Sorry for the lo res... Im lucky I even found this. Figured I share a old piece of art to show progression.
Since I'm talking about my indie stuff.......
Kids, if I can impart one very BIG lesson on breaking into comics to ya, its this....
If you legitimately feel you have skills and are a up and comer, and someone tries to getcha to do a indie book for peanuts on the basis of " Hey at least I'll get published "......Let me be the first to tell ya...THAT CRAP IS FOR THE BIRDS. ( unless you're fully in a good mindset that you are fully aware and are happy going into it to be run over for the experience.)
You want to be in print? Go down to Fed-ex office, Look on-line for these cool comic printers and get quotes. theres are all kinds of options.
This cover reminds me of the indy days and working for folks that tried to con me into giving up my original art because "Who says you have a right to it .. I'm publishing it...I'll send ya prints of the art." Or " I'll give you a page rate if you agree to give up the art" or You agree to get paid after sales , but almost every sitch you never see what the sales are and you're told they're ALWAYS BAD or lots of other fun stuff you deal with coming up from nothing.
I digress, this is a cover I did that I never thought I'd see again.
Cringeworthy from around '96-'97-ish maybe? Yeah guys, heres some warts and all type stuff...
If you maybe don't get why I cringe...take al look at the scale of the pyramid vs the figures standing at the base. This why doing 3 point full size without laying out can be really tricky.
Anyway. I figured a trip down yesteryear is good chance to help relay my experiences.
All characters are copyright ...uhh oh yeah...Avatar press.
