The FAQ :: Updated 12/02/11ImportantThe FAQ :: Updated 12/02/114 years ago in Personal More Like This
Please take any questions related to buying from specific companies to the company websites, they all have Q&A boards for that specific purpose, from now on I wont be responding to such questions as I am not a company rep.
Please bare in mind that this FAQ is intended to answer questions that I get asked regularly about my own dolls. While I have been in the hobby for a few years now I can't claim to know everything there is to know about BJDs, especially when it comes to companies I have little to no personal interest in. If you do have general questions about BJDs rather than ones specific to my photography or my dolls please do a search over on DOA ( http://www.denofangels.com/forums/index.php ) first. I will attempt to answer any questions I can but please understand I never intended this as a question and answer about the hobby or doll buying in general.
If the below doesn't answer your question then please feel

'You thought I was helpful!' Reverse Feature!Yeah okay, so I was searching myself on DA, just to see what came up. Lots of people who found my tutorials and resources helpful, is what! This is really cool, it makes me happy to know that a lot of the things I've done in the past few years have helped inspire and influence people to try something new, try something hard, to really push themselves forward! Whether it be practicing perspective, color theory, or just trying something new with my brush set, this journal is a selection of the stuff that really popped out at me, and to say thanks! This is a little celebration of all of you putting in hard work to get out of your comfort zones.'You thought I was helpful!' Reverse Feature!2 years ago in Personal More Like This

Take your art to higher lever in 4 simple steps!
For people who are serious about drawing and want to make career in art! And for me to stop getting questions on how to practice, or how do you get better
Are you stuck and don't know how to carry on making great art?
You just want to draw better?
If an answer to any of these questions is 'yes' then you might find this interesting...
Since the only thing I ever acknowledged myself good at is getting better I decided to share a couple of tricks.
I truly believe it works in every single case.
It's true. You can get out now or shut up and listen and get better.
(oh and do I need to mention that you need to draw a lot to get better?
I didn't draw a lot and still got better because I followed the steps listed below. But yeah, may not work without drawing a lot...)
Step 1. Honesty.
Be aware of your own limitations. They're usually bigger than you really think, despite what people say. I won't be talking about fals

Of Course, I’m not exposed to every school in the world but from my general knowledge, personal experience and some basic logic: School is way too expensive to attend, especially if it takes you years later to get a decent job after graduation.
Here are three reasons why I’m not happy with most, not all, colleges in america. Especially for artists.
IT COSTS WAY TOO MUCH MONEY! I hear now that some art schools are charging $30,000 a year, for three years. That’s $90,000 of debt. Most professionals in my field of concept art don’t make that in a yearly salary. It’s more expensive than some medical schools and that’s becoming a doctor of some sort. So why is it so expensive? Doesn't matter, it just is.
Think about it this way. You are about to invest almost a tenth of a million dollars for the promise of being a capable person in the industry. But by the end, all you get is a piece of paper and a

Stanley Lau a.k.a. Artgerm is a busy child as an illustrator, designer, concept artist and art director. Born and bred in Hong Kong, he soaked up his creativity and interest in arts early on and trained his artistic skills and knowledge ever since in a never-ending process. He is also founder of his own advertising & design agency and a t-shirt label, and when Stanley is not working on any of these, he can be found playing video games across many platforms or the occasional karaoke session. If you are society's bitch, this is very likely what your "happy" life blue print will look like. Almost everyone does this, and it's not a coincidence: people do as they are told. Told by the movies, by their friends and family, books, tradition, religion, even government subsidies, and the education system, conditioned into obedience. A Note on Drawing Locks (no OCs please)Hi guys. I don't like posting stuff like this but it's gotten to the point where it needs to happen. This is just to let you all know the Locks are NOT an open species. Maybe they will be in the future, but not right now.A Note on Drawing Locks (no OCs please)2 years ago in Personal More Like This
- I do not mind if you draw Locks. You can draw random Locks all day long.
- You can draw random Locks interacting with your own personal characters.
- You may draw any of my characters, or any of yours interacting with mine.
I only have 3 rules:
- Absolutely no porn, or sex. They are not sexual creatures at all.
- Keep it canon. Locks are supposed to look and act a certain way. Please respect the IP you are playing with.
- I am not interested in Lock OCs, PLEASE do not go there.
With one huge, very important additional rule:
The Lock concept does not belong in your book, your graphic novel, or whatever personal project you are working on. It has its place with me, its creator, in t

World-building, for me, is one of the biggest things about fantasy. It has, in many cases, saved a book from sucking. Conversely, poor world-building can drag a brilliant plot and excellent characterization down. What is world-building? It is consistency of logic and the new rules that you introduce as part of the story. Easy to say, hard to do. World-building, in good fantasy, more often than not, provides some kind of critical plot point. (If it doesn't, that's okay, but really good fantasy usually takes an established rule and gives it story stakes.)
Examples? Phillip Pullman establishes the rule of daemons in his His Dark Materials trilog

Duck Dynasty gay hating guy is RIGHTHere's the controversial quote by Phil Robertson -Duck Dynasty gay hating guy is RIGHT7 months ago in Personal More Like This
“Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there — bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men.”
First of all, nobody's up in arms defending adultery and bestiality. I do find that interesting. Supposedly, if he omitted homosexuality from his criticism, there would be no uproar. It's OK to criticize whoever the fuck you want to criticize -as long as it's not a race, and not a sexual orientation. Maybe I missed the liberal media list of taboos. It's OK to hate on prostitutes. It's OK to hate on people who like to bang animals. But but but.. it's extremely not OK to disapprove of gay people!
Obviously, I disagree with Phil. I think it's totally cool for consenting adults to fuck whoever they want to fuck in whatever hole they want to use. It's easy for me to say - I am not a Christian. However, in America, the vast majority of people who disagree with Phil are Chr

Okay, no, on a more serious note: I've just had to re-draw the last two days' worth of frames and in-betweens for Louis because I realized I'd been drawing him "wrong".
Throughout Louis's character progress he's undergone several changes, most based on my own personal decisions, but many were also due to feedback from you guys here on DA, and I realise now that the "Louis is too skinny I don't like it" comments got to me more than they should have.
What these people don't realize is that Louis is ridiculously tall and skinny on purpose: he's a cartoon. He's not meant to be realistic, he's meant to be an exaggeration of the flamboyant gay stereotype, the skinny French stereotype, and his design reflects his wiles and cunning when it comes to out-witting his opponents. It's a tough topic and one that most of us like to shy away from rather than embrace, but the honest truth is that the shots of people that you get - the best kind - are the ones that are candid, journalistic or spontaneous. That usually means asking permission afterwards, or not asking permission at all - which can appear quite odd, to some. One of my biggest concerns and anxieties is having my camera out in public. I recently went to a beach, of all places, and was shooting the coastline when a horrible feeling crept over me and I realised that there were lots of people around and that I was invading, a little bit, on their privacy. These guidelines are useful for shooting on the street, at public gatherings and events and at more formal occasions such as weddings.
If the person is going to be the main subject of your photo - then it's kind to ask permission, get perm

Have an Adoptable Fund ready
Having some extra cash in your paypal or extra points in your dA helps you a lot in case you wish to purchase a limited hold-time adoptable. To avoid scamming, many adoptables artists ask for payment within a certain time frame (one or two days generally) and having a fund helps you when you see an adoptable you really want. Sometimes artists will let you put an adoptable on hold, but it's still better to ask first if the 'hold' option is available or not before claiming.
Find an Adoptable that you really like
Adoptables often come in sheets or maybe you follow a lot of adoptables artists and no one can deny that there's a lot of choice around dA. Since you finances are not unlimited, you might find yourself in the tight spot of choosing an adoptable over another. The point here is, you need to *choose*. Because asking both and then making one
My Digital Art Workstation PC Starter GuideHey everyone! Sorry for the long-time-no-show-anything. I got a real studio job back in like January and it's been eating up pretty much all of my time.My Digital Art Workstation PC Starter Guide1 month ago in Personal More Like This
However, over on my Tumblr today I wrote a quick (but long) article about the kinds of parts you should choose to build a full workstation computer to do digital art and general productivity on! All on a budget of about $450 to $600 for just the computer system itself.
Go check it out if you're thinking about building one soon! I know you can build a system for cheaper than this, but the idea was not to pick parts that were bottom-of-the-barrel. The idea was to pick quality, upper-level parts that will allow you to start doing work right away with plenty of room to upgrade to add even more performance over time (more memory, an SSD, a video card, etc.)
Hope it helps at least one of you out there!
