Image FormatsWhat should I save my image as?Image Formats2 years ago in Other More Like This
Here's a guide explaining each image format and what it's for.
Bitmaps (.DIB, .BMP)
Bitmaps are the most raw form of image data, stored basically as a list of pixels. It is able to have a palette of as many colors as you like. Usually each pixel takes up four bytes, which makes an 800 by 600 image take over 1.8 megabytes. Normal bitmap files have no form of alpha (transparency).
When should I use it?
Never upload a BMP to the internet. The bitmap format has absolutely no advantages over any other file format and it takes up a whole lot of memory (and bandwidth, on the internet.)
