The Forest The Forest
Moonlight filtered through the trees as a young woman wandered aimlessly through the dense forest. An eerie silence hung over the land and nothing dared to break it.
The woman stopped beside a tree and leaned wearily against it. "Oh Sassy," she said, "How did you get yourself into this?"
No answer presented itself to her at that moment. So Sassy brushed her long, brown hair from her eyes and pushed away from the trunk of the tree. "This was supposed to be a fun trip a relaxing visit to the woods but all I get is more stress." She cursed her bad luck.
Her feet moved tentatively forward and the damp leaves quieted her movement. Soon a gentle, but steady, rumbling could be heard. It sounded familiar to Sassy. Instantly she stopped and

Atom dashed through the forest holding his bleeding and injured right thigh. Crashing noises came behind him signaling that the beast was drawing nearer than what he originally suspected.
"Oh why did I have to steal that amulet from the griffin in the first place!" Cried Atom in vain
Poison from the wound started to take affect on him now that his heart rate had picked up. The trees were getting closer and closer the farther in he ran; this made it so the griffin had to slow down and go around more obstacles.
Growing dizzier and sicker from the venom Atom knew he was going to die. Collapsing in a huff onto the ground he finally watched as the griffin drew closer. It stood tall and proud; covered in orange fur and feathers.
Everything was blurry and dist

Accidents can cripple, hurt, and cause destruction. Well a little known fact is; accidents can also reveal secrets dark secrets. Some secrets we keep to save others some we keep just to save our reputations.
Then we have secrets that are kept to protect ourselves from serious harm. I learned this the hard way; now here I am standing before three creatures of legend. Shaking and in fear for my life just because I had an accident.
The day started off like any other day. My small suburban neighborhood was silent like it should be. The forest that was behind our community was alive with only chirpings of birds and other various animals.
I was laying in my front yard soaking up the heat of the day; hoping that summer would go by slowly without anyt

Rock 'n Roll that is the only thing that I live for. Loud music, head banging, partying it was all for the spirit of the music. My parents disowned me for my unnatural love for ear bleeding loud music. They called it trash, but I call it my life force.
Nothing would stop me from buying CD after CD of the stuff. It was funny because I would go home and my mother would yell, "JASON YOU SPENT YOUR CASH ON THAT CRAP AGAIN!?!"
I would just nod and rush past her to my room so I could listen to my new disc. I am sixteen; don't I deserve my own lifestyle different from theirs? Many parents would disagree but the kids thought different. Parents were controlling and that will never change.
One thing that would change though was
Secrets of the Cave Ch. 1Kathleen opened her eyes, looking around the dark room until her eyes settled on the large window. At first she thought there was boy kneeling on the windowsill looking in at her. As a gust of wind blew the curtain farther open she could see that he wasn't human. Bat like wings hung partially folded at his back, as lightning flashed she could see that he had a long scale covered tail that was curled around a tree branch just outside of the window. Scales also appeared to cover the backs of his hands and arms. As another flash a lightning lit the room she noticed that he had small nub like horns at the hairline on his forehead and brilliant blue eyes.Secrets of the Cave Ch. 13 years ago in Introductions & Chapters More Like This
The next flash of lightning was quickly followed by an ear splitting crack that shook the house, causing Kathleen to scream and dive under the covers.

The unforgiving sun scorched the sandy desert below; any creatures that could live in this environment had found some form of protection. It was noon the hottest part of the day a time when you really were not supposed to be wandering the desert without water. Poor James had no other option though as sluggishly moved through the bare wasteland wandering in a blind direction that he hoped would bring civilization. James knew that the chances of civilization being in the direction of which he was traveling were very small; so small in fact that James had wrote his last words in his front pocket in case anyone found him out here.
"Why I just didn't stay home eludes me Minnesota would be nice and cool right about this time of year." James said aloud to himself; loose sand slowed him down even further as he traveled to what would more than likely be his immanent death. "I wonder if they shall serve tea this afternoon?" James pondered; the heat and dehydration were finally a

The rain pounded on my car as I drove up the highway to my college. The sky was cloudy and it was rather chilly. I wanted to get back to the campus soon, or it would be too dark to see where I was driving. It had been a good visit back at mom and dad’s, but they had wanted to visit too long and I’d let time get away from me. It was 9 in the evening…and my housemates would probably be up watching TV or something. I didn’t want them teasing me about returning from home so late…because they’d done that before.
The guys I lived with had long put their family life behind them and very rarely visited their families at home. They often picked on me about visiting my family during certain weekends like this one. Because it was the weekend, I had decided to drive home to visit my mom and dad for a while. Unlike the guys, I missed them and I don’t get to see them very often, especially ever since I started college. They were happy to see me of course,

“What?!” I cried in surprise. “Your family is coming here?”
“Yes.” Yumi giggled. “Of course they will.” I shuddered a little at the thought of more of Yumi’s kind coming to this planet. What if they were discovered? Yumi didn’t seem to realize what a huge deal it was for an alien to arrive on earth in this way. A whole family of them showing up could cause a lot of trouble and it would be a lot harder to cover up.
“When are they coming?” I asked.
“Uncertain…they need a means to get here first.” She whispered, depression in her voice. She walked to my bedroom and took a seat on the bed, her tail coiling around her and resting on her knee like a pillow that the could rest her elbows on. I followed her in and crossed my arms.
“Wait, then how did you get here? Did it have something to do with that I heard on my way here?”
“Yes!” Yumi exclaimed. “You saw where the object

“A noiseless, patient spider,
I mark’d, where, on a little promontory, it stood, isolated;
Mark’d how, to explore the vacant, vast surrounding,
It launch’d forth filament, filament, filament, out of itself;
Ever unreeling them—ever tirelessly speeding them.
And you, O my Soul, where you stand,
Surrounded, surrounded, in measureless oceans of space,
Ceaselessly musing, venturing, throwing,—seeking the spheres, to connect them;
Till the bridge you will need, be form’d—till the ductile anchor hold;
Till the gossamer thread you fling, catch somewhere, O my Soul.”
I smiled to myself as I read the beautiful poem by Walt Whitman. I simply loved poetry…I would write it myself, but then feel downcast when I read the work of an even better poet. I flipped through the pages to find another poem by Whitman while my other hand reached out for a pen and paper. I took a swig of my tea and sighed, leaning back against the wall of the l

Low, dark grey clouds hovered over a wide, short brick building. Wind shook the few trees that stood in the small green yards that lay on either side of the two doors that made up the main entrance. A long gazebo, with a tin roof, hung over the entrance, support from two brick columns held it up. On each side of the doors, four windows peered out from the building. Orange and brown leaves blew down the street, around the numerous cars parked on the curb-side of the road.
Rustling from the leaves echoed through the eerily quiet town. All life seemed to have disappeared from the streets and outside world. Nothing moved or made a sound. The silence was broken by the fall of footsteps on the concrete sidewalk. A teen, dressed in a red winter-coat, blue jeans, and a pair of gray and green Nikes, quickly ran towards the big building. This is whe

Adrian got up early today. He was going to the nearby lake to go fishing. He put on his clothes and took his fishing rod and a small backpack with baits and some bread for himself. He knew that it was dangerous outside of the village. People told him that there were dragons that could swallow a human whole. And even though Adrian had never seen one, he was always a little bit scared when he went out of the village.

"What did you say?" Kim cried. She glanced from the dragon to the boy again. The boy had wandered away from them and was walking toward the cave. He wasn't looking in her direction. The dragon merely nodded.
"It makes sense that you would be skeptical. There is little family resemblance." The dragon puffed his chest out and arched his mighty neck, staring down at Kim with a powerful gaze. "However, perhaps we should get to the topic of you what is your name human?" Kim was terrified shaking in her shoes. What could she say? She was staring a DRAGON in the face and it was asking her for her name! What was her name again? She couldn't speak she couldn't remember! SNAP OUT OF IT!

The girl leaped to her feet and made a dash for the back door. Her legs pumped in an odd way, as her legs seemed to bend backwards rather then forwards, much in the same way that a horses legs acted. Though a large part of me wanted to just let her flee into the rainy night, I couldn’t get over my desire for answers. I rushed after her into the rain. She was already leaping down the stairs, and I wasn’t about to let her get away.
“WAIT!” I shouted. I threw myself at her and we collided. I was surprised at the softness of her skin. She let out a loud cry of fright as we both hit the ground hard. I felt her thrashing and I clutched her leg tightly, keeping her on the ground. “I WANT ANSWERS!” I roared at her.
“Kelvarduut! Par kelvarduut braam!” The girl screamed in some strange and nonsensical language that I couldn’t figure out. I was shocked and almost lost my grip on her. Her free leg shot out and collided with my face as I rolled

The sky had turned dark outside and I was in the kitchen, cleaning up the counter from where Yumi had lost control with the ketchup bottle.
Supper had been nothing short of insanity. As agreed, I had grilled burgers for the two of us so that she could experience what a burger tasted like. When I lit the grill, she touched it to try and see where the fire came from and burned her hand. When we finally got the burgers done, I asked if she wanted cheese or anything on it, and she merely asked me what cheese and ketchup were. She’d never seen pickles before and the only thing she seemed to recognize were the lettuce and tomatoes…but that was only because she mistook them for leaves and fruit from her own planet. In the end, she loved them. She asked for more, so I ended up making her a second burger…and that was when she asked if she could try preparing it herself. And that was how I ended up here cleaning up the ketchup from the counter and walls.

I shivered as I made my way to the library. It was freezing outside, and the snow only made things look even more grey and uncomfortable. I wrapped my arms around my body and tried my best to keep warm. I wasn’t alone in this either, as everyone who was walking down the sidewalk were fighting the unforgiving cold of winter. I looked across the street and saw a man and woman walking hand in hand, and I couldn’t help feeling a big jealous. I had never had a girlfriend before…for some reason, whenever I asked out a girl at school, they’d turn me down, or worse just laugh at me. It had come to the point now that I was actually afraid to talk to girls these days. You can only get rejected so many times.
I came up on the large library and pushed open the glass doors. I was met by the impressive silence and warmth of the library. The shelves were loaded with books and the shelves almost seemed to go on forever. I hadn’t come to the library for anything specific,

The forest was quiet with anticipation as a young brown haired girl stalked her prey. A thick mist had settled over the land making visibility reduced to almost nothing. She carried her bow gently as she searched for a deer.
Vikings were normally quite larger than this young girl but what she lost in size she gained in stealth. This was a test for her to see if she could be like the rest of the Vikings and put some food on the table.
She stood proud as she listened for anything that might lead her to her prey. Her green eyes shone, white teeth adding to their gleam, and a kind face that would make you smile.
This young Viking had a name and she had pride in who she was. She was Sassy; Sassy was kind and caring of others. This trait was not one that was highly looked upon in her clan but it did not stop her.
The quiet surrounding her was broken by a twig snapping a grunt of pain. Once Sassy heard the grunt; her instincts kicked in. Someone was hurt and she needed to help

“You okay, man?” Aaron asked. I didn’t answer him. We were both walking out of class, and I really wasn’t in the mood for a Q&A right now. Aaron was my friend, but he couldn’t know what was really on my mind. No one could.
I had shown up to class late, as I had anticipated I would. The professor had asked me what the delay was, but I only told him that I slept in too late. I couldn’t tell him the truth. Would it have made a difference if I had? He would have just called me a liar. My thoughts drifted back to Yumi. What was she doing now? Would she be okay? Why did I care so much? Perhaps I felt somehow responsible for her.

I sat, watching her sleep on my bed. After that kiss, or knowledge transference thing she did, she had worn herself out completely. I had to help her onto my bed and now she was snoozing peacefully. Her body was filthy from being outside, and now my bed was covered in mud and water…but that was the least of my concerns at this point. The greatest concern I had now was what she had just learned from her.
Everything she had told him was true. There really was a planet far beyond the Milky Way that she called home, and she was lost and afraid. It was like that movie, E.T…although this alien was nothing like E.T. She was lovely to look at…stunning even. Despite her tail, her animal like legs, and her pointed ears, there was an exotic beauty to her…something that was so human and yet so otherworldly. Her face, though sleeping, was caught in a mixture of pain and fear…and yet she seemed so delicate. She was like a flower of some kind.

I walked back inside the house after running to the store for a few hours. Yumi was sitting in the middle of the den, unmoving and completely still, just as I had told her to act. She smiled as I walked in and I tossed her a bag full of clothing. Without knowing her dimensions and size, it was hard to know what kind and what size the clothes needed to be, but I felt that these should do fine.
“Try these on.” I said. “You can’t wander around nude anymore.”
“I do not know how these are…worn.” Yumi muttered. I groaned and rubbed the back of my head.
“Well…that’s a shirt and it is put on…well…I guess I better show you huh?” I asked. I groaned and took off my own shirt. “Okay, so you hold the shirt like this…and you slide it on…like this…” I began slowly going through the steps needed to put on a shirt, sliding my arms carefully through each arm hole and making sure she was foll

She adjusted her glasses slightly and ran a hand through her long, light brown hair.
As she looked to a photo of her and Andrew smiling out of the frame she couldn't help but smile back. Kim and Aaron were both exhausted. Aaron had fallen asleep and was curled up in a ball in the grass. The excitement and the events of the day had been more than he could handle. Kim was sitting next to him, and she was fighting to stay awake. She looked up from where she was sitting, and she could see the image of Christian setting Amy's body down next to a tree. He had been very careful while handling her careful so that he didn't hurt her in anyway. However, she hadn't woken up once during the entire trek.
After he had her leaning against the tree trunk, he stood back up and walked over to Kim. She smiled at him with very tired eyes, but she was struggling to do so. Kim knew the legends of the mountain; each one more crazy than the last one. However, all of the stories had one thing in common: the mountain was home to dragons. Kim shivered to herself as she remembered the stories. Her father owned a shop on the far side of Avendal, and she sometimes worked the counter and she'd heard the stories from hunters and travelers. Some claimed they had seen the dragons of the mountain. Some said that the dragons were evil beasts which waited to devour any human that made their way to the mountain. Others said that the dragons were friendly and loved visitors. However, when she was a child, her father had always warned her that the dragons would come down from the mountain and gobble up disobedient children.
"Could there be dragons up there?" Kim asked. She hiked on through the forest, looking around at the scenery before her. Avendal was far behind her and the sun was rising over the forest. The dew on the blades of grass and the lea

The slightest movement and the sight of everything he saw intrigued him. He had never been this far from his mountain before. Kim felt as if she were leading her little brother around a new town. However, she felt it was kind of strange, but funny to be escorting a boy about her size and age around.
"Where are we going?" Christian asked. Christians voice was still the same as Kims it made Kim laugh to hear her voice coming from Christians mouth.
"I'm taking you to Avendal or what's left of it." Kim said sadly. Her thoughts went back to her family and her friends. Where they alright? Was the griffin still around? Then another thought came to her mind what would her family think of Christian? Would they be able to accept a dragon boy?

These shouts echoed behind her and, with each beat of her heart, she could practically feel them gaining ground. She had to lose them somehow. If the police caught her…if she was thrown in jail…it would all be over. Julia ran as hard as her legs would allow and gripped her only treasure in her arms tightly. It was so beautiful, and it seemed to catch every ray of light that hit it and bounce it back twice as bright. It was the only thing she’d ever stolen that she could never bring herself to sell. She’d been holding onto it for almost 2 years now and she’d grown a sort of attachment to this dragon statue. She had to protect it…she had to keep it.
