DEVIATION NOTES:

This doll, at 22-inches, is much larger than dolls I usually work with, so it's a bit of a challenge to tackle a different scale, not only painting-wise but the logistics of it. Anyhow, the sculpt is really quite beautiful but needed the proper paint treatment to bring Monroe to life.

Full facial repaint as reworking of hair and hair line were all essential to this transformation.

Repaint is a new form of pop art, wherein the doll's face is treated like a three dimensional canvas, with the added challenge of painting within a very small area . Since dolls are basically miniature pieces, brush strokes and shading have to be very controlled and precise.

I have been very busy with other doll projects but I am very pleased to present my latest ebay offering. Diana Ross and her music has been very much a part of my growing up years and many memories of my life back in the Philippines, so creating a celebrity custom doll honoring Ms. Ross was an absolute pleasure.

I use a Mattel production doll for this project. The inset photo at the bottom shows the doll in its original factory state.

As with all my creations, I completely strip the original factory paint on each of the dolls, and completely repaint the facial features in, paying attention to accuracy of likeness and lifelike expressions. The doll also underwent hair rework to match the proportions of the face. .

Repaint is a new form of pop art, wherein the doll's face is treated like a three dimensional canvas, with the added challenge of painting within a very small area . Since dolls are basically miniature pieces, brush strokes and shading have to be very controlled and precise.

This celebrity doll repaint was inspired by Audrey Hepburn's stunning portrayal of Eliza Doolittle from the Oscar-winning musical "My Fair Lady"

I used a 12-inch Mattel Audrey Hepburn doll (see photos) . I completely removed factory facial painting and hand painted it to more faithfully replicate Ms. Hepburn as Eliza. The doll's hair undergone painstaking transformation to faithfully capture the character's look the Embassy ball scene of the movie.

In commemoration of the centenary (100 years) of the Titanic sinking and as a tribute to the re-release of the movie "Titanic" in 3D, I am very pleased to offer my one of a kind creation of Kate Winslet as Rose Dewitt Bukater from the 1997 blockbuster epic.

I have long wanted to create a special custom doll of Rose and this year provided the perfect opportunity for that.

This celebrity doll repaint was inspired by an outtake from the film Gone With The Wind that never made it to the final film. Inset photos shows the doll in different stages of the repaint.

I used a 16-inch Scarlett O'hara doll here produced by Robert Tonner Doll company. I completely removed factory facial painting and hand painted it to more faithfully replicate Vivien Leigh as Scarlett from that particular scene.

The doll's hair has been completely restyled.

Elizabeth Taylor possesses one of the most beautiful faces in Hollywood. This one of a kind custom repaint is inspired by a famous 1948 portrait of then 16 year old Taylor photographed by the brilliant Philippe Halsman.

The base doll used is Franklin Mint's 15-inch Elizabeth Taylor doll. (shown on the bottom left of the picture)

So , as I always do, I completely removed factory facial painting and hand painted the doll to infuse it with the essence and character of Elizabeth Taylor as she appeared for the 1948 Halsman photo session. This was achieved with an exacting level of accuracy as well as shading and layering of colors, some of which are very subtle. To further add to the realism, I carefully painted in the hairline to replicate Taylor's. These were all intended to bring out the luminescence of Taylor's radiant beauty.

The inset photo in the bottom shows the doll as it looked originally before repainting.

You may recall that I have created a repaint of Orlando as Will Turner from Pirates of the Caribbean. This latest one, however, is of Orlando Bloom, the actor, and not as a movie character.

I used a 17-inch Will Turner produced by Robert Tonner Doll company. As is usually the case with mass produced dolls depicting celebrities, the sculpt is spot on but the doll suffers in the facial paint department, which is as crucial a process in capturing likeness.

So, the first order of business was to completely remove factory facial painting. I then hand painted it to bring the likeness of actor Orlando Bloom to life, paying careful attention to lifelike facial expression.

The hair underwent extensive and meticulous restyling. First, I cut the hair to a shorter length. Then I heat permed the hair to give it the needed wave. Finally, I layered the hair by running the scissors along the length of the hair. This also reduces the hair's volume and thickness down to proper scale. Last, I hand painted delicate lines of hair along the hairline for more accuracy and realism. Sideburns were more accurately hand repainted as well.

The bottom inset photo shows the doll as it was originally released.
