OC Showdown Contest CLOSED: Entries/RulesEDIT: Over 100 entries, awesome guys! I am sorry to say I will be cutting it off at Round 12 for my sanity, fairness, and to even out the numbers. I am not offering a plush for second place for now; if I finish commissions and trades in a timely manner I will offer a beanie for it but if anyone wants to offer for a second place prize, then it's very much appreciated! I have also made it fair for everyone in the finals as there have been large amounts of complaints; the 2 from each round that win will be the finalists, and a team consisting of me, SukiR , equinepalette, and Winter-Hooves will judge the finals to choose the winners! This way it doesn't become a popularity contest, and will actually be about design!OC Showdown Contest CLOSED: Entries/Rules7 months ago in Personal More Like This
Okay so WELCOME to the first ever OC Showdown contest!
I planned this to be my final contest for the next 2 years, so let's make it big!
Now, this is bit of a long read, but once you get through everything you'll see it's not hard to

ENTRIES ARE CLOSED FOR THIS EVENT!
Thank you all for showing interest! I will have the list up by midnight, or by tomorrow!
Thanks :iconneko-kun67: for the name.
So I came up with this idea today during class. it's not a contest. There are no prizes. it's merely just for fun! Originally I was gonna do it with just me and my close friends, but i wanted to extend this project to everyone on DA who would like to join in!
So what is Jade's Jingle Jamboree?
People who decide to join in this will have to draw their OC interacting with something Christmas, winter, holiday, December, whatever related. However, You do not know what holiday related item you are getting. It'll be randomized.
How will you randomize it?
I will go to a online random generator and list the names of the participants. I will also create a separate lis

I wanted to celebrate my 1000th watcher with this, but it seems that I am 200 watcher late
Aaaaand I wanted to wait til the 5th member of the group was revealed, buuuut after much though I am going to let her join the next competition (unless someone decides to draw her)
Here's the mission. Pick any of the main characters from my comic (Lene, Jade, Dan, Cynthia, Clarice who hasn't shown her face yet) And draw them interacting with your OC!
Can I use someone else's OC?
No, it has to be Your own. Unless it's a very popular fan made OC like fufflepuff, Button Mash etc...
Oh but I don't have an OC
Oh that's fine, you can draw one of the characters in the comic interacting with a show/background pony from MLP.
I know what you are going to say. Well... THERE'S MORE! Don't wanna draw them with a show po

OKAY – So what's the deal, what do we want?
The image attached are the proportions we want, it's not quite CHIBBI proportions – as an example, look up the artwork for "Super puzzle Fighter" – many Street Fighter enthusiasts will know where we are going with this. Okay, so those are the proportions we want – what about the rest?
Imagine the most twisted zombie you can think of and that's what we want, but in a semi-cute fashion. Recently, in the latest episode i

It's Finally Finished! The Dragon Masquerade!Some of you may have noticed that I've been particularly absent these last couple months or so. I haven't posted a lot of art here on Deviantart and Twokinds updates have been a bit... irregular. There is a reason for that. And that reason is this:It's Finally Finished! The Dragon Masquerade, the debut comic for San Diego Comic-Con on July 24th!
For almost the entirety of June, I was working around the clock on a new side project, trying desperately to get it done in time for the Comic-Con. And I did it! 32 pages of new, full-color comic art completed over a period of about 38 days, not counting the time it took to write, edit, and format for print. I made it just in time for the deadline, and I am proud to present to you all the first look at The Dragon Masquerade.
I will not lie, this project was one of the hardest things I have ever done. There were weeks when I would do nothing but wake up, work, and then go back to bed. But I feel like it

The real title should probably be something like that however that doesn't really fit well. XD This is LONG, I'm sorry, but it's a lot to cover and I want to cover it in a well rounded way and no short-change you guys. Before I get started, here is what I'll cover:
Job searching / Promotion / Community
Do you want to go to art school/college? Maybe you just want art as a hobby or income boost? Maybe you want to be a full time freelancer or studio worker? Do you know?
Making art your living or making it a portion of your income is a serious undertaking and involves a lot more than I think the majority of people realize. I'm not here to scare anyone or crush dreams. However I feel that with so many young artists on dA aspiring to become a professional (or even older ones starting to enjoy art now), you all DESERVE to know what you are getting into.
Anyway, I've been having these sorts o

OK so here with go with our 'Draw-A-Long' feature, today we will look at what materials I will use create the drawing. I have to underline that these are the tools that I will use. You may be able to get better results with different more or less pencils or a different grade paper – but these are what I will be using
Some of the materials are standard tools that should be in everyone's pencil case – others are not so – in particular the finer pencil eraser. I cannot recommend these enough, I tend to erase as much as I draw, not because of mistakes, but as a way of obtaining textures and blends – so please if you want to follow this series please try and hunt down one of these. The only other piece that may be unusual to you is the Tortillion – these are tightly rolled sticks of paper and are again an essential item to me – mine do not usually look this clean and having one side which is blackened with graphite is e

Four hundred people.
I don't really know what to say anymore, I was celebrating 300 watchers not long ago and we're already at 400 now.....that kinda blows my weird, shifted mind :l
I didnt think I was gonna come this far as I joined dA a few months ago, but well, here we are!
And if you ask me, yeah, this definitely tickles my fancy!
I once again have no words to describe how happy and grateful I am. I know everyone always says that, but I really mean it.
I'll now leave a blank space so you'll have to pause for a second, during which you can imagine me melting of happiness and genuine confusion.
So yeah, now that Rabbit is trying to shape my pudding-reduced body into the pineapple it was before, I have time to thing what I could do to celebrate...
..And of course! I'm still gonna hold a raffle, like I usually do :3
So lets take care of it right away, shall we? *insert unnecessarily huge title below:*

My favourite poem ever :-
Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high;
Where knowledge is free;
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments by narrow domestic walls;
Where words come out from the depth of truth;
Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection;
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way into the dreary desert sand of dead habit;
Where the mind is led forward by thee into ever-widening thought and action --
Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake.

As most of the world is aware, for some countries, Halloween is literally right around the corner. For a few years, I've been thinking that I wanted to start a monthly news article that features deviants who haven't really gotten a lot of attention, and I thought, "Why not now?"
I know that I've probably missed some AMAZING pieces out there, but I'm hoping that you can find some really....delicious and depraved deviations in this article! Please note: I know that some of these deviants have quite a few pageviews, but take a look at how long they've been around deviantART. I based on how "unseen" they are by how long they've been here and how many pageviews they have.
I feel like I didn't give enough love to enough deviants who need it, so as it's even

For the third article, I asked Null-Entity, kirilee, and Tasastock all about how to play a character. Let's see what wisdom they have for us!
How do I get into character?
:iconNull-Entity: Null-Entity says:
It depends on the shot/character (I have not done many characters yet) but for my "Gent's Last Act" set I imagined an entire scenario with scenes, and simply played it out from start to finish in-front of the camera.
As for shots with Tasastock, it was a matter of thinking of the theme and playing along with it, it helped a lot to play off her!.

Artists' Toolbox: The 50mm LensAstrikos for projecteducateArtists' Toolbox: The 50mm Lens5 months ago in Deviant Events More Like This
The 50mm lens is a great, great lens.
It's versatile, fast and bright, and mimics the view of the human eye (on a full frame. If shot with an APC-S size sensor, it ends up being more like a 80mm). It's also light and easy to carry around. Not only that, but the f/1.8 variety is usually very cheap. The one I use was priced at around $100. Of course, there's the extremely nice f/1.4 variety, but that costs a lot more. If you need a sharp prime lens on a budget, the 50mm f/1.8 is a great deal.
Prime lenses: Prime lenses do not have a zoom range. They're often sharper than their zoom lens counterparts because they lack the extra moving glass elements that the zoom need. This allows them to capture clearer images and are usually sharper. Since prime lenses are simpler, they usually can open up pretty wide, making them faster and more useful in low light situations.
