle along her skin- a feeling she was not unaccustomed to. The steely scent made her unpleasantly chilled, but she ignored the feeling as Jayred trotted up the stairs, holding out the keys.
Your prize, he said. Your bones sound happy, lass.
Bellatrixs lips quirked into a smile. She took the keys, replying, I am happy, Ice-Veins. Now- you comin through or what?
She pivoted on one heel, meandering towards the far right gate. The hall up to the gate was almost pitch-black. Bellatrix walked with her arms out to either side, her fingertips scraping the stones so she wouldnt accidentally veer to one side and knock herself unconscious. She did, however, nearly walk straight into the door. The assassin brought her hands to the cold wood, searching for a lock and a doorhandle. After locatin

When Bellatrix woke the next morning, she lay still for nearly twenty minutes, staring at the sheer canopy that hung over her bed. The assassin figured that she should probably see if Thadon was around- either that or give herself a day off. It might be a good idea, she mused; resting.
Her body still ached and complained from the beating it had taken the day prior, and as she glacially pushed herself up, her sides shot through with a dull, throbbing pain that pulsed against her ribs both inside and out. The assassin let out a low breath, nostrils flaring as she battled against the pain to stand up.
Once she had won her little fight, Bellatrix slunk over to her wardrobe, selecting a simple gown from the plethora of dresses within the armoire. She dressed in the deep purple fabric and short linen breeches and caught her hair back at the nape of her neck, adding a touch of colour to her lips as an afterthought. Shortly after she left her room, proceeding to t

Two choices, one fate
It was two days after Bellatrixs arrival when Sheogorath sent for her once more. He had been so kind as to let her rest, deciding that she was in no condition to be running errands for him quite yet. He had refused to tell her more about Xedilian, however, causing Bellatrix to blatantly ignore him for those two days.
Bellatrix was sitting out in the courtyard, simply enjoying the feel of the wind on her face and the sweet taste of freedom when Ellette came not long after midmorning, bearing the news that the Lord Sheogorath had requested her presence immediately. The assassin grudgingly complied, finding Sheogorath standing at a small round table near the base of his throne. Bellatrix studied his lean build for only an instant before gliding her way to his side. Her eyes were drawn to the parchment spread out on the table; a yellowed, detailed and rather beautiful map.

Beautiful dark rose
When Bellatrix woke that morning, she found herself alone. She had not expected Sheogorath to be there, though she couldn't help the slight stab of disappointment in her chest. Not a second later her eyes dropped to the splotch of red upon the chair he had vacated and a smile touched her lips. A beautiful, rose-like flower, the one he had created for her, had taken the madgod's place. The assassin extended her hand to take the little flower, and to her surprise she found a little slip of parchment underneath it.
'Dearest Bellatrix,' the note began, 'as much as I would wish for me to be the first thing your glittering eyes see this fine autumn morn, my duties whisk me away- as should yours. The chalice of whatever-the-hell-it-was is awaiting you, my bonny lass.
Bellatrix let out a sigh. She knew she had enough time to be lazy whilst Thadon was gone. Now it was time to complete her newly assigned task.

I didnt choose you
As she had promised, Bellatrix showed up in the throne room the next morning- and the mornings following that. For the next two weeks she lingered about the throne hall, sometimes talking with Ellette or Valania if she happened to show up, or even to Sheogorath- who, she hated to admit, she was growing fond of. He was unpredictable and clever; Bellatrix soon found his sly wit almost an even match for hers. At first she had found him rather arrogant, but his brilliance soon outshone it as she allowed herself to get to know the madgod. A sort of friendship was forming between the former assassin and the Prince of Madness- one that was not entirely unwelcome.
Some days she would simply sit near the throne- occasionally in it- when Sheogorath negotiated with his Lords, Ladies, ambassadors and his duke and duchess. Court life soon grew close to engrossing.
One morning, however, Sheogorath got to his feet almost immediately when Bellatrix came int

Bellatrix, I think you should wear your hair down.
Why the hell would I want to do that?
Because you look gorgeous. Ellette bounced a black lock on her palm. Wear it down. Shock everyone!
Bellatrix gave a snort. Her fingers sought her long, wavy hair and ran through it. Her gaze in the mirror returned pensive as she considered Ellettes words. Heaving a sigh, she thought it best not to argue.
Fine. Arrange it nicely, please. No- not like that. Wait- actually just go ahead. I trust you. Bellatrix caught her lower lip between her teeth, watching Ellette carefully twist her inky black hair in the mirror. She occasionally lifted a hand to touch the loose curls, through which Ellette was placing miniscule, shining jewels.
If every man does not fall in love with you tonight, Ellette spoke up, then they are all blind. And my brother is halfway there already.

Over the next three days, Bellatrix slept very little, sometimes only catching an hour or two every night. Her coronation as Duchess of Mania was a swift one, as no one was over Thadon's passing and Dementia was shocked with the loss of their leader as well. Many accused Bellatrix of both disappearances but Sheogorath quickly squashed those rumors; how, Bellatrix would never know. She spent her days in the House of Mania, speaking with her new court about how things were run and how to behave. 'Lady-lessons,' Wide-Eye called them.
She never paid attention. Her mind was always elsewhere- she never thought that being completely and utterly ignored by Sheogorath would cause her heart to ache so terribly. He had been her closest friend- and to be cut off from him was painful. She was utterly confused by such feelings.
And she began to wonder. She began to wonder if she had been wrong in her harsh rejection. What if she did love him? What if she was just

A death in the Family
"Please, Val. You gotta wake up."
The high elf did not stir. Bellatrix bowed her head and pressed her face into her hands, tears dampening her palms.
"I'm so confused," she managed brokenly. "Gods Val, I'm so lost. I can't talk to anyone." The assassin lifted her gaze to her friend's pale, unresponsive face. "Not even Sh Sheo. Oh lords, I'm so stupid. So stupid."
Bellatrix pushed her fingers forcefully back into her thick hair and bowed her head, fighting back another wave of sobs.
"The way he makes me feel terrifies me," she muttered then, her voice faint. "Like there's fire everywhere and it's because of him. I don't like it, Val. I don't like being so surrounded all the time. I'm trapped. I flew out of one cage and right into another, that's what happened."
She drew in a forcibly even breath and turned her eyes to the ceiling to try and rid them of tears. Finally she managed to look back to Valania and watched as her friend drew

Kiss from a Rose
Trying to sleep was hopeless, he decided. Utterly and completely hopeless. After nearly an hour of turning and trying to get himself comfortable, after nearly an hour of attempting to sink into unconsciousness, Sheogorath simply gave up and swung his legs out from under the blankets, straightening the legs of his trousers. When his feet touched the cold floor he allowed his mind to focus on the chill as he made his way to the door of his bedchamber. However, he soon exited out into his study, which was exponentially warmer, and his thoughts were brought back to other matters.
Sheogorath lifted his hands and pushed them back through his silver hair, squeezing golden eyes shut. He stood now over the fire that was fading to embers in his hearth, mirroring the smoldering pain in his heart. The madgod pressed his forehead against the cold stone over the fireplace, losing himself once more in the touch of warmth playing over his otherwise cold, bare

If someone had asked Bellatrix how she felt whilst the Dark Seducers pushed and shoved her along to New Sheoth, she would not have been able to give a very comprehensible answer. Her emotions were so mixed, boiling in the pit of her gut and seething through her blood that if her answer had been intelligible, it would have included several choice terms and special oaths that broiled along in her mind with the frustration that simmered low there as well.
She was, to say the least, quite unhappy with her current predicament, though her frustration came mainly from the utter stupidity of the guards that were marching her through Crucible, shackled and bound in chains. They were taking her right to Sheogorath- which was truly not bright on their part. If they had any sense theyd be taking her to the dungeons right away, though╔ Even that would be utterly dimwitted, for Herdir with any luck was there now. He would vouch for her- or so she hoped.
If he d

"Damn it all to hell!" A fist slammed down into a wooden table, causing the candle and goblet upon it to rattle, the former tumbling over. Wax splattered over the surface and hardened, only to be shattered when the blade of a knife was rent through its center.
"Shut up, fool! You've failed me too many times, you're lucky you're still breathing. Every man you've sent after that bitch has ended up stone-dead. Explain to me how that is possible. She is only a woman."
"A s-strong wo-woman, sir "
A crash indicated broken pottery and a furious roar followed; "She is only a woman! The only strength she has is seduction- lying, thieving, bitch!"
Another crash came, followed by a swift kick and a yelp when the table went spiraling to the lower floor. The cause for the poor table's early demise whirled around and livid, bloodlike eyes set upon the trembling man in the corner of the dank stairwell.
"Bring me Exceddin," he snarled at the shaking f

Of mushrooms and rabbits
Over the next few weeks, Bellatrix found that it was incredibly easy to slip into her new life as secret lover of the madgod. They took turns going to each other's chambers, late at night so not to draw attention. Bellatrix adored the elusiveness of it all and Sheogorath seemed perfectly willing to indulge that; both for his lover's amusement and her safety.
Spring had begun to blossom in the isles and for once, Bellatrix was thrilled to see all the flowers as they opened to the world. One such morning, she woke in Sheogorath's room to find the dull sunlight glittering on the sheets and a rose sitting next to her where her madgod normally lay. She grinned and took the flower, humming as she stood and searched for her clothes though she found that they had been replaced on the chair where they had been tossed. Instead, she found a thin purple shirt and pale gray breeches that seemed to be looser, to allow a breeze in.

"Sheogorath! Behind you!"
Following those shouted words came a swift swoosh and a solid thud. A head rolled quickly down a sloped hill and stopped at the booted feet of the one whom had let out the exclaim. Bellatrix savagely kicked the ice-incased head away and hacked down yet another knight, bounding up the hill after the thing had crumpled. Sheogorath took his champion's hand as soon as she reached him and he began to pull her after him, which she surprisingly complied to. The assassin glimpsed back over one shoulder and swore.
"There's more comin'!" she shouted.
"I figured," Sheogorath growled back, his tone hard. "This is the biggest crowd of vermin I've ever seen that didn't include Hazzy. Pick up your feet, Bella!"
"I can run faster if you aren't draggin' me!" Bellatrix exclaimed, sheathing her knife and wringing her hand from Sheogorath's nigh protective grasp. "My job is to keep you safe, not the other way around."
The assassin glanced

His voice hovered at the edge of her conscience and his warm breath tickled her ear. Shifting, Bellatrix grumbled tiredly, sure that whatever Sheogorath had to say could wait.
"Bellatrix, wake up. Dark rose. I'm leaving."
That was enough to jolt her. Bellatrix forced her eyes open and became aware of the pale dawn light that fell over her bare legs. Sheogorath straightened and she pulled herself up.
"Oh that's right " Bellatrix frowned, her brow creasing. Sheogorath had told her a week prior that he would be leaving for a meeting of the Daedra a sort of check-in to make sure that all realms were working properly. Or, in the case of the Isles, as improperly as possible.
"How long did you say you'd be gone?" she asked, her gaze finding the madgod's. He took her hand in his already gloved one and kissed it.
"Not too long. Only a few days. Normally a few of us meet at a time some forget, so we have to wait. I'll

Lights of Passion
For a week the entire palace was abuzz with the anticipation of the Festival of Lights supposedly, Sheogorath claimed, when his people celebrated his finding of the sun and moon and stars.
"I am a god," he mockingly crooned to Bellatrix when she scoffed at the idea.
The champion of the madgod, of course, was to be dressed in the finest clothes, as to outdazzle the fire itself. Bellatrix found the idea fairly foolish but she went along with it, approving of colours that Ellette would demand about, scampering off to tell the seamstress of the newest development.
It was the day before the actual Festival began when a young woman from the court slyly shooted to Bellatrix's side, peering down at the book the assassin was busy pouring over. Slowly the champion turned her eyes to the lass, who smiled before she asked, "the ladies and I have well, we're wondering something."
Sheogorath's voice floated inside from the courtyard and
