FYI My longest post on PC ever. Sorry in advance - OP I hope there's something useful in this for you. I'm back in your thread and giving you my morning before breakfast, is my way of saying ' I care '.
Usually between 1 - 5 NEW students, per day come to me for random pieces of advice. Some from here @ PC , some from Deviant Art - Mostly from Deviant art.
It's always the same questions maybe worded slightly differently and I do my best to answer every single time, every single message. Sometimes I get behind and have to catch up at the end of the week but I do my best.
As well as those, I did 2 10+ question interviews last week, on my time, for students who were still in school. For school essays, papers, projects etc that contain the same questions they always do.
I'm exposed to 'all this' *makes a big circle shape with hands* on a fairly constant basis. Everything that encompasses 'young artists trying to find their way in this scary fucking

TO THE ASPIRING ARTISTS OUT THERE...." I haven't reached the point where I think I'm good at this. that's the drive. i know that its in me to be really good at it. and i think i've come close a few times, but i don't usually look at things i've completed and feel content. Which that means the next thing you start, you go in with that attitude that 'this time, I'm gonna get it right.' it doesnt mean you hate everything you do, but i'm never content. And maybe i never will be but i secretly know that that's what makes you grow." - Jamie HewlettTO THE ASPIRING ARTISTS OUT THERE....2 years ago in Personal More Like This

The core to all of this for me if, youre gunning to be an artist is to shape your life around being exactly that. Reduce as much of the clutter as possible, and avoid all the things that can be used as an excuse to not be doing what you should be doing, which is making art. Not because you have to, but because you love doing it.
Heres Uncle Haz's 3 step plan to help you discover that happy place!
If you dont love making art or are finding it frustrating, somethings

I'm only going off of my own personal experiences talking about these few things. (And I'm not specifically talking about ONLY dA here.) So take it with as many grains of salt as you can.
I've recently been asked questions like "How do I get people to see my work?", "Why am I not receiving commission inquiries?", "Why isn't anyone following my work?", "What can I do to get better?". Often, and I answered it before, the answer is as simple as this:
Create, as in, DRAW. PAINT. RENDER. SCULPT. You have to do develop a tolerance (or the obvious definition: LOVE) for creating if you want exposure and to get better. You have to LOVE the drawing or illustration that you HATE how it came out in the end. You have to ask yourself after every piece, what could I have done to do that differently. And you have to do this frequently.
Some folks come on the scene, post once or twice a week, and expect an audience to flock yo

I didn't loathe at myself wishing that I could "draw feet" when working on a piece at the spot where I have to draw feet on the picture.
I didn't go to further schooling to let someone hand me a piece of paper on their own terms and timeframe telling me if I'm "capable of art" or not.
I took things into my own hands.
A couple of common phrases to make to artists who are (of the person who believes that they're) "inexplicably too good" that annoy me are:
"Ugh, I really wish I had your talent. Why are you so good!?"
"You're so lucky. I wish I could do what you do".
"I could never pull this off the way you pull it off."
Now, I understand that there are certain levels of aptitudes and paces that different people learn by, so don't get the idea of this entry wrong. But, really, let me make an illustration here:

TO YOU ASPIRING ARTISTS...FROM JOE MADUREIRAHere's some of the most amazing and invaluable advice you'll most-likely ever get from one of my good colleagues and legends in comics/gaming, creator JOE MADUREIRA. "DO YOU REALLY WANT TO BE A SUCCESSFUL ARTIST?
Or a successful WORKING PROFESSIONAL?
Believe it or not there is a difference. I'm not usually a soapbox type guy, I don't like instructing people, and I think I'm a terrible teacher. But hey, it's Friday and I'm in a strange mood. So here goes:
I've noticed that a good number of my fans happen to be aspiring artists themselves. This is for all you guys. I get asked constantly: "Where should I go to school?" "What classes should I take?" "What should I study for anatomy?" "What pencils and paper do you use?" "Should I be working digitally now instead of traditionally?" "How do I fix my poses? Learn composition? Perspective?" "When

Greetings internet. A majority of you know :icontompreston: Tom Preston/Andrew Dobson as a notoriously obstinate and degenerative artist who likes to argue irrational views and give toxic advice to teenagers on Deviant Art. Back in The Great Giraffe Holocaust of '13 we took note of how he would ask for commissions, then spend hours writing journals and answering comments and possibly erasing invisible giraffes. We told him he should work on his commissions more, and he retorted that we weren't 'his boss' because we hadn't commissioned him.
It's impossible to prove whether or not the secret eraser is himself, his fans, or both, but we could prove he wasn't actually working on commissions. Myself, :IconEvilTomP:, :IconRabbitMaskedMan:, and a few other unhealthily obsessed EDiots devised a plan to pool our money together for a commission. None of us wanted to shell out a full 45 dollars for a

"Why am I not getting anywhere in my art? What can I do to get better? No one is liking my work, how can I get more people to like my work so they can pay me?"
The real question you should be asking yourselves is:
"Why am I drawing?"
I mean, I take a look all the time at people who may not be skilled or whatever, and I'm sure they don't feel the best about their work (or they may), but they always have something to say that made them feel good while drawing it. Saw a sunset beach picture earlier that someone drew/painted and of course, it's not professional-looking at all. What ringed to me was the fact that in their comments, they said they "enjoyed it and was a relaxing piece". Not complaining about how the sand looks too crappy or the colors in the s

Sheesh you guys how long has it been since my last artbook post? Seems like forever! I think before Christmas?
Well I still have lots of books that I want to share, just been too lazy. LOL.

Anyway - this book is made of pure awesome! And there are two more volumes besides this one! Gainax never fails to deliver some qualitayyy. I really wish I had their FLCL book with the Genga and Douga like this one. But it is SOOOO expensive and hard to find nowadays.
soooo - On to the pictures I suppose. . .
Please note that these images are LARGE. So if you aren't viewing on a huge screen, DA is probably choppin' em down.

it's driving me nuts how many artists
give up doing art because of people or their situation.
So I wanna tell you my story, growing up and becoming an artist.
The reason I'm writing this out is because I really wanna be able to inspire, even if I'm not the greatest of artists.
I know for a fact, manga artists have much more hardship trying to become famous than painters and sculptor's etc.
Because there's just some idiots out there that think all anime is Sailer Moon, and who LOVES to control your life more than other people. Parents, friends w/e
My parents were very against the idea of me doing manga in the future, being famous and stuff.
It's childish, you're gonna be poor, you're gonna ruin your studies. My teachers weren't any better.
My real-life friends were either against, unsupportive or ignorant about doing manga art.
And being in my country with little population, that I can understand.
At this point, a lot of manga artists out there would give u

Theft of OC and copyright of OCsI want to address a problem on Deviantart and over the internet, about so called "OC theft".Theft of OC and copyright of OCs1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Please Keep in mind that I am no lawyer even if I will use law-related terms. And that English is my Third language.
Let us begin :
At some point when you create OCs , you may find yourself face to face with a OCs which can be almost identical. Unfortunately, one common indicator of uploading creations online is the proportion of individuals who will attempt copy, borrow or steal the design of your original character. Or simply create something similar without the attention of stealing.
Many are have been frustrated by several of copies or downright theft of OC without a single note or email asking them of permission. And many find this less than flattering, more or less find it offensive to have somebody copy or steal content you created. Even if they copied it. And some just came up with the same idea. And never knew of your creation.
But remember how copyright works:<
