This is my entry for the Gears of War 3 contest. I found it interesting because since I was in the third grade I've loved character design and videogame concept art. It's something I've always wanted to do. I read the criteria and thought, "Man, I have to do this!" After looking for references and going through the Asset Pack, I found the Berserker and Anya to be the most intriguing, plus I just enjoy creating females more than males. The concept is pretty basic. I first thought of a versus screen like in a fighting game, thus the title "Anya Vs Berserker". I noticed in a lot of the concept art for the videogame the lighting was very cohesive for the characters, using lots of blues and purples. When approaching this piece I wanted to create something that seemed it belonged in the Gears art world. At first it was very hard to find good reference for the character and monster. Luckily, the game came out on the 20th and I was finally able to find good reference to Anya's back apparatus. Thank god cause it looked like a turtle shell at first! My favorite parts of the piece are the drool and blood, especially the cuts on Anya. I noticed she has a couple of bandaids on her right arm, so I created some nasty scratches to kind of explain why she may have those bandages. (Not sure if there's a real reason in the storyline or not but I guess I just took some artistic liberties.) Overall I'm really happy with the piece. My husband, Marcus, thinks it's my best yet, so we'll see how the crowd responds! Not sure how long it took to create. I worked on it off and on over the past couple weeks when I was off work. Photoshop CS3 Burn and Dodge tools are my friend!
-Please view it in full size to catch all the details. I have it on my wide screen TV and its pretty cool seeing the image that big.
* EDIT: I added my name to it since so many are downloading it... would like for people to know who made it
So here is my entry for the Mama Scared Stiff contest.
It's really just a bunch of urban legends I was told as a kid to keep me out of trouble. Most of them stem from Mexican Folklore.
So let's see, there is La Llorona (The Weeping Woman), The Donkey Lady, La Lechuza (The Owl Lady), Bunny Man, The Headless Priest, El Cucuy (two of them actually), a gigantic monster bird, and a devil.
This is my entry for the Gears of War Contest. Had a lot of issues with this piece because of Corel Painter 12 crashing and adding unwanted artifacts. This is one of the first of several pieces that I used a Windows desktop gadget called activity tracker to time how long I tool on it. I think that I have been over estimating the amount of time for my previous pieces. 29hrs Corel Painter 12 (09-2011)
