My entry for the Musically Inspired Design Challenge.
I have never done a T-shirt design before but the idea behind it is about the ability of music to help construct scenarios in our imagination. When I listen to music, I can picture the scenes in my head that fits the mood of the music accordingly. The more I listen to it, the more a story emerges. For me, music paints out my imagination.
A bit of technical info: The headphones are made up of individual music notes and I worked on it, on and off, for a week.
My contest entry, when I was younger I sometimes would dream of being violently attacked by some creature in the dark. Allowing a bare hand or foot to stick out over the edge of the bed would most certainly be a death sentence.
I tried to make it looked deformed, as though the reason they dwell under beds and in closets is due to being too vulnerable to be out in the open, but in the dark where our sense of sight is impaired they would be extremely dangerous. Its back legs are weak, but it possesses phenomenal upper body strength to pull human-sized prey down and tear into them with razor sharp talons to get to the precious bone marrow.
Its eyes are designed to see in the dark, as such they are completely blind during the day. Their mouths are filled with dozens of rows of teeth in order to grind bone.
This is my interpretation of the death plane colossus. I've added as much movement and menace as possible and in the design tried to encapsulate all the elements I think should be inherent in death personified. The dark menace lunges forward clawing at your very soul, taking on many forms, cracking, shifting shape, the threat of death is closer than your breath. The plane of death has been given a terrifying form.
I wanted to try a more dramatic lighting scheme with my first piece and as I really like the tone I thought I would add this as well Once again I hope you enjoy this and please let me know your thoughts.
This one is for the "So I herd u liek progress? A Fan Art Contest"!! You can find the article right here: [link]
So this was a lot of fun. Finding a fanart piece I did and felt like revamping was tricky, ended up going far back into art I made and rather forget at this point, but it's allll part of the progress, right? So yeah, I landed on a piece I made in 2005:
Good times Anyway, my re-interpretation/revamp is obviously the drawing you're viewing!
It's a fanart of Rapunzel, the way I pictured her when reading the Grimm Fairy tales - not the Disney version I kept the same format as I put it in 2005 and played with the hair like I did then. I remember trying to touch the 'Art Nouveau' style when working on the 2005 version (I failed, but that's okay ), and so I kept that thought somewhat in mind while working on this 2011 version!
I'm pleased with it! Hope you all enjoy as well
