Honorable Grandmaster of the Enclave of Thirty Cliffs, Magister of the Elite Royal School, the perpetual delegate of Earth in the Union of the Eight – all these titles Archisoilus, Master of the Ground had achieved on perfectly solid… grounds.
He is universally acclaimed as one of the greatest earth-mages in history: during his long career he had devised a way to withstand furious earthquakes by employing the technique of “floating granite”, single-handedly created a 30-league-long bridge across the Galreean Gulf while the entire city watched him in awe, and had also invented (and made widespread) the practice to magically fertilize barren lands.

Last year, having felt that, as his life drew to a close, powers were leaving him by the day, the Mage finally decided to retire, left his own enormous tower at the crossing of the Five Kingdoms to his successor, and settled in seclusion somewhere in the Mohrland Mires.
There he used the remnants of a ruined fishermen’s village together with some huge prehistoric boulders, their gray tops just rising above the surface of the swamp, to assemble a crude leaning tower, where he could, no longer confined by rank or status, pursue his all-time dream – gardening!

Little did Archisoilus knew that, until the recent “Ban on Magically Modified Plants and Fertilizers” (which, sadly, had caused some famine in the northern provinces, but had also significantly reduced the number of accidents with a talking pumpkin), the enchanted water from the vast fields of Transpretania was being washed by numerous streams and rivers down into the Mires for decades. This couldn’t have no impact on the local flora and, of course, fauna.
So, one day, or, rather, night, Master of the Ground was rudely awakened by a loud munching down below. He immediately hurried onto the balcony, only to face, shall we say, the consequences of his own former agricultural innovations.

In the city of Tuvidia voyeurism is very nearly a way of life. Godiva wouldn’t have made it a few yards here.

It is now hard to say whether the numerous balconies and ledges in the overall vertical structure of the city are the cause or the effect of this. What’s obvious, is that the higher you live, the more people you can spy upon, so the top-level (literally) estates are the most valued and sought after. Also, shatters and canopies are legally prohibited, hence the abundance of vines, which offer at least some cover.

Odd as it may be, the unusual habit has given an enormous boost to the development of science, namely – optics!
Some of the advanced citizens prefer to enjoy a good voyeuristic experience while never getting off their couch, so they order a complex and lengthy periscope, equipped with all fashions of mirrors and lenses, that goes right to their neighbors’. Since these are stunningly expensive, the construction is usually paid by both parties, which results in a device working both ways. Not only this design effectively makes the owners equally exhibitionistic, but sometimes results in quite awkward long distance tęte-ŕ-tęte situations.

Cover for the 4th book in the Children of the Desert series by Leona Wisoker.

Digital painting.

DD Edit:
Wow, thanks everyone. I'm so happy to have the honor of a DD. Many people have wondered about it being a photo or not. It is not a photo, simply a digital painting. It all starts with a white canvas and drawing. If I had known this was going to happen I would have done a tutorial video for you all.

Drawing of some creature or alien. I thought Space-Bison was a good name. Basically wanted to make some fantasy creature, without it being scary or creepy. In my head this was some type of large, grazing-herbivore. Like bison or cattle. But an alien version of that. Things that would live in large herds, eating grasses all day. Periodically attacked by predators. Fantasy predators of course :). Wanted it to make biological sense, even though it's a fantasy animal. I made his mouth sorta beak-like, like a Triceratops. Anyway, probably over-thinking this. Drawn with black Micron pens.
