Page 08 Author's Notes: The last page of the prologue has arrive, and boy is it a doozy. The lighting changes, much in the way auroras do, as the magic of statue/angel man gets going. Our hooded friend is back to narrating, and seems to ... know Rory. Cornered, the angel is able to complete his task, which involves a transformation that ultimately leaves Rory as a statue. And thus, Rory has entered the Infinite Spiral. Not to mention, hooded man reveals his face. Hmm ...

Cue the quote for the next page/Chapter One opener: "Silence denote and sanctity enforce thee-- Passenger of Infinity"--Emily Dickinson.

World Notes/Mythology: In Angel lore, the angel Lailah touches souls just under the nose before they are born, erasing their memories of life before birth and leaving the philtrum (indentation below the nose). Although Rory is not going to lose her memories of home (didn't want to alarm anyone), the kind of metamorphosis or birth metaphor is here.

Infinite Spiral: Prologue: Aurora:
Rory (Aurora) Perkins is just a normal girl spending the waning days of summer with her grandparents in the country. When she sets out to catch fireflies one evening, little does she know her curiosity will cause her to leave her own world behind forever, journeying into the Infinite Spiral of realities.

Page 05 Author's Notes: Rory is now cold and wet, and this lighthouse is creepy (not to mention bigger on the inside). To make matters worse, she's hearing voices (and still being watched). Hmm ... that statue looks familiar too ... This may be my favorite page so far.

Page 06 Author's Notes: Rory has the sinking suspicion she is not alone, and accosts the statue thinking it is alive. But silly Rory should know from "Blink" never to trust statues when you aren't looking at them ... (Surely she watched Doctor Who in her home universe, right? It is like ours.) Yes, I'm deliberately calling out the Weeping Angels connection here. I actually had this part of the prologue come up in a dream of mine long before I ever watched any DW. This has eerie connections to those baddies. I've used this "awakening" sequence to attempt to remove some of that and what happens in the next two pages ought to seal it off (though there are still some weird connections--what is with my brain?). Seriously, too good and vivid a dream sequence to waste--the angel/statue in the dream was even bald!

The real question you all should be asking is, who is that guy who enchanted the statue?

World and Story Notes: "Dawn has fallen" is deliberate playing with words, in case that sounds odd to anyone. The idea of being singular in time is significant and the term "Singularity" will surface (anyone who likes the idea of multiverses ought to have some thoughts here). The Spiral is indeed a reference to what the title means.

I'm still alive guys
this was one of my final works for my comic class
the thing is that we had to create a comic and do the same plot in three different genres,in my case I chose adventure, terror and fantasy.

A DD? thank you!!

Page 14 Author's Notes: OMG, new page. I bet you thought I'd quit. If you've been following my journals, you know I have had massive computer issues, got a new job, and relocated in the past couple few months. Now I am settling in and can get back to the Spiral on the weekends.

So, James thinks Christian is pranking him, but quickly realizes his friend is not okay. James anxiety and desire to get Christian to wake up seems to have awakened James's latent Wickness (abilities). Basically, he has succeeded in making a scene in the library. Oops. Everyone notices except one patron, too busy to lift his head from the card he's copying from.

Infinite Spiral: Chapter One: Awakening
James Hartwell and Christian Rafferty aren't your average tweens and teens. The two are considered Wicked Children, which means they are a mixture of human and unknown, feared "magical" beings, that have since seemed to disappear. What is in their past? What is in their future? And how does Rory connect to them? Who was that white haired youth? What's next?

This page just ... had a ton of changes. Thanks Gavin and Alexis.

Page 15 Author's Notes: Whatever James did, it made Christian wake up, and James is a bit dazed trying to figure out what just happened. However, being a worrywort, the need to run now gets the better of him. Meanwhile, Alexis refuses to listen to Gavin. Gavin would rather, for some reason, ignore the ruckus upstairs that other library patrons are interested in him (something on that card is important? Maybe he's just not impressed? Maybe something else?). At any rate, he starts wielding some magic that no one particularly notices (he's got skills).

Also, enter Christian's beloved: the yo-yo. His magic gets a lot more stable when he uses it.

There are some other things worth noticing here, but I leave that to you. ;)

Page 11 Author's Notes: Sorry for the wait. My computer died smack in the middle of this page and combined with a crunch at work, I was put a week behind. James and Christian continue their search for the book, and as it turns out, Christian has been keeping them invisible to library patrons ... but as it turns out, his attention span isn't very good.

Also, when I first posted I thought, why are the colors so bright? It turns out I forgot to turn my color filter back on during coloring. Oops. That is corrected now!

I’m almost sorry for spamming your inboxes these days, folks. Please bear with me, university will soon deprive me of lots of free time again soon and I’d like to use my creative energy until then.

So here’s the coloured version of Vortigern’s Castle – an episode from Arthurian legend which of course exists in several different versions and I made my own one. I’d really like to do MUCH more illustrations and comic pages on my very own version of Arthurian stuff (and yep, it would all be set in 6th century Wales and have unpronouncable Welsh names). Someday. Between too many other projects.

Anyway, have Vortigern admiring little Merlin’s prophetic skills. Yes, I went with the version that the child who was supposed to be sacrificed but instead made this bloody prophecy of doom and interpreted the fight of the dragons and stuff, you know the rest in whichever version is Merlin. And yes, Merlin is a christian. If you say otherwise, you’re obviously also led astray by utterly stupid er I mean funny movies like Excalibur. Blah.

Oh and those ruins in the background are actually inspired by the Hammershus ruins on Bornholm. Because 5th or 6th century Britain is SO close to 12th century Scandinavia, you know. Erm. Means I just like the Hammershus. I should paint it more often.

Watercolour. The colours turned out less dramatic than I wanted because I lost patience after spending about three hours on the deep red background wash and the stones and my computer’s screen turns it all rosy for me, but wayne. I hope the colours turned out half way alright on your screens.

Page 12 Author's Notes: Back on track. Christian, having blew James and his invisibilty, is trying to charm the strange while he reweaves the spell. She is rightfully confused and a bit terrified. However, Christian ... being Christian, doesn't get it and James is mortified.
