Another new mask for my display in the RAW: Mixology show :3 I actually designed this during a weekend with =SageKorppi and just now got around to actually making it! This is definitely a bit more of an abstract design, as it isn't immediately recognizable as a flying falcon, particularly at different angles. I tried to make the color and forms work together on their own.
Hand shaped and tooled 7-oz leather, painted with acrylics.
While working on the Thunderbird painting for the RARE 2012 Anthro Calendar, I was inspired to create a mask based on this legendary creature. It was a challenge to create a mask incorporating feathers with the jagged lines of lightning.
Hand tooled and shaped 8-oz leather, painted with acrylics.
A commission mask for ~ChrisSawyerArt, of an autumn/fire inspired golden eagle mask, with a crest that would make a harpy eagle jealous. :3
One problem I found myself running into with my really elaborate crested raptor masks was the weight. If you're going to wear it (which is kind of the whole point of a mask!), it needs to be comfortable, and if it's too heavy, it's going to slip and push down on the nose. So with this mask, I used thinner leather for the crest feathers, and it's much lighter than my previous masks! Success!
Hand tooled and shaped 7-oz leather with 4-oz feathers, painted with acrylics.
This is the first of three new mask designs I'm working on for the RAW: Mixology show in July :3 This one is a bit of a mixture of my Summer Bird and my Raven masks, but with autumn colors.
Hand-carved and shaped 7-oz leather, painted with acrylics, and set with a carnelian cabochon.
If you're interested in supporting me at my show, please consider buying a $10 ticket (even if you can't attend!) by clicking the above link, and selecting "Brenda Lyons" from the dropdown menu. I'm offering a 5X7 inch print to anyone who buys a ticket here on DA :D
I apologize for the title, but I've made so many different types of firebird masks I wasn't sure what to call this one. It was a custom design (the preliminary sketch designed mostly by the client). I finished this about a week ago, but only now remembered to upload it.
Hand tooled and shaped 7 oz leather, painted with acrylics. The beak is attached with a frighteningly permanent adhesive and is very sturdy.
Based on the Eternal Phoenix design, this magpie was a request from a client. I must say I really do like how it came out! The iridescence on the tail is more striking in person, but alas, the limitations of photography.
Hand-tooled and shaped 7-oz leather and feathers, and painted with acrylics.
A simple leather eyemask with real feathers! I sort of variation on my Chaos Feathers masks, except less chaos and more real feathers. This is hand-tooled and hand carved from 7-oz leather and painted with acrylics. The leather feathers mirror the iridescence of the real feathers.
A 'sister' piece to my Oak Forest mask, this one with simple green leaves framing the face.
This is also available in my Etsy shop: [link] Sold!
Carved and shaped from 7-oz leather and painted with acrylics. This is actually just one piece of leather - a lot of my other masks have leather leaves or feathers glued on, but everything here is from a single piece of leather.
You can see this mask and the Oak Forest mask together here: [link]
