Tolkien Illustrator’s First Aid Kit: Elves
Tolkien’s texts are notable for their abundance of characters, many of them mentioned perhaps only once, other playing very important parts in the stories. However, it is often very difficult to find any description of how those characters look, and this is what we, artists and illustrators, are usually most concerned with.
So here it is – Tolkien Illustrator’s First Aid Kit – a list of all those characters, whose physical appearance is mentioned in the texts, including The Silmarillion and The History of the Middle-earth.
To start with, the Elves. As we know, during the march from Cuiviënén t

Middle-earth in picturesMiddle-earth is a world created by J.R.R.Tolkien, one of the most complex creations and foundations of classic fantasy. Many artists are inspired by this amazing world, and there are not many events in its history that escaped a painter's brush... I bring you a short (yes, I call this short ) summary of the events, in a more or less chronological order:Middle-earth in pictures5 years ago in Art Features More Like This

Most denizens of the West think of New Zealand as a little known outpost of civilization somewhere beyond Australia at the ends of the Earth.
Could any land be any farther from the European motherland, birthplace of the Renaissance that is the Genesis-point of the visual arts narrative we continue expanding and evolving today? And yet this remote country of islands in the Pacific has suddenly become a cinematic storytelling powerhouse, a film-friendly factory for the creation of some of the most important touchstone mass entertainment experiences to influence our popular culture in recent years.
Tolkien Contest WinnersTime has come to announce the winners. You were surprisingly consistent in voting this time - for the 45 votes, most of you focused on two works that now, obviously, are featured as the first and second places each. One Reason....... why I try not to comment about people's weight. One Reason...3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I used to attend a particular conference on an annual basis, and so I got to (casually) know the other "regulars" who also used to be there. Every year, more or less, I'd see the same group of people at the speakers' dinner, and we could catch up on the usual "what are you up to these days?" kind of stuff. One of the guys I used to see fairly often was a tall heavy-set fellow (some might call him "fat" or "obese") he'd always been tall, bearded, and big, to me. But one year, he showed up and he had lost a lot of weight. It took me a second to recognize him, and I said, "Hey, Rich! You look great! You've lost a lot of weight!" and he looked at me and deadpanned, "Yeah, pancreatic cancer will do that."
Do I need to belabor the point? I will. First off, I set myself up for a massive head-fuck, by making assumptions about what was going on in someone else's life, and - even though I was being friendly about it - I was horribly wro

How To Survive As Freelancer In A Subscription Based (Virtual) Society
This one is a wake-up call, one to contemplate how we use social media and publishing strategies.
This article don´t refers to sociel media tools and widgets, but wants to explore the heart of how publishing has changed and how to use it.
Actually when Magazines began with subscription models back, somewhere in the last century (please correct me if I´m wrong), some television stations decided to do the same and ultimately I believe that is the reason why we have subscriber-based social media networks now, where every person can get subscribers.
This is a long story short.
Sure, there are differences between a magazine a television station and you.
But how big is the difference if the currency is attention time?
I think we live in
Arthur RackhamArthur Rackham was born on the 19th of September 1867 in London and died of cancer at the age of 71 in Limpsfield, Surrey. He's considered to be one of the most recognisable artists of the Golden Age of Illustration in Europe, along with John Bauer and Theodor Kittelsen.Arthur Rackham2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
He was born in a big family - it's enough to mention that he had 11 siblings, but surely plenty of you knows that it wasn't quite unusual in the XIX century and earlier. We know that in his youth, Rackham's health was rather poor - hence he travelled to Australia with his two aunts to improve his condition.
After he returned, he began studying at the Lambeth School of Art. In 1892 he started working as a r

This the first and possibly last (depending on how well it goes) tutorial on how I sculpt a piece from start to nearly finish (nearly finish, because I haven't finished this piece yet). In order to try and keep this small I've used thumbs to decrease the overall size of the tutorial.
So how does it all start? Well for me, due to a severe amount of impatience and complete ineptitude when it comes to illustration, I adopt the small kid in the candy store approach, I have a look around for things I think look awesome and when I find something good I sculpt it or take aspects from it and sculpt it. In this case it came in the form of some D&D artwork I found on google images whilst looking for something else.
I really like the ferocity of t

I'm SO glad that Sasori flash back has been drawn and colored SO GOOD (the characters looked so good and some background scenes looked like a true masterpiece) if we compare it with the non-flash back scenes in the same episode about Chiyo vs. Kankuro fight. I loved Sasori's workshop btw (although it looks so different from the one of the old shippuden episodes)
Ok, I have seen the episode subbed in 2 languages: in english and my native language. Both versions said just the opposite and the subs translations from the japanese audio looked so confusing and lame to me, so please I hope you understand why I'm still confused:

Hello again! It's been 3 months since our previous seasonal feature and it's time for a next one, the third one. As previously, I'm picking deviations which have below 300 favourites, but it's still really hard - I'd feature all of them if it didn't take so much space. If you liked some of the works here especially, don't hesitate to suggest it for a Daily Deviation, here you may find all the tips how to do it.

Setting (A very quick introduction to the land and story) :
My story takes place in the country of Dendroa, the land of Storms (part of the world of Derkomai I created) during the period when Aelys was part of the Keeshir Guard, from the moment she was found after the wreckage to the one when she will have to flee to Drechenval, scapegoated with the murder of the king.
Dendroa is a monarchy with harsh laws. Slavery is forbidden but every citizen has to contribute to the well being of the country, both by taxes and public works when requested (the nature of the task is adapted to the capacities of every one).
The pantheon is composed of several deities, the main
Dealing With Rejection and Staying MotivatedWARNING:Dealing With Rejection and Staying Motivated3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Wall of text! Don't get crushed! The following is a rant triggered by I'm not even sure what. I hope it's halfway coherent, because I didn't proofread it. It took way longer to write than I thought...But here's some insight from this humble artist.
In this line of business, rejection is a normal thing. The illustration/cartooning industry is so competitive that, for many people, it's a struggle and a half just to get a foot in the door. Even for folks like me, who have kinda sorta almost made it but are barely getting by on our work, we're no strangers to a big fat "nope." A lot of times, no matter how good you may be, there will be someone better suited for a job. And you know what, back tracking for a second; Even if you AREN'T where you want to be skill-wise with your craft, that's nothing to be discouraged over.
A lot of people say that it's all about knowing someone, or being at the right place at the right time. I say (a

I loved so much this episode, the last one where we can see our dear Sasori and Deidara together
