How I (Finally) Got Good SkinI get lots of compliments on my skin in my photos. I got told yesterday on my latest set how nice it was. I won't ever deny it; I use photoshop to take out distracting blemishes, but for the most part, my skin is how you see it. I wanted to go into a bit more depth on how I got to this place. This journal may get a bit gross at times, just sayin'How I (Finally) Got Good Skin2 years ago in Personal More Like This
My skin was not always baby-smooth. Throughout my teenage years I had what is known as cystic acne. Life was depressing. I can't say which kind of acne is worse, all-over surface type, or one single giant zit-from-hell in the middle of your forehead. I had the second kind. I was extremely self-concious, and I wouldn't have dared to take stock photos had I not found a way to clear up my skin. Day-to-day, I took my stress out by picking at my skin. You can't see it in my photos now, but I do have some permanent damage from skin-picking. It's a reminder that self-harm is self-harm. You don't have to be taking a razorblade to you
Bullying and What it doesA teacher in New York was teaching her class about bullying and gave them the following exercise to perform. She had the children take a piece of paper and told them to crumple it up, stamp on it and really mess it up but do not rip it. Then she had them unfold the paper, smooth it out and look at how scarred and dirty is was. She then told them to tell it they're sorry. Now even though they said they were sorry and tried to fix the paper, she pointed out all the scars they left behind. And that those scars will never go away no matter how hard they tried to fix it. That is what happens when a child bully's another child, they may say they're sorry but the scars are there forever. The looks on the faces of the children in the classroom told her the message hit home. Pass it on or better yet, if you're a parent or a teacher, do it with your child/children.Bullying and What it does2 years ago in Personal More Like This

Dolling in GeneralI know people have written dozens of deviations and journals explaining this before this one that are better written, but I'm making one too so hush.Dolling in General10 months ago in Personal More Like This
A word people outside of our little bubble usually don't understand. When most people think of "dolls" they think of Barbies, Raggedy Ann, etc. And those are dolls too, absolutely. Usually however, when a doller makes dolls, they are not referring to those things. Dollers make dolls from either traced bases or original bases. What is the difference between these, you ask?
It's simple really.
Traced bases are bases traced from a picture. Usually anime pictures nowadays, although I've seen traced cartoon and comic bases as well. These bases are far less likely to be seen in the pageant crowd, but it does happen on occasion.
Traced bases are NOT bases for My Little Pony, the Lion King, and whatever other animal based thing you can possibly think of to trace. That is for LIN
New! Cubism Messenger Bag Design Challenge!New! Cubism Messenger Bag Design Challenge!2 years ago in Personal More Like This
What comes to mind when you hear the name Pablo Picasso? That’s right, it’s time to break it down, Cubism-style! For the first time ever, we are hosting a Messenger Bag Design Challenge! We want you to create an original design for the flap of the bag in the style of Cubism.
For this challenge, we are defining Cubism as an art style in which instead of depicting objects from one viewpoint, the artist depicts the subject from multiple viewpoints to represent the subject in a greater context. Often, the surfaces intersect at seemingly random angles, removing a coherent sense of depth. The background and object planes interpenetrate one another to create a shallow ambiguous space.
Your design should appear on the flap of the bag (below the zipper), using only <
How to get started with Pixel ArtLately I have frequently been asked what programs I use for pixeling and/or animating and also in general how I go about it. Now I currently don't have the time to create a tutorial of my own but I figured until I will be able to do so I could at least give you some helpful tips and link you to some tutorials made by others. How to get started with Pixel Art2 years ago in Personal More Like This
About the programs I use
I do pretty much all the pixeling itself in Photoshop Elements 8.0 which sadly enough isn't free. But don't worry, in general photshop is even a little overpowered for pixel art, I simply use it because I am most used to it.
Technically you can even use Microsoft Paint for pixeling, after all the only two things you really need to be able to create pixel art is a pen tool and the ability to zoom in far enough. The only real disadvantage about Paint is the lack of transparency support so you can only create pixels with an opaque background.
However I can offer you a really great third optio
