LiteStep and Windows 7 x64 : running them bothInstalling Litestep on Windows 7 x64LiteStep and Windows 7 x64 : running them both3 years ago in Personal More Like This
You need to download some required libraries in order for Litestep to run on
Windows. The libraries are called "Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables"
otherwise known as vcredist.exe. What you will need are the 2005, 2005 SP1,
2008, 2008 SP1 to run properly (it is what the Litestep installer will be looking for)
If you currently develop with Microsoft Visual Studio (Express, Web Developer),
whichever version, your libraries should already be in place; though checking
for updates is a good idea. For good reason, I also recommend looking for
"Sec ATL" updates, they contain patches and fixes for possible security flaws within
Microsoft's code source.
I know it sounds funny, but you need to get the x86 (32-bit) and the x64 (64-bit)
installers for this reason: The Litestep program is by default, 32-bit architecture,
however the 64-bit update package (0.25 Alpha and greater) will be a patch after
you install Litestep. The 32-bit libra
Litestep on Windows 7UPDATE(9/11/2011): lsdev.org is currently down which is a major bummer because it is a huge resource for the litestep community. from what i've read some kind folks are trying to find a new home for lsdev but i'm not really in contact with anyone so i don't know anything for certain, just what i read online. if you happen to be a new litestep user you picked a somewhat bad time to get into it =/Litestep on Windows 75 years ago in Personal More Like This
UPDATE: this tutorial has gotten a lot of attention since i posted it 2 years ago.. so i decided to update the information, add information and even a nice video tutorial by andredk which is a little long, but very detailed. i updated the old journal and submitted a new one for good measure
installing litestep is not a big deal. it has dependencies like any other application, and without them it will error. assuming your system meets all the requirements right now you can stop reading this and install liteste

Emotional Emoticons 20Welcome to another installment of Emotional Emoticons! This week I'm featuring emoticons that can be found by searching either "wave" or "hi".Emotional Emoticons 203 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Tard Welcome by Griffinite is cute in the way that the tard's waving. It makes me want to squeeze it!
:waving: by Synfull is a very cute small wave. I also like the shading.
:excited: by CookiemagiK is a great emoticon, and was recently added to the Emoticon Legend as :squee:.
syn wave by Syns-Stuff (an alternate account of Synfull) is, in my opinion, a classic example of her work.
:omghai: by Synfull is a cute little emoticon that helps show your enthusiasm when you see someone!
 by dxd is a neat variation of the current .
[MacType] New font smoother for windowsHeya folks,[MacType] New font smoother for windows3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I don't know about you, but I was always sick of the default windows font rendering, that's why I used GDI++ with Windows XP and GDIpp with Win7, until a few months ago GDIpp worked great, but then there where a lot of compatibility issues (Google Chrome/Firefox).
Now I found this http://www.mediafire.com/?8cnc6v7z7w4e647 on a chinese board http://bbs.themex.net/forumdisplay.php?f=88 (yeah yeah yeah, at least with google translate I could read something )
Works awesome and you can switch language, still a pretty shitty translation, but great tools to create configs and it runs as a service.
Check it out
PS: added a screenshot http://dl.dropbox.com/u/70350/screens/201112190832.jpg
there is a new google code site available with a new installer http://code.google.com/p/mactype/
PSS: the update fixed some issues with chrome/firefox

Lumi, a first previewHey ! :]Lumi, a first preview2 years ago in Personal More Like This
So I've made some new changes on Lumi, my future Visual Style for Windows 7. It will continue to change in some details, and it's certainly not over yet, different parts are still the one from Soft7.
Anyway here's the actual result :
White isn't it ? ^^
My main ideas were :
more "minimal", less transparent, and add a tiny color.
The window on top left is active, the others are inactive (mainly a difference in the shadow, but the windows themselves are a bit more transparent).
The "Yes" button is hovered, like the Music icons. The DVD drive is selected
I believe the caption buttons are too subtle right now, and I'm still trying to do a nice hover effect, subtle but visible.
It includes the new icons on the Navigation Pane, obviously based on the icons in Mac OS Lion, entirely made from scratch (all of them) with the subtle blue of the theme.
By the way, don't get it wrong, I hardly have time to play all t
How to (sort of) get Truetransparency on Win7A lot of people ask me how to make TrueTransparency play nice with Windows 7.How to (sort of) get Truetransparency on Win74 years ago in Personal More Like This
The short answer is: You can... well sort of.
Here are the general problems (I'm going to assume people with Win7 are on the 64-bit version, or Win7 x64).
1) Explorer windows are not skinned (or any 64-bit programs for that matter).
2) Explorer windows skin, but the toolbar is completely transparent.
First, you will need both TrueTransparency x86 and x64.
For your convenience, here is a zip with both (x64 can be hard to find): http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7100381/TrueTransparency.zip
To skin all windows, you will need to run both the TrueTransparency.exe in the TrueTransparency x64 AND TrueTransparency x86 folders.
At this point, all windows should be skinned (with the exclusion of "special" windows like Google chrome, Command Prompt, GIMP/Photoshop, Task Manager, etc.
You may notice that the explorer toolbar is completely transparent. There are two workarounds for this.
One involves removing the too
Text Beside Icons on the Desktop - NautilusI've decided to re-write this little tutorial for those who are interested in a more "Mac Feel" on the gnome Desktop.Text Beside Icons on the Desktop - Nautilus2 years ago in Personal More Like This
First, open terminal and write:
apt-get source nautilus
sudo apt-get build-dep nautilus
The build-dep command will install all the build dependencies for nautilus.
In nautilus sorce folder you just downloaded, navigate to: src\file-manager.
Find the file named: fm-desktop-icon-view.c
Open with your favorite Text Editor and find the line:
real_supports_labels_beside_icons (FMIconView *view)
Below it you'd see this line: return FALSE;
Change it to:
On GNOME3 and Nautilus 3.x+ search for the file: /src/nautilus-desktop-icon-view.c in the directory you just downloaded.
And look for this line: "supports-labels-beside-icons", FALSE,
Change FALSE to TRUE
Save the file.
Now start to compile Nautilus.
sudo make install
Choose Text Beside Icons in the Preferences.
Nautilus now should draw Text beside ico

RAINMETER WORKSHOPMaking a Weather Skin or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love WebparserRAINMETER WORKSHOP4 years ago in Personal More Like This
This is a simple weather skin that shows the current weather using MSN Weather. The other major site used is Yahoo Weather. The measures are from Poiru's upcoming Gnometer suite.
-Same old, same old
-The first three variables are used to set your location, hi or lo temperature, and what units the temperature is to be displayed in. weather.LH-valid values for this are Hi or Lo. WeatherCode is the most important variables. It is used to find your location. Go to MSN Weather, and set your location. Look for the little RSS icon on the right. The RSS url will have your WeatherCode in it. The url will look like hxxp://weather.msn.com/RSS.aspx?wealocations=wc:#WeatherCode#&weadegreetype=#TemperatureUnit#. Your WeatherCode is the string between #WeatherCode#. Lastly, TemperatureUnit displays the temperature in Fahrenheit or Celcius; valid values are C or F.

This goes to all of my fellow Lesbians&GaysI hate falling for "straight" people. I hate that everyone depends on gender. Honestly, who gives a flying fuck about gender? GENDER. DOESN'T. MATTER. Screw those labels; Lesbian, gay, bisexual. You don't label on love! If a girl happens to like another girl, or a guy happens to like another guy, so let it be! It's only love. There is no shame there. Love is love! What matters is you love someone for who they are, not for what body parts they have. Are they really going to let the fact that they have the same body parts bother them, and think it's wrong? They are only boobs. It's only a vagina. It's only a penis. What's the big deal? If you want to reproduce, do Surrogacy. I don't know about any of you, but I look for a great personality. I don't care what gender you are, I just want a nice little relationship. Is that too much to ask? Ugh.This goes to all of my fellow Lesbians&Gays2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Please forgive me. I needed to rant on this subject.
I would also like to add that, as many of you have noticed, I'm not getting into "technical" t

i've heard from a good friend of mine that it's hard seeing someone you know, for a long time, suddenly change.
I mean... I know it stinks.
Seeing your baby girl grow up, so adorable, so cute, and as she grows up you thought she has become a tomboy. Then suddenly she just comes up to you and says "I'm a man. I'm a boy."
That feeling must be pretty overwhelming, right? I mean, we all have to overcome certain stuff like this. Some of you decide to deny to stop these overwhelming feelings of having to deal with people like these(to top it off, people you LOVE) for the rest of your life. It must be heartbreaking being a friend, classmate or family of a trans person, when the person you knew all your life just dissolved into a completely different substance.
I mean, I guess you could see it as death. A person you see everyday suddenly dies. My aunt died a few months ago and I totally get that feeling. Screaming and crying that she's gone forever.
