"To raise money for charity, we're making an Artbook in which artists will be given the chance to draw a page (or double page) each. All profits raised will go directly to the RedKite, a foundation that works closely with children living with cancer, helping families financially in these tough times."
Ethereal-artbook is currently holding a contest where winning entries will be published in the artbook and will receive a free copy!
There will be four winners, each winner judged separately from the four categories available; green, blue, yellow and red

WISDOM NUMBER THREE!!! Work smart and leave your comfort zone. This part is my qualifier for art school, tutorials, and educational resources in general, because they can be good, but only if you make them good. Once you've gotten in to the habit of drawing consistently, it's important to start being mindful of what you're drawing, how you're drawing it, and why you're drawing it. A key ingredient of success is hard work, but if that work isn't purposeful it might not move you
Favorite Feature New Year Special!I would like to give out a big thanks to all of you reading this, watching me and supporting me in my work. I always try to write down goals for the new year, what I would like to accomplish, and I thought I could share some of them with you, since a lot of them is about my art.

It is simple: draw my Original Character Altair! If you think dragons are awesome go with her God Form, if you feel more comfortable drawing humans, she also has a human form! She has an animal and anthro form so you can really draw whatever you want! You can draw her alone or together with her mate Terazed!
All forms of art are accepted: drawings, crafts, photomanipulation, 3d, animation, pixel art, literature, plushes, sculptures, anything!

Altair: God Form
This is how Altair looks when she is in her Dragon form. this is also her main reference sheet because it contains more text and story informations.

Here is the reference for her humanoid and animal forms. I suck at human anatomy and clothes, so in this form she
5 Tips on Creating Dynamic Character1. Start with a concept. This is how most of my characters start, and they usually begin with two or three word descriptors. "Demon stallion" or "spoiled dragon prince" or "psychic dolphin". Characters as this stage are more anima than anything; they are forces at play in the primordial soup of story. When an idea is this new, I try not to focus on it too much. Ideas need time to germinate, and I've found myself disappointed in times past when the potential of the character was so much more exciting than the concrete reality of what they became. Since during this time I'm developing plot and main conflict, I try to move characters around and see who I gravitate towards. This helps story and character grow organically. It's during this time that I try and determine what the character struggles with, the yin and yang of their internal difficulty. For example, I was recently asked to come up with a character for an urban fantasy roleplay, with no real details about th5 Tips on Creating Dynamic Character2 years ago in Personal More Like This

Let's get started...
So, to make this unravel easily in a sensible way, I am going to approach these tips as if one was just starting here on dA. The timeline will be from opening a new account. Even if this isn't your case, look at it like we are talking about this in a Fresh Start kind of way. Some of the earlier steps may be super obvious to you guys, but bear with me!

No, I'm not being sarcastic! Haha. I don't just mean this in the obvious sense of "have a gallery" but fill it. Just remember that everything you post to your gallery represents you. Anything you post can be subjected to comments, critiques, and the occasional troll. Just have more than 5 pieces in your gallery, at least.

1. They don't have flaws. Flaws are the first thing that should be explored in character, at least after the first flashes of inspiration have passed and you start moving into more concrete turf. People say Mary Sues are defined by lack of flaws; the flip side insists that giving your character "issues" won't make a character any less of a Mary Sue. Now, my definition of a Mary Sue doesn't involve flaws or the lack thereof; a Mary Sue, to me, is defined by the disproportionate amount of attention given to a Sue by the plot and the priorities of other characters. So, yes, it possible for a Mary Sue to have legit flaws and still be a Mary Sue. However, the difference between "issues" and a character flaw is what role they play in the character's deve

[MacType] New font smoother for windowsHeya folks,[MacType] New font smoother for windows2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I don't know about you, but I was always sick of the default windows font rendering, that's why I used GDI++ with Windows XP and GDIpp with Win7, until a few months ago GDIpp worked great, but then there where a lot of compatibility issues (Google Chrome/Firefox).
Now I found this http://www.mediafire.com/?8cnc6v7z7w4e647 on a chinese board http://bbs.themex.net/forumdisplay.php?f=88 (yeah yeah yeah, at least with google translate I could read something )
Works awesome and you can switch language, still a pretty shitty translation, but great tools to create configs and it runs as a service.
Check it out

The 'Method'I'm often asked if I use a projector, a printed canvas or grid for my paintings. The 'Method'10 months ago in Personal More Like This
To be blunt, the answer is simple 'no'.
I do use several vertical & horizontal lines as the guide to put the object in the right position
only when the canvas is big(over 1m high).
The reason I don't use those technical methods is simple;
I'm an old-fashioned man!
I consider myself more of an old craftsman than an artist in modern-day concept.
For me, practicing and perfecting my craft is as important as creating a good piece of art.
Some people say the process doesn't matter as long as you have a good outcome, but I don't believe that.
I don't feel completely happy with the outcome even though it looks near-perfect if I don't feel that my hard work is involved.
I may work much faster and easier if I use a projector or a printed canvas,
but I'd rather train myself harder and harder to be a more skilled and versatile painter.
After all, you won't need to spend that much money on buying a projector and print
Street Photography for Beginners: The Golden RuleStreet photography seems to be gaining popularity with each passing day. The difference is substantial from when I started just two years ago. Not only is street photography becoming more popular, but street photography is also becoming a lot more of an accepted mainstream form of photography, now being included in International Photography Festivals, gallery exhibits. As such, many more photographers are attempting to try their hand at it.Street Photography for Beginners: The Golden Rule2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Often though, as with many forms of photography, begininng street photographer become frustrated because their images just don't have the "pop" that they see in other street photographers work. Beginner street photographers can find this frustrating because they just don't understand why their images aren't working, it is just photographs of random people on the street right?
Unfortunately, this is one of the greatest misconceptions about street photography. There is so much more to a well exec

OK so here with go with our 'Draw-A-Long' feature, today we will look at what materials I will use create the drawing. I have to underline that these are the tools that I will use. You may be able to get better results with different more or less pencils or a different grade paper – but these are what I will be using
Some of the materials are standard tools that should be in everyone's pencil case – others are not so – in particular the finer pencil eraser. I cannot recommend these enough, I tend to erase as much as I draw, not because of mistakes, but as a way of obtaining textures and blends – so please if you want to follow this series please try and hunt down one of these. The only other piece that may be unusual to you is the Tortillion – these are tightly rolled sticks of paper and are again an essential item to me – mine do not usually look this clean and having one side which is blackened with graphite is e

The Dining Philosophers - a ProblemEpicurus muttered, "None of this affects me at all," excused himself, and slipped out the back door practically unnoticed. That left the table unbalanced. On one side were the ancient worlders: Plato and Aristotle, heads together in deep discussion, and Socrates, who appeared to be gently questioning Miletus while Sextus Empiricus studiously withheld judgement on the proceedings. The opposite end of the table was mostly held by the enlightenment gang, with Lao-Tze as the sole outlier, holding down the farthest end of the table as he watched the proceedings, imperturbably. Voltaire had given up on his hopes of getting Lao-Tze to appreciate his witticisms, and shifted his focus to Rousseau, who was trying to hide behind the equally imperturbable bulk of David Hume. Neitzsche was berating Hume, loudly, and making wickedly poetic assertions that made Spinoza occasionally put his head down and "facepalm" though he quickly converted the gesture to what appeared to be a thoughtful forehead-rubThe Dining Philosophers - a Problem1 year ago in Personal More Like This
