“It's probably a true to say I would not be a professional artist were it not for DeviantArt. When I joined the site 11 years ago I didn't want to be an artist, I just wanted to draw; I never imagined this place would help carve my career in art. But then I never expected a lot of what happened to me to happen. My early works were filled with fantasy, but art grew to be more than just a creative outlet for me, it grew to be an emotional one. As times got darker so did my work, drawing gave me a channel to explore and express my feelings, and through DeviantArt, I could connect, and it's been these personal connections, to thousands of people, of

death vigil out in julydeath vigil out in july2 years ago in Personal More Like This
so, this july i am starting death vigil, published by image/top cow. it will be a monthly series limited to three 8-issue arcs, so there is a definitive ending. with this i have learned some of the things about publishing independent comics, and i am planning a video with some tips after i summarize my experiences. hopefully it will prove helpful for others to get their stuff published
but apparently rule 1 is promote preorders. preorders are crucial for independent books as they define the print runs, and are crucial to the sucess of the book.. so.. as my far more experienced friends told me to do....
death vigil is preorderable ...pretty much in any place or webstore that carries US comics.
you can find an extensive preview to issue 1 and much more here
now, for some frequently asked questions
what about ravine? ron marz assured me that he will be
Fisheye Placebo ImagesI saw this awesome Fisheye Placebo music video by Linda Neumann and realized that it would probably be easier for music video editors and language translators to have a textless version of all of the panels so here it is https://www.dropbox.com/sh/84jcondrsylfh82/pVEbp8d1QqFisheye Placebo Images2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Feel free to download the images for any class projects, music videos, translations, etc. Please credit and remember that I drew these for everyone to read for free, so do not try to sell or profit from my work in anyway. If I find people charging others for translated versions of this story, or selling copies of my work, I will be very angry ):
That aside, check out the cool video! She did a wonderful job editing everything

It's okay. Don't panic. I'm here to set the record straight (along with some help with my friend David Tennant).
You may have heard this or something like this before. Unfortunately, there are people who believe that how good your photography is is largely based on what DSLR (digital single-lens reflex) camera you have in your hands and not what you yourself can do. Sometimes, it's peo

Fabric, thread, machines, paints, wood, tools, thermoplastics, LEDs, mould castings, brushes, dyes, wigs, make-up, contacts, boots, prosthetics, convention tickets, travel expenses, luggage, skin care, gym... the list goes on and on. Every single cent we earn, we constantly throw it all back into making our beloved costumes and feeling good for a few hours while stressing for months prior-hand. Non-cosplayers may not get it, but we do. For us, it's not a sacrifice. The chance to hone our creative spirit and create something from nothing is a rewarding life experience. Some think that the cost of an outfit is more valuable compared to medication and psychological sessions.
But like it not, we've all gotta come to a conclusion that the hobby must come to an end for us one day, and to have some money saved up for your next step in life is a greater advantage than having nothi

In The Shadow of Dragons
"Is the time of daring deeds forgotten, and spent the fire of men? The bravery sheathed, the proud hearts withered? In the scorched trails of our foes’ fury, even wizards’ spells knelt and warriors’ will bent; yet Dawn’s struggle beneath the burning clouds, within the shadow of dragons, has won her the eastern sky. Shall battle drums thunder once more, and mithril–clad soldiers brave again the terrors of the skies?"

I guess this will be about cosplay and just little things that are going on with me (that are related to cosplay).
I have been talking with takisiski trying to plan out what we're going to do. We keep getting distracted lol So here is a list of possible cosplay that will be done by ALA 2012.
- Claude Faustus (Most likely to be done)
- Tsugaru (Alternate of Shizuo Heiwajima/ also likely to be done)
- Nezumi from No. 6
- Gamzee (Either Militarystuck or this other fancy version) (+ regular?)
- Zuko (Either the outfit he wears when he joins the gaang, OR older Zuko)
***Edit: Claude and Militarystuck Gamzee for sure now by ALA
- Maybe PMX? (Doesn't seem too likely though. It's so small and was super lame last year so I don't mind too much)
- ALA (Only con I can really think of tha

Starting off, we have my all time favorites!
Simplifying the figure: This is my very favorite anatomy deviation and I still come back to it when I need to amp myself up for drawing some anatomies. It’s just so simplified yet still accurate! It makes breaking down the body into simple shapes easier to understand. When I start working out a person’s anatomy, this is what they’ll look like, because details get in the way at that point and structure and form are what’s important to get down.
Muscles: One of the best resources on the internet for anatomy is

It means that when scaling an object, the volume increases faster than the area.
You can't just double the size of an animal and have it work the same way. It may look twice as long and twice as high, but it will be octuple the weight.
2 x 2 gives you the area, which is 4, and to get volume you have to multiply by 2 again. 4 x 2 = 8.
Volume is measured in cubic units, remember--meaning it's the product of three values, not two, like area is.
"If an animal were isometrically scaled up by a considerable amount, its relative muscular strength would be severely reduced, since the cross section of its muscles would increase by the square of the scaling factor while its mass would increase by the cube of the scaling facto
Pride Flags Colors explained!I'll try to list as many pride colors as I can think of.Pride Flags Colors explained!3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Gay Pride (Rainbow - Gay, Gay Men, Lesbians, and sometimes the entire Queer community. The rainbow represents acceptance of all sexual orientations.)
Labrys Lesbian Pride (Purple with Labrys in inverted black triangle [different versions exist] - Lesbians, women, and feminism, and gynephilic people who identify as female. Labrys became a symbol of lesbians and feminists due to the popularity of a female empowerment publication called Labrys Magazine. In addition, the black triangle is a symbol of lesbians due to the fact that many lesbians were forced to wear it in concentration camps during the Holocaust under the idea that they were "asocial" and did not conform to heteronormativity).
Bisexual Pride (Pink, Purple, and Blue - Bisexuals and sometimes all multisexual/non-monosexual/multiple gender attracted people.)
Here is our very basic TOU for everyone.

Tips for Starting Commissions I was thinking about my last journal, where I asked why everyone and their cat wanted to sell commissions so badly. I recieved some really insightful answers.Tips for Starting Commissions2 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
I also had a lot of people asking me "How much should I charge for my work?"
I'll add a Disclaimer right here in front, as for whatever reason, something always offends someone :iconstunplz: . So I'll start off by saying, this is just my personal journal, and I'm just one person who has some experience with this. I'm not making a judgment on who should sell what, just writing some things I have personally learned along the way.
Well that's out of the way :iconyodawgplz:
So most artists starting off go through a period of confusion on how to price work. They get a lot of suggestions, or theories from well-meaning people such as:
"Artists always undervalue themselves. Don't charge less than minimum wage per hour"
This is true, and I agree. However, unfortunately,

This is a thing people often wonder and think it's a complicated to find out, but it is actually pretty simple. It's a different question you need to ask yourself based on different topics.
As for: Fuck talent! You'll find it if you scroll down
Topic 1: Am I on the right track to becoming a better artist?
Does your work from today, look closer to your initial goal than your work from last week? (this needs to be both in skill and idea.)
Good skills: Honing your technique, training you muscle memory, being more knowledgeable about your tools and art rules. With art rules I mean: Perspective, form, light, texture, composition.
Good ideas: Storytelling, characteristics, charm, emotion and design. Not just making things look polished but also convey something more, something that brings it to life and speaks to pe
Being happy with your artI've noticed lately, that there's this emotion that leaves people overwhelmed with the massive amount of good art in the community, thinking that they can never become as good or popular as those others. So sad, because skill or popularity in itself shouldn't be the major goal of an art community. I think many people who start out here get so overwhelmed that they forget what it's actually about.Being happy with your art2 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Many people out here, sign up to DeviantArt (or any internet art community) in order to publish their work on the internet. They've probably looked around for a while already. They saw those amazing artists that had millions of pageviews, and secretly hoped that by putting their art on the internet, they would be able to do the same. To become madly popular -- a community icon.
Well, sorry to burst your bubble; but it's probably not gonna happen. And if it's gonna happen; it's not going to be soon.
According to DeviantArt, the website has over 31 million

Alrighty! I mentioned doing a big ol' feature in my last journal and I thought tonight might be a good a time as any to make good on that promise
Because no one e-mailed in a piece they wanted showcased (my fault. should have made the process easier. Will keep in mind for the future) I decided to break the rules a bit and promote a handfull of works that I personally love. Each one of these pieces have at one time or another brought me inspiration and a renewed appreciation for both the art and the artists who have refined their craft. It's a pleasure being a part of this community and I don't know where I'd be without the constant stream of awesome that flows in and out of these online galleries. Thank you all for doing what you do best!
I tried splitting this up into categories that makes sense to me. So if you're like "what the heck?? why is this piece in here??" it'
