Are DDs about the art or artist? Are DDs about the art or artist?10 months ago in Art Features More Like This
DDs are about the art, not the artist.
Go to the suggestion guidelines of most CVs and you'll notice huge differences between stuff like the amount of favs something can have, personal preferences, and of course galleries. But there's one thing that doesn't change: the guidelines for DDs focus on the artistic qualities of the individual piece.
A DD is a 24-hour feature given to a piece of art that the featuring person (usually a Community Volunteer)—and suggester—wants to expose more.
Because the art hasn't been appreciated as much as it could be. Or because it's got something to offer the community, like a tutorial or a suggestion. Usually it's a mix of both, although of course each piece is unique.
The take-away from this is that while a lot of thought goes into picking a
Stockers I Hate, Feature EditionSo, the stock community has grown and improved so much since I first started producing stock, and there are so many stockers whose stock I love.Stockers I Hate, Feature Edition9 months ago in Art Features More Like This
These aren't them. The stockers featured here are the people whose stock is so good, that I hate them out of pure jealousy. They tend to be people with resources or abilities beyond the scope of my own, and much the same taste. I'm only featuring stockers that primarily produce male stock, because that's what Ari and I do. If I featured female stockers I envied as well, we'd be here all year.
The first that has to be mentioned, of course, is `jademacalla. I've hated him from day one, in a good way. His stock is awesome, and often makes me think "That must be uncomfortable."
In the vein of obnoxiously athletic stockers, I'd be wrong not to mention *DaeStock, 'cuz, well, Duuuuuude. If you're looking for epic displays of male physicality, he's the stocker for you.
I also hate (in the good way) ~Nemesis-19 Not all of his stock is up my

THE NAME GAME
Does your character have a Japanese name?
Even though she is not Japanese?
Is it a name you came up with?
Is the character named after you?
Is it your pen name?
Is it a name you wish you had?
Is it your nickname?
Is the name unusual in any way? (i.e. apostrophes, dashes, etc.)
Is it a word that would not usually be used as a name? (Ignore, if homunculus.) I.e, Sorrow, Chastity, etc.
Does this word have anything to do with a special weapon, item, or form of alchemy?
Is it an exceptionally long name? (I.e, Ebony Dark'ness Dementia Raven Way)
Is it unusual for your character's nationality?
Is your character considered beautiful?
By a certain someone in the series?
By everyone in the series?
Do characters in the series tell her how beautiful they are?
If the character is female, does she have long hair? (As in, past the upper back.)
Does it not
Free (and cheap) Art ProgramsUpdate: 8/9/2012 - Redid review format. Added MangaLabo and Manga Studio.Free (and cheap) Art Programs3 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Photoshop is a great program, but despite it's many features it's a bit pricy at $999. I created this list for people with smaller wallets and certain art needs.
The programs are listed according to what type of art they are best suited for.
Don't know what program will be best for you? Most of the paid programs have trial versions available, download them and see what you like best.

Price: 79 USD
Pros: ability to customize brushes, ruler tools, user-friendly interface, some built-in screen tones. Can create "event" files, where others can watch you drawing long after the fact. Updated regularly.
Cons: Not as many drawing/painting tools as other programs, is somewhat limited out of the box.

A Pop Culture Interpretation of The Supernatural
Every culture around the world created gods and other mythical beings by mixing and matching fanged and taloned animal parts—e.g., enormous eagle heads on lions’ bodies—human beings have always seemed to need to believe there are powerful and usually quite vengeful supernatural beings lurking just beyond the candlelight.
Supernatural beings come to serve several purposes:
They kept people on the lighted path of truth and goodness, fearful of exploring beyond;
They were a reminder of the punishment we deser

The Slender Man
In this season of deceits deceptions & witcheries
I am wary of my following message not being received with the full gravity it deserves. It is not my intention to unduly alarm the deviantART community, but... $LaurenKitsune is at this time unaccounted for. All attempts on our part to contact her have failed. It is my hope that she has simply taken a much deserved unscheduled pre-Halloween “vacation” and will be back in online communication soon.
Before going dark, $LaurenKitsune was good enough to write and transmit a report on the Slender Man phenomenon sweeping the Internet. That report is published here fo

General Photography CVs - what do we actually DO?Since it's Daily Deviations week, a quick revamp over what the General Photography Community Volunteers can DD - and can't - seemed to be fitting! For starters, those who don't know - your current General Photography Community Volunteers are ^Kaz-D and ^3wyl. For those who aren't aware of the 'lingo' within the galleries, here's a very short glossary...General Photography CVs - what do we actually DO?10 months ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Getting Down with the Lingo
This is the common term for Daily Deviations. The Daily Deviation is a daily feature chosen from the galleries here on deviantART. A small assortment of submissions are chosen each day by a select group of staff/volunteer members who wish to showcase an image which they found impressive or otherwise interesting enough to deserve being brought to the attention of the community-at-large. This information can be readily found here -> :faq61:
This is the short way of saying, Animals, Plants and Nature - a sub-gall
