PE Daily Deviations - So you want to suggest DDs?You're browsing deviantART or are simply checking your message centre and find a wonderful art piece. You want to suggest it as a Daily Deviation because you believe it truly deserves to be seen by the community as a whole. But how to properly suggest a DD? This article will explain the process.PE Daily Deviations - So you want to suggest DDs?2 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Things to check before sending a suggestion:
The first thing you need to check is if the artist has been given a Daily Deviation in the past 6 months. Volunteers cannot feature anyone who's had a DD in that period of time with no exceptions, as this has been hard-coded into deviantART's system.
"But how do I check an artist's Daily Deviations?" you may ask. Simply go to their gallery, click browse and scroll down. If they have any DDs, you'll be able to find a link to them at the bottom of the page. Alternatively, you can add "/dds" after their profile url and click enter on your browser's address bar.

~rankirubai asks "In what ways has Shaun helped your art and creativity improve? What kinds of insights on art, character design, storytelling, etc has he given you?"
Before I met Shaun (`endling) I was pretty much on my own when it came to art, looking things up and reading tutorials etc. It's been really hard sometimes.
Nowadays, he's the person I talk to all the time, discussing art and stories and games and such. it's really important to me to have another opinion on my work, especially from someone
So you've decided to talk to an artistHey everybody, this is going around over on tumblr, but I feel like it's just as relevant here and it's a really good informational post for people that have/want to have good dealings and interactions with online artists. Because seriously, these are really good things to know. (I mean, I've been pestered by almost all of these at some point or another, and if people had read these they might have saved me a lot of annoyance) So give it a read if you'd like. The original post comes from www.phantom42.tumblr.comSo you've decided to talk to an artist7 months ago in Personal More Like This
Don’t tell an artist, “SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!" or "I would totally buy that!" if you’re not ready and/or willing to back it up with an actual purchase. Artists love that you love the piece, but often produce pieces/quantities based on apparent interest and potential customers. Gauges of potential buyers and gauges of general interest are both very important, but they are very different.
"I want to be a better artist."This is a sentiment I hear often on dA. It's usually followed by a question regarding how one should go ABOUT becoming a better artist."I want to be a better artist."4 years ago in Personal More Like This
I've no doubt made journals like this in the past, but here's another one. This page was in dire need of an update, either way. : )
I could probably talk your ear off for a mile and a half about why I should be the last person you ask for creativity-boosting advice. Aaaand I have my reasons for this, but that's not really what anyone who writes me wants to hear, I think. It's just a fair warning. I'm not an accredited teacher, I was far from the most capable person at my college, I've made a metric crapton of mistakes, and I am nowhere near where I'd like to be in my own personal artistic endeavors. If that doesn't bother you, well, keep on reading!
The best way I could aid anyone interested in bettering themselves would probably be by giving you the advice that inspires me the most. Stuff I've heard from frie

Are you interested in trying our Official Photomanipulation Tutorial Challenge but unsure of where to begin? Look no further! Here are some tips about creating a tutorial that is easy for you to write and easy for us to understand. We hope these pointers will be useful to you; as always, feel free to leave questions or comments.
1. Sit down and really think about what you are good at doing
What do people compliment you about most frequently? What are you most proud of in your manipulations so far? It could be anything, from the way you select and cut out stock to the way you make your colors pop. Start from your strength, something you can talk about with ease.
2. Take the pressure off!
No matter how "good" someone is at photomanipulation already, they still have something interesting to le
Elements And Principles--Art 101I wrote this article for my members at ManipulateThis when I found that most of them had no idea what I was speaking about when I try to explain something in their deviation concerning a principle or element of design. So, since this is PhotoManipulation month, I thought I'd educate those of you who did not know about the Elements And Principles of design, and how to use the Elements to help you add pizazz to your deviations.Elements And Principles--Art 1012 years ago in Personal More Like This
Elements and Principles of Design
Question: What is meant by the Elements and Principles of Design?
Answer: Elements are the parts of a design, and the Principles are ways to use the parts.</b>
All art is comprised of Elements being arranged following the rules set by the Principles. Knowing the Elements and Principles can help you create more dynamic images. You must know and understand the rules that the Principles are based on before you can break away from them.
Overcome your unfair obstacles. We all have certain obstacles that gives us the feeling of: 'This is so unfair!.'Overcome your unfair obstacles.6 months ago in Personal More Like This
To me it's one of the most annoying feelings in the world because in general we don't really know how to deal with it. One little part of us says: 'Don't whine about it, you are just being jealous.' the other part of you tells you: 'If I didn't have this obstacle or disability I would rule the world!!'
So you bounce around anger, sadness, hopelessness and envy.
If you were just sad about something or simply angry it would be a lot easier to deal with, you cry or you just vent a bit towards a friend.
But how to deal with he feeling of unfairness?
There are many things that can form this unfair obstacle for you.
Physical obstacles such as: MS, Lyme disease, Arthritis, Color blindness, missing fingers?
Mental obstacles such as: Depression, being a procrastinator (yes I'm naming it because it's a mental blockade that keeps y

OBJECTIVE: SELL THIS DAMN BOOK, DANNY.
At first, Gabriel was nothing more than a character named ONE. He had no backstory, no face, nothing. I just wanted to create a character that was a badass, yet with a sense of humor.
I was inspired by such characters as Boba Fett, Wolverine, Deadpool and Clint Eastwood from The Man With No Name trilogy. I needed to create something that fit that build, however, I'll admit, it wasn't intended at first.
I uploaded him on December 8th, 2008, (which, you can find here: http://danluvisiart.deviantart.com/art/GABRIEL-107612010?q=gallery%3Adanluvisiart%2F7848546&qo=50) and he became one of the most popular characters of the series, if not, the most. Soon I started finding him on forums, websites, fashion blogs (what?), and more.
But what hit me so hard was that the majority of the comments rela
What is your Drawing Skill Level? All of the images featured in this article come from archives of my own work so not to impose unwanted criticism. The intention of this article is not to categorize artists, but to categorize similarities of different skill levels of representational drawing. Please also note that skill level in representational drawing does not equate to the worth of an artist's creative ability. But skill in representational drawing is very important to have in a lot of art disciplines. It is a skill that takes a lifetime to learn. Skill does not come from talent. Instead, talent affects the perseverance, discipline, and desire of the individual to develop skill. What is your Drawing Skill Level?1 year ago in Personal More Like This
What is Representational Drawing? Representational drawing is a fancy way of saying trying to re-create something you see in real life on paper (or whatever you are drawing on). When we turn about 10 or 11 years old, or brains begin to develop a different perception of visual space than what we could understand before in the earlier y

OBJECTIVE: CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT AND STORY BUILDING
I began working pretty heavily on LMS during the first quarter of 2009. I had now a handful of characters, a rough idea of the story, and a general scope of what I wanted the book to be. To get started, I felt every book should have a theme. Movies do, right?
Spider-Man: Great powers, great responsibility.
Batman: Be more than just a man, a symbol, and be remembered a legend.
Star Wars: The myth of a heroes destiny, and the truth that allows him to be set free.
Who was Gabriel? What type of character or archetype was he? What were his rises and

So often, I get people asking for my secrets, praying to some god to give them what I have, asking me for my Photoshop brushes, joking that I must have sold my soul to Satan, that I must be cheating somehow, asking what programs I use in hopes that there is some magic "art button."
I'm sorry but...... No.
There are no secrets. No god and no devil had anything to do with it. There are no magic Photoshop brushes. There is no magic art button. There are no magic programs that will do the work for you. You can get Poser- some of the images that come out of it are lovely and if that makes you happy, fine. But if you want to do more than play with 3D paper dolls, to make your own art, to realize the wildest imaginings of your dreams exactly how you see them....

Please take any questions related to buying from specific companies to the company websites, they all have Q&A boards for that specific purpose, from now on I wont be responding to such questions as I am not a company rep.
Please bare in mind that this FAQ is intended to answer questions that I get asked regularly about my own dolls. While I have been in the hobby for a few years now I can't claim to know everything there is to know about BJDs, especially when it comes to companies I have little to no personal interest in. If you do have general questions about BJDs rather than ones specific to my photography or my dolls please do a search over on DOA ( http://www.denofangels.com/forums/index.php ) first. I will attempt to answer any questions I can but please understand I never intended this as a question and answer about the hobby or doll buying in general.

I got the definitive word last week that Disney won't be picking up a second season of Motorcity. I want to thank you guys for doing such an amazing job on this series. Everyone on the crew stepped up to an unbelievable degree. I feel like we did exactly what we set out to do - push the quality of television animation and deliver a show that's never been seen before. You guys are the greatest, most talented crew I've had the pleasure to work with. It's my sincere goal to continue to stretch the boundaries of animation with every one of you on many projects in the future!
Thank you so much for your incredibly hard work and passion. It shows in every frame.
Titmouse will always be making new shows that are more fun and fresh that those who only care about ratings and money. still few episodes left. enjoy! Motorcity forever.

- I do not mind if you draw Locks. You can draw random Locks all day long.
- You can draw random Locks interacting with your own personal characters.
- You may draw any of my characters, or any of yours interacting with mine.
I only have 3 rules:
- Absolutely no porn, or sex. They are not sexual creatures at all.
- Keep it canon. Locks are supposed to look and act a certain way. Please respect the IP you are playing with.
- I am not interested in Lock OCs, PLEASE do not go there.
With one huge, very important additional rule:
The Lock concept does not belong in your book, your graphic novel, or whatever personal project you are working on. It has its place with me, its creator, in t

Of Course, I’m not exposed to every school in the world but from my general knowledge, personal experience and some basic logic: School is way too expensive to attend, especially if it takes you years later to get a decent job after graduation.
Here are three reasons why I’m not happy with most, not all, colleges in america. Especially for artists.
IT COSTS WAY TOO MUCH MONEY! I hear now that some art schools are charging $30,000 a year, for three years. That’s $90,000 of debt. Most professionals in my field of concept art don’t make that in a yearly salary. It’s more expensive than some medical schools and that’s becoming a doctor of some sort. So why is it so expensive? Doesn't matter, it just is.
Think about it this way. You are about to invest almost a tenth of a million dollars for the promise of being a capable person in the industry. But by the end, all you get is a piece of paper and a
