About the Gods:
Born from the stars, 4 small children awoke in Voleros, a desolate and lifeless world. Terrified of being lost, the children traversed the land, searching for any of their star mothers. While together, a beautiful sense of calm surrounded them. However, when separated, the children noticed something amazing. One boy discovered the sun was always out whenever he walked during the day, and temperatures spiked as he rested, while the girl experienced something completely opposite. Another boy noticed that flowers would grow and bloom near him, while the final girl noticed that the leaves would turn red if she touched them.
Amazed by these powers, and noticing that they didn't happen while together as a group, the children agreed to part ways for a year to improve their skills. Deciding to meet in the middle of a huge lake after that year was up - they named their meeting place Haven, a sacred place for them that no other creature could enter. After th

More 'Breaking into a job with art'...Hi guys! I hope everyone is well! For some strange reason I've been getting an overwhelming number of people asking me about breaking into a job with art all of a sudden @_@More 'Breaking into a job with art'...3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I'll always answer any further questions. (just note me or leave a comment)
But I just wanna refer you guys to some previous writings from other artists I have already posted earlier, and is still really good information if you've missed it.
Even if some of these are comics, I feel like most of the things stated are universal for most art-related jobs. Don't be put off just because you might not be interested in doing comics.

And then I wanna talk about the basic stuff:

About: Frame WarsSo, here's the thing: after working on quite a bunch of board games as an illustrator, I decided to roll up my sleeves and do one of my own! Or better yet, a collaboration with Level 99 Games, with me and Brad Talton (L99's overlord, and creator of board games like BattleCON and Pixel Tactics) working together on the gameplay, and me handling the lore (world, characters, etc) and artwork.About: Frame Wars2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I've always been a big fan of mecha anime, like Gundam, Gaogaigar, TTGL, Getter Robo, etc. Also, it kinda upsets me that us westerns aren't getting much mecha-themes videogames, SPECIALLY the Super Robot Taisen series! I know, licensing's a b*tch, but there's no excuse for the Original Generation spin-offs!
So we started a project of our own, called Frame Wars! This is a combat board game featuring giant robots beating the living crap outta one another (if that alone doesn't get you
Fiction. How redundant is it pointing out these following statements?Fiction.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
There's no such thing as a gigantic mechanical robot fighting off alien monsters. There has never been a report of a man being bitten by a radioactive spider and becoming a hero. You can't summon a mini-tornado at your own beck-n-call, don't matter how much into the occult you are. The odds of a young male teenager having a harem of sexy girls at his every turn is nil. There aren't bipeds of animals that are supposed to be quadrupeds flying spaceships in the galaxy above us. You can't legally hunt and catch thousands of different animals and use them to protect you from other animals and people in a sports-like venue. You can't eat a flower and ignite fire from your hands.
I can go on and on... this journal is probably being expressed because of recent built-up distaste for people bullying others because of what they like when it comes to fiction.
Just to reestablish what it even means, here it is, straight

2D + 3D CommissionsHello, you arrived at my Commisions page2D + 3D Commissions3 years ago in Personal More Like This
If you are interested in getting a CGI image created for you, please continue to the section you are interested in. There are three sections:
2D section covers all kind of colored, shaded images, preferably drawn with outlines.
3D works is about polygonal objects of all kinds, textured and with some post-processing for nice looks.
Vector images refer to things drawn with hard lines and occasional shading, such as blueprints and ink-like drawings.
I do all kinds of art and I'm opened to different styles (vector drawings of a Star Wars ship, 3D render of a Stargate vehicle, blueprint for a Dune tank and of course every kind of original universe objects and scenes) so don't be afraid to ask for anything that you can think of.
You can also check examples of my commisioned work and private gallery works on the bottom of this entry.
I am looking forward to working with you and seeing a happy finish
Please note that preferably I acc
Friday Feature : WoW RefreshSo, World of Warcraft is updating its characters, and whether you play WoW or not, it's kind of a big deal.Friday Feature : WoW Refresh2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
As games age, technology moves forward. Developers can do better work faster and with a lot more wiggle room in terms of Tech requirements, and during the lifespan of a successful MMO, adjustments need to be made. Most companies in the MMO market have not lasted long enough to truly require these changes, but Blizzard has. Like them or not, they are a company that cares about consistent and coherent art. As new updates get pushed out the door, the old work starts to look worse and worse, and the overall look of the game begins to suffer. Thankfully, Blizzard has injected a bit of life into its tired old starting races.
While this update might not bring back the people who left WoW, it will certainly make the existing players a lot happier, and provide us with some inspiration for our own work.

There is always a reason. A level of insult. An unprovoked assault. A threat of invasion. A refusal to negotiate in good faith. A refusal to compromise. There is always something so unbearable that it must be righted with no more delay and by any means, by even the last means, necessary. That final means is war.
Ever since mankind became able to produce and possess more than necessary for survival, there has been a surplus of resources. It is the treasure that has built our civilization and shaped the special magic and glory of what it is to be a human being.
The struggle for control and division of that treasure sometimes infects men’s minds with a unique

I will choose randomly with a favor for interesting OCs and clear understanding of the information given. So don't paste endless stories in the comment beneath. Feed me with the most impo

Now I know thats a little bit harsh language but this excuse really pisses me off. I'm not angry at the person who uses the excuse "they tell me I can't," I'm pissed at the people who tells the person they can't. Seriously, anyone who says you can't do it is making up shit and doesn't know what they're talking about.
I've heard many different variations of this excuse. "THEY" can be your mother, father, brother, sister, best friend, teacher. "They" can be people on forums, or professionals you've talked to that have their head so far up their ass they forgot what it was like to start out. But no matter who "They" are, the fact of the matter is they don't know anything about what you're trying to do. So what qualifies them to judge if you can do it or not?
What reasons did they give you to back up this wild claim of "you can't do it?" Was it because You don't have the education? the skills? Is
CyberbullyingIt's 3 AM and I literately cannot sleep. This is perhaps the most stressful subject I have typed in deviantART, and I don't expect people to agree with me, but.. here I go.Cyberbullying2 years ago in Personal More Like This
The internet is a place where one can freely speak whatever they want. But how free should it be? You can easily type up horrible things about a person and it probably won't affect you. But you know what? This is wrong. Very wrong.
Why do I say this you may ask? Well...
I took part of cyberbullying. And I know, there will be lots of people looking down at me for this, but I will bravely stand here and say the truth.
Now, I didn't necessarily troll or drew something that's downright terrible, but I did gossip. I gossiped around someone's back, and picked on them for being different. My friends and I thought that by picking on one person, it would be funny or "cool".
But do you know how wrong this truly is? This is VERY wrong. It does NOT make you cool or f

5 minutes here for Ninjakato.
"Why do you artists always get so pissed off when someone uses your artwork? You should take it as a compliment!"
"You should take it as a Compliment --"
A compliment would be admiring an artist's work where they post it, and if you really want to use it that badly, complimenting them would be you having enough respect for them to ask first.
Most of us don't get mad because you use it, it's because you use it without asking or pretend you didn't know who/where it came from when there's a link to where you can find the original artist on the image.
Taking someone's car to crash it in a derby isn't a compliment to them any more than taking someone's art to wreck it or claim it is a compliment. More so without asking.
"What about realism artists
The Different Categories of Art TheftIn a particular art-theft report fiasco that my friend had to experience, I decided to clarify what it means to be an art thief. This is a hot topic it seems. Everyone's on a red alert for art thieves these days:The Different Categories of Art Theft5 years ago in Art Features More Like This
At thieves come in different forms and motivations.
An art thief is someone who posts another artist's work and gives PROBABLE CAUSE for others to potentially ASSUME that they were the -original creator- of the artwork.
There are four types of thieves that fall into this definition. Let's call them Type A ("Photobucket/Google Image") thieves, Type B ("Altering") thieves, Type C ("Trace/Copy") thieves, and the most malicious kind, Type D ("Identity Theft") thieves.
A Type A Thief (aka. "Photobucket" Thief):
Comes to DeviantART thinking it's like Photobucket or MySpace, and they post their personal favorite Google Search images because they want to show off their fav
Regarding unemployment / Freelance *UPDATED*From the polycount discussion over here: http://www.polycount.com/forum/showthread.php?t=113798Regarding unemployment / Freelance *UPDATED*3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I get the sense that some HR people (& immigration) look at 'not working inhouse' as being unemployed - mainly because it's so hard to prove exactly how long you were *actually* working on freelance.
If I was to look at it that way, then I've been unemployed for periods of up to 3 years.
I got over worrying about money and financial problems back when I had little to no money to worry about - and I think that's helped me to no end. Life seemed to be stuck on replay when I was in that frame of mind i.e. creating stuff because I HAD to get a job. Years would go by, and it never ever worked out for me, somehow I'd always end up in exactly the same place until I put in the time to find something I enjoyed, and simply worked at that no matter where it took me.
I have friends on my list who have been without a job or freelance work for ages, but they are also the same guys who don't have

Racial Activism and MeHey hey hey! Rob here with another "something-to-get-off-of-his-chest"!Racial Activism and Me3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Time and again, I'm approached by some of my audience asking "Rob, why don't you ever draw black people?" First off, they may have not even looked into my gallery for those people of color or what have you, because they're there, sure enough.
The long answer is:
Well... what gets me is that when they find out I'm black, they expect that I should hold some sort of allegiance to "my race" or "make a change" as a "popular" black artist who can, figuratively speaking, "put blacks on the map".
There's nothing wrong with that, of course, and there's nothing wrong with people whose main goal is doing that. It's their lives, they're free to believe in whatever they want to.
But to hold me to a certain level where people think I'm obligated to draw my race more often than others because of the "history", I don't agree with. I'm an African-American born in the 80s. I was not born during the times of t
