OC Contest! <3HELLO~~~OC Contest! <33 years ago in Personal More Like This
OKAY! So, here's the first ever OC contest to be hosted by me~~ I wanna see how other people would draw my OCs (this is why... )
Anything under the sun! Or even the moon. LOL. Anything you could think of! XD
The artwork can ONLY either be drawing/ painting/ 3d art! Sorry but no photomanipulations, photos, sculptures, animations, literature etc... and it is also important that the work will be in anime/manga style and not realistic, western cartoons...
You'll just have to draw any of my OCs here... (it's a shame they haven't got a name yet. I'll try to give them later for easy identification.) The maximum number of characters per entry will be five... and the minimum is, of course, one.

STA Mentor's Program: InformationHey everyone!STA Mentor's Program: Information3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Firstly I'd like to ask how everyone is! It's amazing the amount of deviations we've had submitted lately and I hope every one is doing well!
Secondly, thank you to everyone who voted and commented on the latest poll! An overwhelming majority of you voted that yes, you would like to see a mentor program put into place and would like to participate, whether being a mentor, being mentored, or doing both. A lot of you also asked for more information and how it would work, which is what this journal is about. Please realize that nothing has been put into place yet and we are still not sure if we'll be able to pull this off, but we'll see how you guys all feel after reading this.
Before we begin, I would like to make it quite clear that this is a member run thing- meaning that you will get as much as you put into it! If you do not wish to participate, you most certainly do not have to!
How It Works

The Internet Archive is a massive digital library that stores all sorts of material in the public domain, from music and movies to images, webpages and nearly three million books. All of this is open-source and available to the general public free of charge. The books documented below cover all sorts of subjects from different eras, from anatomy to portraiture, fashion to architecture, from the works of Leonardo Da Vinci to the letters of Vincent van Gogh.
And this is only scratching the surface! If you head over to the Archive and search for whatever subjects catches your interest most you can find much, much more. Just select "Texts" in the search box at the top of the page.

How to Make 2D Tile sets for games Part 1 + MoreHey everyone! How to Make 2D Tile sets for games Part 1 + More2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I just uploaded a new tutorial, the first in the series, all about making 2D tiles and tile sets for games!
Things covered in this episode:
- The anatomy of a basic tileset
- Setting up and using Photoshop's grid system for making tiles
- Using Photoshop's Offset filter to make tiles seamless
- Adapting a tiling texture into a tileset
- Some results of a finished basic tileset
- Thoughts and some opinions!
- I forgot to master the audio. Sorry if I sound just a tad muffly!
Also recently uploaded by Tyler Edlin, this video about perspective drawing where I also have a segment about how to make perspective grids in Photoshop!
By the way, have you been paying attention to my tumblr? I post stuff like this more often there, as I only see my DA journal as a means to communicate about mo
Nasa publishes faster-than-light spaceship designNasa publishes faster-than-light spaceship design7 months ago in Personal More Like This
New concept images show a spacecraft with a warp drive that could travel to our nearest star in 4 weeks - current ships would take 80,000 years
Friday 13 June 2014
Believe it or not, Nasa is serious about creating faster than light travel, and have released a new batch of concept images (see gallery below) showing exactly what a spacecraft equipped with a star-hopping warp drive might look like.
Created in collaboration between Dutch artist Mark Rademaker and Nasa physicist Dr Harold White, the illustrations show a craft powered by an Alcubierre Drive – a hypothetical engine that was first suggested in 1994 as a way of achieving faster than light speeds.
Alcubierre’s device worked by distorting space-time, expanding the space behind a ship and contracting the space in front of it to create

I'm sure we all get comments such as: "Wow amazing! Reminds me of X or Y or potato!"
That awkward moment when you have no idea what that was, so you bust out google and search it up, only to find out that it looks NOTHING like what people said.
Now, please don't get me wrong. I have no problem with comments or feedback such as ones above. I truly appreciate how viewers are trying to relate your piece in their own ways.
What I CANNOT STAND (and I know there are many of you out there who feel the same), are comments like these:
When you make an image of something such as a practical robot or a futuristic (but not too futuristic) car that still uses wheels.
"Um, your image looks too much like Z, X, Y,...."
That moment when what they described, was the most generic design for a robot or any ordinary car done by another present day

How to Stock 1- Setting up a Shooting AreaWelcome to "How to Stock," a new short series of articles on how to do some stock basics. We'll ask the big names in stock for their tips and opinions on how to get the best out of your stock shoot! How to Stock 1- Setting up a Shooting Area2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
For the first article, I asked faestock, Tasastock, and kirilee all about how to set up a shooting area. Let's see what wisdom they have for us!
What are the best kind of lights? How many should I have? What kind of bulbs give the best light?
:iconfaestock: Faestock says:
If you have access to studio lighting then I prefer to use a large Elenchrom soft box. The soft box provides a soft flattering light for most subjects. A direct flash can be harsh, using some kind of filter, like a beauty dish, grate or soft box is better. I would also suggest rigging the stand with wheels so it is easily adjustable, as one inch to the left can make all the difference when you

Taking Care of Yourself
You know it's out there: the dreaded smell of unwashed bodies. At Sakura-Con, it's called H.O.B.O.: Horrible Otaku Body Odor. We here at Sakura-Con have declared the convention a "No H.O.B.O. Zone." To enforce that, we have provided a checklist that will help you keep that smell to an absolute minimum, and your con experience will be much more pleasant. Please remember to bring these things with you!
The Top Twenty Items Forgotten by Convention Attendees (a Checklist)
1. Personal towel. (We know the hotel provides them, but if you're sharing a room with several people, this guarantees you your very own towel. Also, if you plan on using a lot of makeup for a costume or dying your hair and use hotel towels, you will be charged a hefty fee for damaging hotel property. Please bring your own towels if you plan to do this.)
2. Shampoo and conditioner. (Again, the hotel provides these, but the bottles are quite small. Bringing your own ensures you

While we lie here in silence,
The science will burn
Aperture's being rebuilt
But my hearts not Her concern
Because I gave it to you love,
I pray you realize some day
My past is shrouded in science,
But that doesn't mean,
That I can't find the words to say...
Our world it will soon fall silent,
All memorys fade in the end...
But I'll remember you, How could I ever forget you!
You crazy moron your the reason I, stayed...
So I'll sit and I'll wait,
In this dungeon of science!
For my love here to wake,
No turning back, no defiance!
Science rules over logic,
Love defies what I know!

Over the years I have produced a range of tutorials on artistic use of the computer. Most of them concerns rather general concepts and can hopefully give something regardless of which program you are using or even be of some interest for traditional, non-digital artists. Some examples of my art can be found in the gallery.
That said, to get the most out of these you should know that I mainly use the open-source image manipulation program GIMP. I also work a lot with the painter program MyPaint. These are both very powerful programs capable of great artistic expression. Being open-source programs, they are both legally free to download and use without any cost. They exist for many platforms, including Linux, Mac and Windows, so they are worth trying out if you haven't already.
The tutorials listed below tend are (ver

No Fear of FlyingI recently flew back from Italy. It's my first time outside North America. It was amazing to consider I started my return day on the Italian Riviera (no, I'm not rich…), then flew over the snow capped Alps, over the chilly North Atlantic dotted with floating icebergs as far as the eye could see, then over the still snow laced tundra of Labrador to arrive back in balmy New England. I don't take that for granted, and don't understand how any one can?No Fear of Flying8 months ago in Personal More Like This
For me flying is the closest I come to a religious experience. Maybe it's because it forces my brain to "think big". You can't look out the window and not see that humanity - all that stuff we take for granted: cars, houses, friends, family - is all just a fine dust distributed around a vast globe. But at the same time you see Earth more as a planet - a finite ecosystem in which powerful yet subtle natural processes shape the land and life.
I don't understand why more people aren't awed by the views and the change in perspective - esp

Specifically for the Resources/ Stock Images sub category of the resources tree, DeviantArt has provided guidelines for submissions relating to size, quality and usefulness as explained in our favorite FAQ 809 -
Images submitted to the Stock Gallery should be larger than 1000px on the smallest size - to promote good quality submissions and a basic standard across all types of stock image.
The Stock Gallery is split into many sub sub categories, not only to create a logical submission process, but also to aid artists searching for stock images.
Model stock photography contains 4 main areas, which are further broken down into full body, portrait, anatomy and nude in the adult sections.
It is worth noting at this point that all model stock photography should not contain sexually explicit poses as per DeviantArts submission policy and the following FAQ infor
How to Plot Like a GrimIn ten simple steps, you too can plot like a Grim. How to Plot Like a Grim2 years ago in Literature Features More Like This
1. Get an idea
This can be a brief snippet of dialogue. Or an ending that just seems perfect. Sometimes it's just the concept of what I'd like to see a character go through. I write that down. Usually it doesn't see the cold light of day for at least a couple months, but when I've thought about it long enough and can't seem to get the idea out of my head, that's when I sit down and start plotting things out a bit.
2. Work out the basic plot
Now that I've got the idea, I need to work out the basic details. But how do I do that? Well, I write it down. Then I think about the different angles to get to that idea. I write those down. If it's dialogue, who's talking? What do they feel? Who are they talking to? If it's a snippet of a scene, who's in the scene? Why are they there? What are they doing? What's going on outside of that scene?
